Bowie is the best buddy for dogs that lack certain social skills. He's very submissive, will always back down when things escalate. If he meets a dog that doesn't want to play, he'll get the message immediately and will go off and do his own thing.

While these skills are wonderful, I'm also trying to help him grow even further, which is why pairing him up with Cillian here, has been great for him (and Cillian of course!). Cillian is one of those dogs that knows no boundaries...he doesn't take the time to get to know a new dog, he just goes in to instant rough play cos that's just his style. When Bowie first met him, Cillian dominated the play time with ease. Their second play date however, was very different. That's when we saw Bowie stand up to Cillian, telling him "that's enough", but when Cillian didn't listen, Bowie gave him the silent treatment while holding a strong position.

Seeing Bowie grow in his abilities is such a gift and I can't wait to see what else we able to achieve together 🩷

Bowie can barely hold back his excitement when we meet new dogs at the park! 🤪

I started taking Bowie to our local dog park a few months ago to help him use up some extra energy as well as socialise. It's such a great thing, watching dogs just be dogs with other dogs. For a lot of us, they're our babies, which is fantastic, but don't forget they still have instincts and needs beyond our capabilities. At the park, Bowie can run at his pace, he can chase the birds in the sky without having to consider the human on the other end of the lead, and he can run around with his dog mates until he's tired.

While dog parks are fantastic, it's important to remember that having some form of recall is a must, especially for more intense personalities. Your dog needs to be able to understand you well enough that if you see a situation escalating, you calling them is to help them out of it or to let them know they're taking it too far. The key is to work on these techniques one on one first.

I am super excited to announce the newest addition to my dog training business...a DOG SHOP!!! Today I tried something different with Cillian during our walk. It's been a while since I've seen him cos his family just welcomed a new baby!

He was beyond excited to see me, so during our walk I chose areas where I allowed him to have a good sniff. The reason it's important to be selective about where they can sniff around is because we, as their guardian, are able to do a brief surveillance of the area to ensure it's safe, then let them know it's okay to stray off the usual more controlled walk and get their faces in the long grass!!

It's a massive understatement to say that he loved this! After each area he was able to sniff around in, he got so excited he forgot for a brief moment that he was attached to me 😅 He only needed a gentle reminder and then we were back to our regular walk as usual.

Say hello to the handsome Kairo 😍
Kairo has been having some issues with reactivity, especially with other dogs. Our first session we focused on understanding why and where the reactivity stems from, and then got stuck in to techniques to help Kairo understand the best way to respond to things that trigger him, and communicating to him that how he's been reacting so far is not what we want from him. To do this he has to understand that what normally triggers him is no longer and issue, and that comes from his people. 1 week after our session and he is already so much calmer, more responsive to his people and more focused on what's healthy (his mum). Most of all, his people are more aware of his triggers and have the tools and knowledge to guide him in the right direction now 🥰🐾

Cillian was like a kid at Disney land during our trip to Animates. Go take your dogs to places that allow dogs! Animates welcome all pups and encourage those who are in training as they know just how important these trips are. Mitre 10, Bunnings, and some garden centres also allow dogs as long as they are on leash and well behaved. Take them early in their life to socialise them, expose them to environments that can become too overwhelming later in life and meet lots of different types of people along the way. Perfect for rainy days when walks aren't an option. These trips will help when it comes to vet visits too 🐾

I am so grateful to be part of this baby girl's start in life and I couldn't be more happy about it 🥰 meet Skye, she's 2 months old and has already learned "sit" and is well on her way to mastering "drop it", "leave it" and "come". At this rate she'll be a professor of squeaky toys and "how to make humans go 'awwww' " in no time 😅

Meet Zoro, he has been rescued from the streets and temporarily living with some amazing humans who took him in when he was starving and injured. He has had vet care and lots of yummy meals to help him gain his strength. I am also working with them to help him with some training to help him until he finds a home. He's not microchiped either.

The lovely humans who took him in are unable to have him at their house too long though as it's not the most secure yard and he's so used to roaming he gets out at any given opportunity. He has been worm and flea treated and booked in for desex early June.

A little description of Zoro from his current caretakers:

"Zoro is a smart and attentive companion in need of a loving home! This resilient pup now brims with energy and curiosity. Best suited for an experienced owner with time to spare, he craves attention and learns new tricks easily. Must have a fully fenced property as he’s used to fending for himself but once he knows he has a secure home he will adapt right away. Needs a lot of toys as he loves to chew. He isn’t toilet trained so will need help in that area."

Yesterday was a huge success! After Cillian lost his old best friend, I've been working to find him a new one ever since. When I heard about Anakin, I knew instantly they'd be a perfect match! Cillian is very rough when he plays and tries to play this way with his humans, so it's important for him to have a healthy outlet for this type of activity. Something I like to teach all of my clients is...The Find It Game! 🧐 not only does this game challenge dogs to wait for food (obedience), it also helps them use their senses to search for the food as well (tapping in to their instincts). It keeps their brains active and makes meal times more fun. It's also great for distractions and for enrichment and can encourage "lazy" dogs to exercise! I have some availability during April and May, so get in touch because I'd love to help your dogs learn this game and so more!! 🐾
