My beautiful, brilliant, loving Cooper Jan 2010 - 2 Nov 2024
🐾
Many of you know already that I had to say goodbye to my best friend nearly 2 weeks ago already. Cooper developed breathing problems quite suddenly on the Monday night, although the amazing team at the Dieren Ziekenhuis here in Amsterdam stabilised him, they also discovered he had severe and progressive heart disease. On top of that he had a blood clot in his heart at high risk of causing him an embolism, a painful and traumatic death. And so I was advised to choose euthanasia and ensure he had a peaceful exit from this life.
🐾
I had nearly 5 days with him at home before the vet was booked to come, where despite feeling clearly old and tired he was his purring, trilling, affectionate (and food enthusiastic) self. I got to tell him his story, how he charmed us immediately when we met him at the Canning Town branch, to thank him for being the most incredible best friend, to tell him how much we love him and how deeply we will forever miss him.
🐾
On Saturday the 2 November, our lovely vet came to our house and after greeting her, Cooper settled on my lap and gently drifted away, head in mine and my husband's hands as we whispered our love to him.
🐾
These 2 weeks have felt so hard without him, I miss him so much and am still talking to him in his usual spots. To describe how awesome he was would take too many posts, but he was curious, so loving, intuitive, loyal, gentle and beautiful.
🐾
I know I was so lucky to have him in my life, to feel so loved, so chosen by him and I am truly grateful I got to ensure he avoided any unnecessary fear or pain as he left our world. Cooper you were an earth angel, a legend and I will always miss you so very much.
🐾
Thank you for bringing Cooper into our lives, he was a true and absolute gift.
