Please be careful with where and who you board your guinea pigs with.

Morning Villagers!

We have some young and immature young backyard breeders trying to discredit Yogi’s Village.

The only thing they can find to try target us is that we use bark and because of this “we shouldn’t own cavys and should do research”.

We looked into many long term options for our environments, we have fleece in all the housing and after there first winter here the ground had turned to mud which was not good for there feet and was making them incredibly dirty.

So with much consideration and consideration to the fact that we have a LARGE grass back yard they have access to all seasons apart from a slight break over winter to let it recover we barked off one area. We do this so they can have a large free range area and not live in tiny housing and cages like breeders have. They don’t eat it or try eating it. We add a new fresh layer each year. All our research and advice from an exotic veterinarian on this was for it as mud was not sustainable for the large numbers we had here at one point at the rescue (35). We wanted a nice area for them. A clean area.

For those who have been here, does it smell? Is it covered in p**p? Are the rescues limping around struggling with it? No.

The bark doesn’t absorb p*e which is FANTASTIC, why because it soaks down into the ground below away from the guinea pigs. They have nice nails as they naturally grind down from the different textures. We don’t have and never have had fugal issues or bubble foot. You can probably ask anyone who has adopted rescues from us on what conditions they have come it, and they would probably tell you good things.

I pride myself of the image I have set for Yogi’s. Despite being unable to operate at the moment while I am off work, the ones remaining are still well cared for.

I have attached one of the comments from one person, the other comment was identical to this one.

Both these people have been removed from a guinea pig group awhile ago, and clearly have some sour grapes.

Thank you for taking the time post on my rescue page, as it have given me a great opportunity to explain our use of bark.

Sorry for the long silence.

Who would have thought a baby would consume so much time, especially social media time.

The piggies are well and have been working hard to mow the back lawn over the Christmas break 🎄

Unfortunately I don’t have tome to reply to messages as I don’t get on here often and they have build up over the past months.

One day we will get back into it but we are still soaking up our time as a family and enjoying the oldies at the village we have left.

Betty (not pictured) is looking like she is slowing down. She has been having extra snuggles and treats. She was left in a box in the sun by someones door, forgotten about and left. Her life since, has been full of food, cozy beds and grass to zoom on.

Have a wheeking good 2023 every piggy! ❤️

Over the past two days we have lost Fozzie (our special needs boy) and Panda. 😢❤️‍🩹

Fozzie was lucky to have lived as long as he did due to his deformities from inbreeding before his rescue. He lived a splendid life and had the pleasure of living his special needs ladies. His death was sudden and out of the blue, which means he showed no signs of concern to think something was up. I awoke this morning to see Flossie standing over his passed body. Heart breaking to see. He was still warm. He was 5 and lived 3 years longer then expected.

Panda unfortunately was found to have had something neurological happen, a stroke I suspect and begun to suffer from seizures during the night. Unfortunately he needed assistance to pass at the emergency vets. My heart is truely broken. Panda cane with half his finger cut off and needed to be amputated when he was 8 weeks old. He was shy, but mighty. He was going to be 7 in December.

The girls that lived with these two desexed males have been put in to settle with Yogi and his girls.

"He is beyond treasured after the roller coaster of our lives. Have hope always. ❤️" ~ Laura Celeste.

We’re thrilled to share that Laura, from our support group, & her husband Carl recently welcomed a beautiful baby boy into their whānau.

This little one brings so much joy and hope as Carl was diagnosed with bowel cancer last year at age 49. It was just as he and Laura found out they were expecting their first miracle baby thanks to fertility treatment.

Laura remembers her husband often saying, “I just want to be strong enough to hold our baby, to be there to cut his cord."

Carl underwent chemotherapy and radiation during Laura's pregnancy, and a few weeks before her due date, they got the good news of the all-clear.

“The doctor was sure Carl was going to have surgery after treatment, but we got the unexpected news just before baby’s arrival of the all clear, and he will now be monitored intensely for the next 5 years.”

We are over the moon for you and all your whānau, Laura and Carl. We know this precious little one will be loved beyond measure. Thank you for sharing your lovely news and undoubtedly giving hope to others. 💜

It is a real change not being outside giving my first loves all my attention now that I have had my baby.

It has been a huge juggle. My favourite part of my day before my baby wakes, is opening the kitchen curtains and seeing all the village rescues on the lawn, sun just rising and the grass defrosting. It looks magical.

Oh and, I have mastered piggy jobs while wearing a front pack too now 😅!

We welcomed our son Thomas on the 2/5/2022 into our village.

He hasn’t yet had an opportunity to meet his furry family outside. I know Yogi is desperate for some cuddles (because they will come with treats). Yogi voted correctly that we would have a boy.

At the moment we are adjusting to this incredible change in our lives and soaking up every minute of our beautiful boy. I can’t seem to get enough of him and feel by the end of the day I still haven’t looked at him enough.

What a ride it has been over the past 9 months. I am so thrilled to have him here with us now.

Carl and I are doing well.

So far he prefers to lick the blue finger. So that is his vote! 😅
