Graduated the Heartland Horseshoeing Journeyman Farrier Course, safe to say the most challenging and fulfilling stage of my life so far and extremely excited to get into the industry back in New Zealand.

I’ll be returning to Canterbury at the start of October and taking bookings from 16th October as the first 2 weeks are fully booked.

Feel free to message me with any questions you have!

White line disease.

Here we have done a resection of the foot and applied a W shoe. As long as oxygen is allowed to kill the disease this foot should grow back out to its normal self and be healthy again.

A couple of tidy ups that we did for some horses that were very overdue.

This was a Morgan horse and had missed a few cycles so we did what we could and will look to improve further on the next cycle.

Interesting day here in Missouri.

First time shoeing Amish horses, the one I ended up doing had a severe case of scalping. The scalping is where the borium/drilltek hits the hind feet and wears away the hoof wall until it inevitably gets to the coffin bone. From what we could tell we think he had worn through at least half to 2/3 of the hoof wall and was in some serious pain.

Due to the Amish using their horses for transport in carts they need borium/drilltek on their shoes to help with wear.

We made handmade shoes for this guy, with rocker toes on the front and extended heels in the hinds. Aim of the game was to make him as comfortable as possible. They have a local Amish who shoes their horses so we did the best we can and hope we get to see him again.

Extremely interesting to see these horses that are still used as they would be hundreds of years ago.
