The black molly is a peaceful fish. It is a good choice if you want a community tank with several types of fish.

One of the advantages of choosing this fish is that it can adapt to fresh, brackish and even salt water. This allows you some leeway when setting up a new tank.

These fish prefer a temperature that ranges from 70 to 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

They are livebearers, so if you buy a male and a female pair, you could end up with babies. However, they do tend to eat the young if there is not adequate vegetation for the babies to hide.

Do Fish Sleep?
Fish do sleep. Most fish don’t have "eyelids". If the aquarium lights are left on for twenty-four hours a day, the fish will not sleep. They will become stressed, and eventually they’ll die. Most fish sleep lying on the bottom of the tank. If the room is dark, and you’ve just turned your aquarium lights on, don’t worry, your fish aren’t dead, they’re sleeping!

Goldfish don’t have stomachs!
Goldfish don’t have stomachs and should therefore be fed easily digestible food in lots of small feeding sessions, rather than lots of food at once. This is also why goldfish produce so much waste and why you need a filter to keep their water clean.

My Fish Have White Spots - Are They Sick?
The most common disease that occurs in aquariums takes the form of tiny white cysts on the body and fins of the fish. They look like tiny grains of salt. Symptoms include rapid gill movement and scratching against objects. This is caused by a one-celled parasite. The tiny white grains of salt are actually calcium cysts secreted by the parasites to protect them while they feed.

Identical symptoms, and the form this disease takes, occur in both freshwater and marine aquariums, although it is a different animal that causes the problem. In freshwater the parasite is named Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, which we call "Ich" for short. In saltwater the parasite is named Cryptocaryon irritans, which we call "Crypt" for short. Both feed on the bodily fluids of fish. Both have a ten to fourteen day life cycle. Fortunately, if the problem is caught in time, both diseases can easily be cured. It is a good idea to look closely at your fish at least once a week for signs of trouble and call us right away if you see this problem.

SHUBUNKIN (One of the species of Goldfish)
Shubunkins are similar to the common goldfish and comet goldfish in appearance. They were first bred in Japan, from mutations in telescope eye goldfish. They have streamlined bodies with well-developed and even fins. However, the shubunkins are calico goldfish; they possess nacreous scales (a mix of metallic and transparent scales that are pearly in appearance). The overlapping patches of red, white, blue, grey and black (along with dark speckles) normally extend to the finnage of shubunkins.Shubunkins are excellent pond fish because they reach a length of 9 to 18 inches (23 to 41 centimeters) at adulthood. A shubunkin goldfish is considered an adult at 2 to 3 years of age
