A Case of Retained Placenta on a doe (Goat female):
A call was made by a farmer of Amar Tole on Rampur Veterinary clinic and Research Centre with complain of retained placenta for about 24 hours. Team of student with doctor visited the farm and got an update about its health condition, to know about Presentation of kid at parturition and feeding status.
Doe health status was normal with optimum level of feeding. We got to know that the first kid born (among triplet kids) had dorsal transverse presentation and was born dead with the assist of mild traction by the farmer. Dead kid was slightly dried and skinny, we couldn’t take its picture as it was immediatedly disposed by farmer. Among the 2nd and 3rd born, one had slight osteoarthritis with slight pain on pressure.
Retention of Placenta occurs due to hormonal imbalances, lack of blood calcium, overstretching of myometrium (oversized fetus), metritis, uterine torsion, twining, dystocia and bacterial infection are the major causes of retention in cows.
