Welcome to your local permaculture community! Please "Like" and "Share" your region's page and contribute your ideas, progress, and feedback as part of the global movement towards local and global restoration. Our focus is on local permaculture networking, promoting community resilience, sustainability, zero waste, reducing consumption, health, nutrition, food, cooking, life quality, seed-saving, earth building, gardening, farming, biodiversity, beekeeping, water harvesting, power generation, and bringing your space to life. Whatever your interest or passion, this page is dedicated to exchanging crucial information for a healthy, happy, and informed life. Let's work together to usher in a new economic paradigm that can dramatically improve the quality of life for billions of people worldwide. Our civilization has left a desert in its wake, but we have the power to resolve this. Permaculture is the science of designing a culture that can be truly permanent. It's a global movement for positive change, regenerating the biosphere, starting from our thoughts and expanding to our homes, local communities, and beyond. This space is open for various purposes, such as discussing ideas, receiving feedback on designs, finding inspiration, swapping seeds and plants, sharing photos or videos, organizing events, permablitzes, meetings, workshops, protests, or tours. You can also use it to trade or give away surplus items. Let's share the abundance!

In 2010 I had the idea to expand beyond traditional permaculture circles and create a permaculture network that reaches a wider audience. I recognized the untapped potential of Facebook as a tool for spreading awareness about permaculture to people who were unfamiliar with it, particularly among younger demographics. I believed that Facebook could be used locally, regionally, and nationwide to encourage people to think about and engage in permaculture both online and in face-to-face interactions. Additionally, I saw an opportunity to promote permaculture-related websites and establish a main regionalized forum. In October 2011, I started the first regional page, Permaculture Manawatu, and later expanded to fifteen regional pages across the country. Due to the workload, I recruited enthusiastic individuals from different regions to act as local permaculture mentors and assist with page administration and engagement within their respective communities. With a diverse group of people on board, we have fostered a rich exchange of knowledge and talents, continuously enhancing the value of the pages as a whole. From a holistic management perspective, Facebook's statistical data provides valuable insights. We can analyze the age groups and genders of page users, identify the most and least active regions, determine popular and less popular topics, spot areas of confusion, and assess the strength and weakness of permaculture understanding in different regions. This information helps us tailor courses and events to specific locations and identify regions that would benefit from additional permaculture support. Through our pages, we facilitate knowledge sharing, trading, permablitzes, courses, events, and even the distribution of donated and discounted permaculture resources. Moreover, the pages serve as a gateway to external groups and websites, facilitating further engagement. We have reached a point where we have multiple mentors for each region, and our goal is to attract more reputable mentors and encourage lively interaction in the comments sections. Ultimately, we aim to direct followers to a nationwide regionalized forum to enhance networking. Once we achieve this, we anticipate gaining more momentum and making a greater impact on community resilience.

Here youโ€™ll find some brief definitions and a listing of the ethics and principles of permaculture. For more in depth information see www.permaculture.org.au and www.permacultureprinciples.com

Definition: Permaculture is a land use design methodology based on ecological principles, with practical application which start at an individual level and branch out to sustainable households, which flow on to eco-conscious nations, and in turn, global restoration. "Permaculture (permanent agriculture) is the conscious design and maintenance of agriculturally productive ecosystems which have the diversity, stability, and resilience of natural ecosystems." Bill Mollison, from Permaculture: A Designers Manual

"Consciously designed landscapes which mimic the patterns and relationships found in nature, while yielding an abundance of food, fibre and energy for provision of local needs." and "I see permaculture as the use of systems thinking and design principles that provide the organising framework for implementing the above vision." David Holmgren, from Permaculture: Principles and Pathways Beyond Sustainability

Practicing the three core ethics of permaculture in all areas of our lives moves us towards sustainability.

๐—˜๐—”๐—ฅ๐—ง๐—› ๐—–๐—”๐—ฅ๐—˜:
Provision for all life systems to continue and multiply. Earth care encompasses care of the soil, care of all living systems.

๐—ฃ๐—˜๐—ข๐—ฃ๐—Ÿ๐—˜ ๐—–๐—”๐—ฅ๐—˜:
Provision for people to access the resources necessary for their existence. People Care starts with the self - if you don't take care of yourself you can't care for anyone else! From the self, People Care spreads out to kin and community.

๐—™๐—”๐—œ๐—ฅ ๐—ฆ๐—›๐—”๐—ฅ๐—˜:
This is sometimes called "Surplus Share" or "Share our Resources". By governing our own needs, we can set resources aside to further our ethics. Set limits to consumption, growth and population.

1) Observe and interact: By taking time to engage with nature we can design solutions that suit our particular situation.

2) Catch and store energy: By developing systems that collect resources at peak abundance, we can use them in times of need.

3) Obtain a yield: Ensure that you are getting truly useful rewards as part of the work that you are doing.

4) Apply self-regulation and accept feedback: We need to discourage inappropriate activity to ensure that systems can continue to function well.

5) Use and value renewable resources and services: Make the best use of nature's abundance to reduce our consumptive behaviour and dependence on non-renewable resources.

6) Produce no waste: By valuing and making use of all the resources that are available to us, nothing goes to waste.

7) Design from patterns to details: By stepping back, we can observe patterns in nature and society. These can form the backbone of our designs, with the details filled in as we go.

8) Integrate rather than segregate: By putting the right things in the right place, relationships develop between those things and they work together to support each other.

9) Use small and slow solutions: Small and slow systems are easier to maintain than big ones, making better use of local resources and producing more sustainable outcomes.

10) Use and value diversity: Diversity reduces vulnerability to a variety of threats and takes advantage of the unique nature of the environment in which it resides.

11) Use edges and value the marginal: The interface between things is where the most interesting events take place. These are often the most valuable, diverse and productive elements in the system.

12) Creatively use and respond to change: We can have a positive impact on inevitable change by carefully observing, and then intervening at the right time.
