New beginnings are new adventures. Well, I guess I can say I’ve learned that one is true🥵🙋🏼‍♀️😄

It’s been a hectic year, a rollercoaster with everything that happened🎢 I’ve experienced every emotion which was sometimes quite scary. But I know that whatever comes our way, it’s up to ourselves to take what is given to us and make the very best of it and that’s what has been on my mind throughout it all ✨

I’ve taken you through my journey as much as possible, which sometimes meant I was totally quiet. But in the meantime I’ve grown, into a mother of the most beautiful little boy, and a stronger horse women, because the quiet moments taught me valuable things about my journey with them 🐎✨

I am happy to feel okay now in saying: I AM BACK! And I think better than ever 💪🏼 Because in times when there’s no room for distractions, you learn what you value most. It’s a given that events in life change us. But we either let it weaken us, or we grow. It’s the choice we have in difficult times and it’s the only thing we have to do: choose the direction of our change. And when we choose growth, new adventures have a chance to become beautiful new beginnings…💛🩵

To celebrate all the adventures life is giving us, I like to invite you to step into the adventure of a lifetime with your horse🔥 It’s up to us to make the best of our journey by learning and developing ourselves. We need to take that first step into the path we’d like to be on. There will be bumps, challenges and set backs, but if we stay resilient, open, and seek for the right guidance, we can overcome anything and beautiful things lie ahead 🐎❤️

To start now, I’m giving a big discount to take the first step into a new beginning!🤩👉🏼www.featherlightacademy.com/newbegin

How to help a horse overcome his fear for the rider? 🐎

In the NEW On Tour Problem Solving episode, I am showing a way to safely introduce myself from a riders position to the horse who developed serious anxiety from which he could not be ridden.

In the full video I show you what questions I need to ask to be able to help him, what is important to focus on and how to see and feel what the horse can and can’t handle and yet.

Why would exposing your horse to strange things attached to the saddle, like dummy riders, teddy-bears, balls etcetera, will only make the situation worse, if it’s to get the horse used to things?🧸

I know it’s been done a lot in starting young horses under the saddle or in trying to get a horse with fear for the rider more confident💥

But in the NEW episode of the On Tour Problem Solving Series I am showing you why just exposing your horse to strange things causes more distrust if you don’t help him when he asks you to...

I also show you how to read those signs, and how to help your horse so he can grow more confidence 💪🏼

It is time…!! 😭🙏🏼🥹 James is finally coming home!! 😭🥹🫶🏽😍❤️🩵🧸🙏🏼

I cannot describe to you how over the moon I am to be able to tell you James is finally home! After 9 weeks of intensive hospital care, we are finally able to take our little boy home. He learned to breathe, to drink (partly, if he doesn’t have the energy I’ve been educated to feed him through a feeding tube), he tripled in size, he is absolutely amazing and I am so proud of him!

He got discharged early and he’s still fragile, but…. he is home and it feels so so good!

What a journey it has been. I can’t really explain how the past weeks have been, there is too much to say. But I am incredibly thankful to all the nurses and doctors involved and taking such good care of him when he was born with 28 weeks 🩵🙏🏼

It’s all going to be okay 🩵

The next episode of the On Tour Problem Solving Series is now online!🔥🍿🤩 Watch the full series now at www.featherlightacademy.com, and learn from this special horse who couldn’t be turned into a riding horse 🙏🏼 Follow everything that happened when we visited him in Denmark... ❤️

In this episode I want to take the mental connection we established in the previous episodes, into more difficult circumstances. I want to help Don trust my feeling not to get him used to stuff, but because I need him to know he can still follow my feeling, also in a situation he is not completely sure of. In this video I show you what I focus on when I work under different circumstances, how and why I do this 💫

15/07/2024

Now that I haven’t been riding for a long time, I was looking back on the development Imola made 🖤 Our last focus had been on trying to figure out some new things, like the one-tempis. It gives me great joy watching these videos, as it feels a bit like riding her 🫶🏽😄

