Greenhouse farming is crucial in agriculture as it involves the planting of crops in a controlled environment which reduces the effects of pest and diseases that comes with farming in an open field

The water and air monitoring make it possible for certain crops such as tomatoes, lettuce, pepper, cucumber, spinach, and herbs to grow and thrive regardless of the external weather conditions.

One of the top agricultural trends for 2022 is the further explosion of the Internet of Things (IoT).

The use of technology in agriculture has created a vicious cycle leveraging inventions like drones, robots, and computer imaging devices that can gather information like soil moisture, chemical application, dam levels, and livestock health as well as monitor irrigation and weather.

These inventions have aided in making food available to consumers, helped in increasing sustainability and, saved time for farmers leading to efficiency in the agricultural space.

The Evolution going on in Africa as it pertains to businesses is something that could have only been thought of years ago, and it is truly inspiring.

Thanks to the Evolve initiative, a partnership between African Export Import Bank - Afreximbank and CNNIC, tech scale-ups in Africa, including Farmcrowdy, are now connected with investors and customers to boost intra-African trade opportunities and foster collaborations in Africa’s e-commerce sector.

As a business, being a part of this initiative to scale up at a time when we are collaborating more (internally within our business units and externally with partners), expanding into other Agro and Food value chains and also other African countries, we are unearthing more of our potentials, and we are truly excited about this.

This is a great time for African businesses as the rest of the world is becoming even more aware of us, and as a business, we are definitely seizing the day.

Gender and demographic (age) inclusiveness in Agriculture is an important aspect that must be encouraged. Sometime this year, our CEO Akindele Phillips participated in the Global South-South Cooperation Forum organized by the International Labour Organisations, alongside the Cooperazione Italiana Allo Sviluppo and International Training Centre.

He talked about how Farmcrowdy has promoted an inclusive environment in the Nigerian agricultural sector and how vital it is to have all hands, including the youths actively engaged in agriculture to solve the current food problems before the year 2050.

Popular foods like bread or noodles are products of the wheat plant. Nigerian wheat importation was estimated at $2.1 billion in 2020 and projected to be $2.5 billion in 2021.

In the first quarter of 2021, Nigeria experienced a 47% increase in wheat importation in the first quarter of 2021. This increase was attributed to the increase in the price of Nigeria's staple foods, the price of rice and garri.

With a capacity to mill at least 4.5 million tonnes of wheat, and yet only producing about 300,000 tonnes, the country is in obvious need of more wheat farmers to increase production, exportation and reduce importation.

After successfully kickstarting our mission of realizing food security in Nigeria, we have taken a step further into replicating our business model in Rwanda.

As a result of the inabilities of farmers to access timely farm inputs and cash flow, Farmcrowdy Rwanda strives to solve these agricultural challenges for processors, farmers, and distributors by providing cash flow to financing and increasing access to required inputs.

World food security helps to enhance food availability and subsequently the production of food. Food security is a socio-economic indicator of the quality of life in a country.

In solving food insecurity issues, the world would need to be re-aligned to methods that reduce food wastage and focus on improved infrastructural programs that allow for access to sufficient, safe, affordable, and nutritious food.

Empowering Farmers Together!

Founded in 2016, #Farmcrowdy is #Nigeria's 1st #Digital Agriculture Platform that empowers rural farmers by providing them with improved seeds, farm inputs, training on modern farming techniques and provides a market for the sale of their farm produce. This gives the farmers the capacity to farm more acres and by extension leads to increased food production and security in Africa while promoting youth participation in #Agriculture.
