Muilkorf training is altijd goed!!

Apologies, bit of a rant.😑💥and this will be a bit graphic.
Yesterday I was watching a post implode with bullying and misinformation...the issue?
Someone decided to muzzle train their dog.
Would these commentators rather see a dog eat away at their own flesh?
Perhaps they don't want dogs to heal from injury quickly and with less infection?
Maybe they would rather see a beautifully trained dog die from incessantly eating rocks?
Would they rather be bit by a dog that doesn't wear a muzzle?

Way too much discrimination and misinformation about muzzles out there.
So to the "I would never be so cruel", "how could you"....and the "I hope he bites you" commentators on this persons post....a well fitted and CONDITIONED muzzle shows a responsible guardian/owner/handler, it means this is a well thought out decision taken by a truly responsible person.

They take their responsibility and their commitment to ensuring everyone's health and safety seriously.....because if they didn't it really can be life or death for some.

Muzzles are used by the MOST responsible people.

𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗳 𝗔𝗺𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗺 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲
Na zoveel mooie momenten met alle lieve honden 🐾, is het tijd voor een nieuwe uitdaging. Ik ruil mijn wandelschoenen in en samen met mijn man begin ik aan een nieuwe onderneming in de horecabranche De Tafelheer Bonaire. ️Maar wees gerust, mijn hart blijft bij de honden. (Online) trainingen en vrijwilligerswerk in het asiel staan al op de planning. Dank jullie voor alle mooie jaren! 💜 Ik mis mijn honden nu al 😊

Over excited, "hyper" dogs.
No amount of exercise seems to be enough for these dogs. ‼️
You just can not "tire" these dogs out without increasing amounts of exercise and even then it is often not enough.
So what do you actually do to help stop this cycle❓
What if I told you the secret to TRULY help most of these dogs is gradually decreasing exercise while increasing enrichment.
Too good to be true ❓.. or are we tapping into what these dogs actually need to lower that extreme energy.

Where on earth do you start this?
If you haven't tried enrichment using their nose and really don't know where to start...the video in the comments have instructions which are really easy to follow and implement today.

OH BOY❗
This is one of those issues that can be really frustrating for us and our dogs.🤦
Sometimes we don't help this because we can inadvertently INCREASE excitement when we want to lessen it.
"Is that Mum home....is it ?"
"Who's that, Who's that Max ?"
These are common phrases which can become CUES for the very behaviour we don't want.
There is a video in the comments with 3 steps you can take (and start today).....to lower your dogs over excitement with visitors.

Instead of the barking and jumping...what would you like instead?

During the Guided Groupwalk Amsterdamse Bos, we will take a 60–75-minute walk in Amsterdamse Bos with a small group of dogs and their owners. The walk will be varied and through different terrain, and it will be off-leash.

Walk with me; don’t just walk me. Slow down and see the world as I do. I know you’ve got things to do, places to be. But out here, with the ground beneath our feet and the sky above us, there’s a whole world worth noticing.

The autumn chill is in the air today, crisp and full of new smells. It’s different from yesterday, and different from the day before. Every day is new. The leaves crunch under my paws, and I stop to breathe in the rich, earthy scent of them. To you, it might just be a pile of leaves, but to me, it’s a story—one I can’t help but dive into, nose first.

There’s a squirrel somewhere nearby, I can sense it, darting up a tree, its tiny heart beating fast. And the wind carries whispers of things far away: a family cooking dinner, the trace of a cat that passed by early this morning, and the faint perfume of flowers holding on to their last bit of summer. It’s all here, swirling around us if you just take the time to notice.

You tug on the leash, eager to move on, and I can tell you’re thinking about something far away from here. But when we walk, truly walk, you and I can be in this moment together. Feel the cool air brush against your skin, let it wake you up. Notice how the sun filters through the branches, casting shadows that dance on the pavement. Hear the crunch of the leaves beneath our steps, like a secret rhythm just for us.

To you, it might be just another walk, a daily routine to tick off the list. But for me, every step is an adventure. Each scent is a clue, each sound a piece of a puzzle. When you walk with me, really walk with me, you’ll see it too. The world is bigger than what we’re rushing toward. It’s right here, in the small moments, in the quiet spaces between your thoughts.

So, slow down. Breathe. Let the chill fill your lungs and the colours fill your eyes. Walk with me, don’t just walk me. See the world as I do, if only for a little while. It’s all waiting for you, just beneath the surface.

WHAT THE F?

Recognising stress responses in dogs.

Fight or flight are well known reactions to fear or stress, but these other “F” words are also important to understand and be aware of as they may not always be so obvious.

