In itself, rats should be the least animal that can endanger your pet's life but the havoc these rodents can cause is so enormous.

Cats and dogs can become infected with the protozoan organism Toxoplasma by eating rodents that have the Toxoplasmosis cysts developing in their muscles. In dogs, Toxoplasma may make the dog quite ill and can cause various symptoms ranging from diarrhoea, pneumonia, liver disease, or diseases of the nervous system.

Rats can also transmit diseases to your dogs through their urine.

Rats' urine carries bacteria that can cause leptospirosis (a deadly disease in dogs).

To prevent disease transmission from rats to your dogs:

🐾 Control the rats in your house or environment.

🐾 If you use rat poison, make sure your dogs do not eat the poison or the rat that died from the poison.

🐾 Do not feed your dogs at night. Food will attract rats to your dogs.
Clean up any remnant as it will attract rats to your dogs.

🐾 Do not place dustbins near your dog's cages/kennels.

🐾 Have a good hygienic practice.
Disinfect your dog's kennels, cages, bowls, etc regularly.

🐾 Vaccinate your dogs when due, this will prevent or limit the severity of any infection.

The reason for this is because the ear structures used for balance aren’t fully developed in puppies. This doesn't mean that all dogs will outgrow travel sickness, though many will.

The best way to prevent dog travel sickness is to make the car ride as comfortable as possible for your dog. Many people prefer to use travel carriers for safety -- and they do have the added benefit of containing vomit if your dog become ill.

Another thing that may help your dog’s motion sickness is to lower your car windows a couple of inches while the car is moving.