Yesterday was the big moment! After 5 months I was able to take Mellow out for a little hack and it was AMAZING! Weirdly enough, I don’t even have that muscle pain between the legs today, if you know what I mean… 🤸🏽‍♀️🤣

When you work with a horse on the rope, always ask yourself: what would he do if we were in liberty....? 🤷🏼‍♀️

The next episode of the On Tour Problem Solving Series for which we traveled to Denmark is now online 🔥 In this episode I show you what’s missing in the groundwork to be able to find a change 🍿

I show you what I focus on to help the insecure horse open up. Due to his insecurity he either shuts down and doesn’t respond in his body, or searches for an escape by fleeing away. I show you how to do groundwork in a way that improves the connection with the horse. I also teach you why just doing exercises makes the situation worse…

I often have people writing to me in despair, not knowing what to do with their horse. Sometimes they see one option left: putting the horse down. I don’t know if they would actually do it, I see it as a cry for help, but it shows how intense and serious the situation is for them.

I wrote a text about this a long time ago, but I think it’s good to do it again. As I truly believe, every horse can change, if we understand them better. With the new on tour series, I’ve tried my best to show exactly that.

Max did an amazing job in documenting the whole trip to Denmark, where we met a horse for which I received a letter because of this dilemma.

With this series I hope to be able to show the world, that even the horses we think we might need to give up on, are able to find a change as soon as we are ready to understand them. It's not about getting the horse to understand us, it's about showing him we understand him 💕

With this series, I hoped to help this horse and the owners, but also all the horses and owners who are facing this dilemma right now. I wanted to show the world first hand that it is always up to us to learn, and if we are not there yet, there are other things that makes life worth living.

I hope I am able to show my perspective on this throughout this series. It’s no critizim to those who feel that way right now, because I know things can look very difficult, scary, and you might not see another solution to the problem. It’s normal to have doubts, but I can assure you, there are always other options, never stop to keep on searching until you’ve found it. You got this! 😘❤️

YES!🔥😍👏 A NEW On Tour Series Problem Solving series at the Academy 🍿🔥 This time we traveled to Denmark to meet a horse with anxiety for the rider. Watch the series now at www.featherlightacademy.com 🐎

After our first tour to Hungary, I got so many messages from people all around the world who needed help with their horses so we decided to travel again 👏 I recieved an email that popped out about a horse with serious anxiety for the rider. I often get questions about horses with fear for the rider, so this sounded like an interesting case to film for you and learn from 🙏🏼

I spoke with the owner and she told me about her 5 year old horse named Don. From the age of 3, different trainers had been trying to start him under the saddle, but no one had managed to turn him into a safe riding horse. The owner, who co-owns him with the breeder, told me they were running out of options with this horse and had even been considering putting him down.

We decided to pack our bags and see if we could help them. Max did an amazing job in documenting the whole trip, so that we are able to show the world, that even the horses we think we might need to give up on, are able to find a change as soon as we are ready to understand them. It's not about getting the horse to understand us, it's about showing him we understand him 💕

At the Academy we continue with the next video in the NEW Groundwork Course🍿🔥 In this one I am teaching you everything you need to know on how your own body influences the horse. Watch the full video now at www.featherlightacademy.com 🐎

In the full Academy video I take you through the steps of how to find softness in the hindquarters and shoulders and I show you why it’s important to practice this with your horse.

Pip is a horse who’s quickly a bit tense. From this, he prefers to keep his body straight, so that he is able to quickly run away if there’s any danger. By showing him he could follow my body language and my intention towards softness through his whole body, he finds trust in my aids. Therefor it’s important to learn how to reach him through his hindquarters and shoulders. In this video I show you how to practice those important steps, so that you’re able to reach your horse when he needs you to.

I have one video with Madelief left and it's available at the Academy now 🍿🥰 In the NEW Acedemy video I am showing you how I work on the travers with Madelief. Watch the full series now at www.featherlightacademy.com and learn from Madelief's journey going from problem horse to dressage ⭐.

After we've started working on the travers in hand in the previous vidoe, and the horse understands a bit how to position his body, I'd like to introduce the travers in riding. The travers is a great exercise to teach the horse to carry more weight on the hind legs and to find softness in the body while coming more together.