Freeze, Fawn, Fidget or Fool around are also responses to stress or fear and are also commonly seen in people.

Some dogs may have a genetic predisposition to one type of response while some react based on previous experience - what has worked for them before or what hasn’t. Some dogs have different reactions depending on the specific context.

Recognising and taking note of situations or circumstances where these responses are seen is important in understanding how our dogs are feeling.

When we recognise a fear or a stress response, we are able to intervene and advocate for our dogs.

Socialisation. Yes, there really is such a thing as "over socialised".
Play is NOT socialisation.❌
Play is a separate and important skill.✅....but it isn't socialisation.
What is socialisation ?..... Calmness and acceptance of the world.
What it isn't......over excited, scared, hyper, wary behaviour or PLAY.
I know that seems like a big statement to make for some people but society has some strange ideas of what socialisation is.

That doesn't mean dogs and puppies shouldn't play, it simply means one of the FIRST things they need to learn in life is not go to that place of extreme overarousal at the sight of a puppy. Puppies need to learn how to be accepting of dogs in general....then play can be added as a separate skill.

Calmness and acceptance IS socialisation.
Play is play.
Two completely separate things.

Dogs and puppies are a very small part of having a socialised dog. An important small part... but a very small part in a much bigger picture.
The word socialisation seems to be associated with play and that is a big issue with new puppy guardians/owners.

How you let other dogs meet yours and how your dog meets other dogs forms patterns of behaviour.
The more these dogs have over excited, over aroused and hyper behaviour around other dogs...........the more they understand this IS exactly how to meet dogs....and that is really problematic for many dogs.

True socialisation is acceptance and calmness in ALL the world has to offer.
Everything you encounter in everyday life...is exactly what you need to expose your dogs to.

Little and often
Positively and calmly......and you are well on your way to a well socialised puppy or dog.

They don't need to go to that hyper excited behaviour when other dogs are near.

They can be calm, assess the situation and choose to play and interact if they wish.....

That is true socialisation.

Bescherm je hond tegen fatale hitte:
- Een geparkeerde auto kan snel gevaarlijk heet worden, zelfs met de ramen op een kier.
- Laat je hond nooit alleen achter in de auto, ook niet voor korte tijd.

De zomer is in volle gang en met hoge temperaturen moeten we extra zorg dragen voor onze harige vrienden. Hier zijn de belangrijkste tips om je hond koel en veilig te houden tijdens warme dagen!

𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗷𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝗵𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗱!- Zorg altijd voor vers en koel water.
- Voeg ijsblokjes toe om het langer fris te houden.
- Neem een draagbare waterfles mee voor onderweg.

𝗠𝗮𝗮𝗸 𝗵𝗲𝘁 𝗷𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹:- Creëer schaduwrijke plekken in je tuin.
- Zorg voor goede luchtcirculatie binnen door ramen open te houden of ventilatoren te gebruiken.
- Sluit de gordijnen om je huis koel te houden.

𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗷𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗸𝗲𝗻 🦶
Bescherm de poten van je hond!
- Asfalt en beton kunnen extreem heet worden.
- Test de temperatuur met je hand voor je gaat wandelen.
- Kies voor gras of schaduwrijke paden.

𝗕𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗸 𝗙𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗲𝗸𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗶𝘁 🚶‍♂️
Blijf actief, maar met mate:
- Plan wandelingen in de vroege ochtend of late avond.
- Vermijd intensieve activiteiten tijdens de heetste uren van de dag.
- Zorg voor regelmatig pauzes in de schaduw.

𝗞𝗼𝗲𝗹 𝗷𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗳 𝗺𝗲𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 💦
Houd je hond fris:
- Maak de buik en liezen van je hond nat met een natte handdoek.
- Gebruik een koelmat of een natte handdoek waar je hond op kan liggen.
- Niet elke hond houdt hiervan, dus probeer wat voor jouw hond werkt.

Honden zijn gevoelig voor oververhitting, wat kan leiden tot ernstige gezondheidsproblemen en zelfs tot de dood kan leiden. Met name puppies, oude en zieke honden en honden met een korte snuit zijn extra gevoelig voor warm weer. 💜 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝘂𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗲 💜
Waar ik normaal elke vakantie wel ergens een paar leuke honden ontmoet, waren dit keer vooral schitterende leguanen en brutale meeuwen dagelijks in beeld.
Na 2 heerlijke weken vakantie met heel veel zon en een fantastisch strand, starten maandag 24 juni de groepswandelingen weer en vanaf 27 juni hervat ik ook de privétrainingen. Ik kijk er naar uit!
