How to perform well at competitions?
Keep in mind the 5 Ps:
Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance
So..preparation is key! Make a packing list to make sure you don't forget anything. Also, your show-prep routine is very important. We clean our tack and boots on the day before the competition to save time on the day of the competition. Depending on the day we wash our horses the day before or on the competition day itself. To make white legs as white as snow, we apply baby powder when the legs are dry after washing. This makes the legs look all clean and shiny.
When you are well prepared, you don't have to stress about forgetting something or having a dirty horse and you can completely focus on your test or course. Your brain works like catching a rabbit. If you focus on two, you don't catch any. Practice your test so you know it well.
Make sure at least an hour before the test or course, all you have to focus on is your riding!
