I’m beyond grateful for my puppy. It’s been getting pretty dangerous where I live (few dead bodies found in the area and now everyone is throwing rumors around about a serial killer) so everyone is on edge and I don’t like walking alone at night even if I am a strong/pretty athletic dude, so I got a dog to eventually train as a protection dog. (Mind you, my dog is beyond well socialized and well trained with too many commands I’ve lost count and he’s nine months old.) Anyway, we were leaving the dog park because it was getting dark and it’s a long walk home so it was black out. We were like twenty feet from our drive way and had passed so many people on our walk home, my boy Sabbath usually ignores other foot traffic because he doesn’t mind people. Well, we’re twenty feet away and I see a man so as I get closer (ten feet away now) he stops dead in his tracks and I’m confused. He gave me the ick. The vibes were no good and I thought he was waiting for me to walk by with my puppy because not everyone likes dogs but then I get five feet away and he says something I can’t hear because I’m partially deaf, then says something very obviously about my dog and then Sabbath goes HAM! He never aggressive barks at anyone but he put himself between me and the guy and tore his head off with barking. I didn’t let him get too much closer and warned him “sorry he’s on alert” and as I walk away he talks about how good of a guard dog he is.. it wasn’t a very nice exchange and it made my gut turn. My dog didn’t want to keep going. My boy has my back and is being trained to do so. I’m so damn glad I decided to go with my shepherd instead of a different dog. Pic for his cuteness
