When Christchurch Inspectors first met Alex in July, they were shocked by his emaciated condition - the worst Inspector Jeanee had ever seen. Weighing half of what he should and so weak he couldn’t stand or even lift his head, the odds were stacked against him 💔
But this brave dog defied expectations. Alex had a strength of spirit which defied the weak body it resided in, and he went on to make a truly incredible recovery – check out the video below.
When you donate to SPCA, you are making journeys like Alex’s possible. Can you make a donation today to be there for animals like him in their darkest hour? Head to www.spca.nz/donate/alex-story 🙏

After nine months of patiently waiting, Ludo had nearly given up hope on finding his forever family 😔 But Susan and Peter knew after meeting him, Ludo was the dog for them!
Now, all settled into his new home, his mum Susan has shared an update, “Ludo has settled in very well and we are delighted with his progress! He is an excellent frisbee catcher but tennis ball chasing remains his game of choice. There is still a lot of anxiety around other dogs approaching but he is getting much better at checking with us and not lunging at them. It is a work in progress but he has clearly been well-trained and is very intelligent and responsive. He has made huge progress in a short space of time and is a loving little man."
Happy #FureverHomeFriday Ludo! ❤️

Tailless video
When you don’t have a tail, so have to chase your foot instead… 😅
Mr. Jenkins is one of the 1,584 (!!) SPCA felines in foster care nationwide right now. There are all sorts of reasons an animal may require some time in a temporary foster home before they become ready for adoption; in Mr. Jenkins case, that is recovering from tail amputation surgery.
Losing his tail hasn’t slowed the boisterous little man down though – quite the opposite, as you can see! If you’d like to enjoy watching the antics of an animal like him, head to www.spca.nz/foster to give fostering a go today!
Pebbles and Bam Bam (1)
Pebbles and Bam Bam were discovered in a Christchurch landfill with no food or clean water to drink. Trapped in a concrete pit, they only had access to contaminated liquid waste to drink, which wrecked havoc on their tiny bodies. The damage from the hazardous substance and conditions meant both kittens needed surgery to have an eye removed ❤️
Despite all this, the pair has shown such resilience, and through it all they have become best friends for life! Pebbles and Bam Bam are now fully recovered and ready to find their forever home at last, if you’re interested in bringing these little warriors home visit www.spca.nz/pebbles-and-bambam 🥰
Let’s start this week’s #TransformationTuesday with some seriously wholesome content 🐴❤️ After coming in to us in a seriously sorry state, beautiful Brie needed months of rehab in SPCA’s care before she was ready to be made available for adoption. Just recently, Brie was taken to her forever home, where she settled right in, and the team has found it so sweet to see how much this gentle giant absolutely adores her tiny human. If the video is anything to go by… we’d say the feeling is mutual!