DISCLAIMER: there a couple of images in this video that might be difficult to watch (images of Mella’s previous foal who unfortunately didn’t survive). Please don’t watch this video if you don’t want to see those things 🙏🏼

Since I’m a bit absent these days, I thought I’d over do it with a long video 👏🏼🤪 No just kidding, there’s just too much to say about Mella 🥰🥰 What a special horse she is 💥🫶🏽❤️🥰

This video was recorded while I was still carrying James. I didn’t know at the time I was recording this message for myself… the things this horse taught me.. once again ❤️

What happend with James (coming 3 months early) happened with Mella’s foal 2 years ago. Unfortunetely they don’t have incubators for foals so little Bella didn’t survive being 3 months premature. I recorded this video when I didn’t knew what was about to happen with me and James but it seems so valuable for me now..

Mella you rock😍🫶🏽❤️💥 Sometimes you need to listen to your own words.. 😄❤️🫶🏽

Mella and James are both doing well 🫶🏽 James is still at the NICU but in the best care and Mella is almost due.. just 4 more weeks to go…💕

In this video I teach you the importance of finding feel in the back up. In the full Academy video I show you different ways of backing up, which we need to practice with our horses before taking it to the trailer. Once the horse is on the trailer, it’s important to help him feel safe and connected in getting off as well, to prevent trust issues the next time. Playing with Mellow and the flags 🏳️🥰🔥 I loved how she smelled at the belly in the beginning when we filmed this a while ago 🥰🩵

Something I learn at the hospital is that tears and happiness can co-exist at the same time. Because what is the sad and beautiful thing about the whole situation at the same time? It’s that I love someone so deeply..🩵

It’s okay to cry tears of sadness, and it’s okay to cry tears of happiness. We need to find a way to allow both whenever and wherever they come, also if they’re 1 minute apart.

Being in this rollercoaster teaches me many things. The past few days I’ve experienced many beautiful moments, next to insecure ones. In life we need to allow ourselves to have tears of fear and insecurity but with that we need to realize that we’re also crying because we love. Let that feeling of love be more powerful than the sad tears will ever be. Then nothing can ever touch you more than the love you have for something or someone. Love is strong and love is what we do it for. Live for what you do it for 💖

NEW Academy video in the Starting Young Horses Course 🙏🏼❤️ Watch the full video now at www.featherlightacademy.com 🍿🐴

In this video I show you how and why I work from up the fence with young horses before I take a first ride with them. It’s important to show a young horse he can communicate with you in the same way when you are in a position that’s higher than him, in this case from up the fence. It prepares him to be able to follow you when you would be in the saddle later on.

Why have I been quiet on social media for a while?

Normally I don’t have any trouble finding words to write texts but this time it’s hard to find the right words. Let’s start with saying it’s all fine now, but we have been riding a rollercoaster..🎢

Two weeks ago I ended up in the hospital, as I spontaneously got into labor. I was 28 weeks pregnant so it was way too early for the baby to come. The doctors tried everything to delay the contractions to give our baby the highly needed medicine to mature his lungs. We needed 48 hours and we made that 🙏🏼❤️

With 28 weeks and 4 days our little son James Dominicus Smit is born 🩵🥹

It’s a bittersweet time. We are so in love with our little boy! 🙏🏼❤️🥹 And he is doing well but he has to stay in the hospital for a long time as he is 12 weeks premature. It’s an uncertain time but he is an amazing little fighter and I am beyond proud of him! I love all the moments we spend together 🩵 I love getting to know him and what he likes, it’s so special 🥹❤️🙏🏼

It’s heartbreaking not having him close to me at home but he is in very good hands and we spend a most of the day at the hospital with him 💛

I will slowly post a little bit from time to time as I need some distraction in the moments we’re not with him and it’s good to get back to some things I like to do ❤️🙏🏼 It might not be what it was right away, but it will come. My priority is with James at the moment so I can’t reply to messages as much but I’ll find my balance ❤️🙏🏼

Thank you for all your support in these different times 😘
