Part two about the Giardia!

There has been Giardia diagnosed in the DharmaDog Pack!

Please read this post and the next one on what to do.

Treating with panacur, which is a dewormer that also gets the Giardia parasite, for five days.

ALWAYS clean bowls, including water bowl daily with hot water.

Wash blankets regular in hot wash

And clean your house with hot water and soap. I know a lot of people use sprays more often then a good old bucket of hot water, but especially with pets you wanna daily use hot water and soap as that is proven to still be the best way to kills germs. I like to use my sprays for quick cleaning after use or removing stains.

Also if you have cats, please use panacur treatment and clean the litters.

If your dog is infected, avoid parks and other dogs untill treatment is over.
Try and take a water bottle with you to flush away the diarrhea.

And ALWAYS pick up after your dog. Infections like these are contagious before the symptoms start, meaning they can infect others weeks before they are sick.

The Monday pack was peaceful and quiet just like the lake and the woods. Hardly any people and the only noise was that of the birds and the airplanes ☺️

Trust the process! Patience is a virtue and I'm so proud of Sammy. He is doing better with every visit and we even made it till the corner of the street while a week ago I couldn't even show the leash without him walking away from me. Trust needs to be earned and a lot of love to give in between 🥰 because after this we cuddled of course🐾

Next level trust building with Pepper! Walking outside and she is doing really good. She walks with confident and knows where she wants to go. We still have some work to do before she can join our pack adventures but I have great confidence in her! Always trust the process!

Rain is so much fun! The mud, the water but also all the smells that hit the ground with the rain are super fun! Even when we hit trails that we walked before, now smell different and makes the dogs so excited 🤗 Extra fun was that its Panpan his b-day who turned 10 years old! Double digits baby and today was his treat with some lovely dog treats from Japan! It was an amazing rainy day! Happy b-day again Panpan

OVERVERHITTING DOOR EEN DIKKE VACHT Er bestaat veel onwetendheid over hyperthermie, of oververhitting bij dieren. In veel gevallen worden vachten afgeschoren, uitgedund of van de onderwol ontdaan.Ik wil graag een lans breken voor het behoud van een intacte vacht...Ik hoop dat dit onderbouwende verhaal duidelijk is voor professionele vachtverzorgers èn voor eigenaren... Het lichaam van de hond moet een constante temperatuur houden, 38 tot 39 graden, afhankelijk van de grootte van het dier. De dekharen, de onderwol, de huid en de onderhuid (met vetcellen) vormen samen de isolerende factor. In elk seizoen moet de lichaamstemperatuur constant blijven. Dat geldt dus zowel voor buiten wandelen bij --15 als voor de kachel met +25 graden Celsius. En in de zomer; liggend in de zon of op een tochtend hoekje op het terras, binnenin het hondenlijf blijft het steeds 38 tot 39. De vacht is 'slechts' een onderdeel van de isolatie, maar wel een heel belangrijk deel. Denk eens aan je thermoskan, die bij het schaatsen de chocolademelk warm houdt en 's zomers de limonade koel. Zou je die dranken in een gewone, enkelwandige fles doen dan koelde je chocolademelk af en werd de limonade warm. De dikte van de wand, en dan vooral de isolerende luchtlaag ertussen, is dus duidelijk van belang. Die luchtlaag is in ruime mate aanwezig tussen de haren, en dan met name in de onderwol in de vacht. Bovendien werkt de vacht als een parasol, zodat de zonnestraling niet direct de zongevoelige huid bereiken kan. Zonverbranding door UV-B straling, en DNA-schade door UV-B straling wordt door een intacte, gepigmenteerde vacht tegengegaan. (Zeer kortharige en wit/lichtgetinte dieren zijn dus extra gevoelig). Vergelijk de werking van de thermoskan maar weer eens als deze in de badtas tussen de handdoeken zit of juist pal in de zon staat... BONTJAS...? Helaas wordt de vacht van huisdieren ten onrechte als een extra bontjas gezien, maar die vergelijking gaat niet op. Natuurlijk, als wij in de zomer een bontj

Missie en visie

Mijn visie is dat honden, net als mensen een persoonlijkheid hebben die we zelfs met meer onderzoek zouden kunnen verdelen in archetypes. Dit betekent dat honden ook psychische problemen kunnen hebben en hierbij gespecialiseerde hulp nodig hebben. De psyche van de hond kunnen we zien als die van de psyche van de mens, maar met de bewustzijn en intelligentie van een vier jarig kind. Ik geloof dat honden net als mensen therapie, morele steun en ruimte nodig hebben om persoonlijk te groeien.

Door middel van educatie wil ik iedereen maar vooral (toekomstige) hondeneigenaren en kinderen, bewust maken van de intelligentie en de behoefte van honden. Tevens wil ik onderzoek stimuleren naar de hondenpsyche, intelligentie, sociale hiërarchie, gedrag en gezondheid.
