Please feel free to pop in over the next two days to see her. She would love to give all her patients one last wee ear scratch and treat. 🐶
IMPORTANT PET ALERT: Babesia gibsoni detected in NZ.
You may have heard about the recent detection of Babesia gibsoni in a dog in Canterbury this week. Here's what you need to know:
What is it? Babesia gibsoni is a protozoal parasite that damages red blood cells causing anaemia in dogs. It's transmitted by ticks and can also spread through blood transfusions and dog bites. Symptoms vary but can include fever, lethargy, anemia and blood clotting abnormalities. Severe cases may lead to organ failure and death.
Action Needed: To protect your fur friend, make sure their flea/tick prevention is up to date. If your dog shows symptoms or if you're not sure if their treatment is up to date, contact our team for advice.

A wee reminder (courtesy of a very cute but very sorry patient) from our Petfirst Veterinary Petfirst team: No matter how sweet your fur baby is, chocolate is NOT their friend and is highly toxic to them. Keep it out of reach, make sure all those hidden eggs are found by the kids, not your pets and phone your local clinic if the worst happens. Happy Easter and stay safe 🐇
As we count down to the long weekend, Hazel would like to remind her furry friends to stay away from the Easter eggs this weekend. Chocolate is toxic to dogs. Hazel got a little too excited and had to come and see us after getting into the Easter eggs early. Remember to keep the chocolate treats out of reach 🐰
Our clinics will be closed on Good Friday (29/3), Easter Sunday (31/3) and Easter Monday (1/4). Emergency care is always available, phone your clinic for details and advice. 🐇
Our clinic is closed on Monday for Otago Anniversary Day. Emergency care is always available, call the clinic for details and advice.
