And today, 29 Dec, at the shelter, this dog found the strength to jump a high wall and get into a fight with a pack of dogs on the other side. And looks like he lost. I bet he has been talking s**t to them from the other side of a fence for a long time.

The dog is full of puncture wounds, everywhere. The biggest problem seems to be the abdomen. Lots of blood. Seems that from a scan, they need to take action in the belly through surgery. But he is too weak for that now. They need to stabilize him first. On fluids now. Staying at the hospital for a few nights at least. And surgery hopefully on Wednesday. Don't know when he can come home.
It is likely at least 5000 Baht for surgery, I think 700 Baht per day to stay, and some medication and additional. Plus, again, travel costs with fuel. So this will be a 10K Baht again.

This was not in any budget (nor was the other one from a few days ago!!!). This is all coming from temporary sources as emergencies. What a way to end the year (and to start the new one too).

This was Sunday 28 Dec. Lek at a vet clinic again with a dog from the neighbors nearby. She was asked to accompany the dog, because most neighbors do not know about these kind of things. As far as I know they did pay for it themselves. This was also a pregnant dog with problems getting the puppies out. I do not have the latest status update on this one, because of the next case from our own shelter has come up already. Since I havent heard from this case yesterday I assume it went OK and they are back home again. Still, it means Lek and perhaps Oarn is busy with these things for a major part of the day.

This is a picture from just a few days ago. We had a dog highly pregnant. She had black and green discharge from the back. So Lek and Oarn took her to a vet hospital. She had surgery. All pups were dead already. She also got sterilized immediately.

Procedures plus some food to take back and fuel money were 9000 Baht, and we got a one-time discount, bringing it down to 7000 Baht. Still 200 Euro.

The mother dog is doing fine again. She was wagging her tail all through her ordeal. Except when walking outside in the unfamiliar place as you see in the picture.

Lek has been to the vet 2 more times already in the last few days. See next posts!

House of Tails shelter at 2 AM at night...
Working on making concrete to walk and lay down mostly dry and less rainwater staying on there. This is next to one of the kitchens in the shelter. There is a lot to do. Mostly involving simple construction materials like Concrete, zand, small stones, concrete blocks, pieces of metal to weld, fencing materials, and small stuff. But they all cost money, so any help is much appreciated!

Doggie Mohn keeping Lek company and being too active trying to lick all the time. The sentiment is appreciated of course, but sometimes just relaxing is better!
By the way, the wooden bed for humans has no mattress on it.

During the night when all things are quiet at House of Tails animal shelter in Kanchanaburi (Thailand). Bibi is laying close by and grooming a bit. Several others nicely sleeping here and there. And of course one who is literally in your face.

Lek is discussing in the evening with Fan Faa why the doggie is standing out there in the rain. Should just go inside there and not wait in the rain. Meanwhile also some other dogs walking around and of course, doggie grandmother Bibi is sitting inside.

The ears of 4 dogs of a nearby neighbor. Soo full of ticks. Of course, these dogs have ticks all over, but they like ears. We still had one Bravecto pill that had melted before for some reason. But Lek cut it into 4 pieces and gave it to the dogs. An hour later all the ticks started falling off the puppies. The dogs are so grateful for that! This keeps them clean for a few months. Neighbor couldn't pay for a whole pill, but gave a part of it. We could not let those dogs suffer, as you can clearly see.

Man, we have had a rough week at the shelter for sure.
Poor Naam Pla got sick suddenly, laying on the ground, breathing very difficult.

Rushed to the clinic and got first aid treatment. From there he recommended to go to Kampaeng Saen university veterinary hospital because it was too difficult. There she got admitted, and recommended to stay there for treatment at least 3 days. They start with putting her in a chamber with medicines admitted through the air. And meanwhile trying to figure out what is wrong with her.

Score so far, including clinic, medicines, hospital, 3 days treatment, gas for the car is 15000 Baht.

One of the most important days of the year today at House of Tails shelter. It is sterilization day! A team of people came to do about 30 sterilizations if possible. We will have to see the final number after today :-) But it will keep the population in the shelter down to the growth by people dumping dogs near the shelter. And not getting more puppies from the inside.

If you can, please help out this charity. Such a day is 700 Euro.
