Happy New Year!

We’ve just had our last vet appointment of the year, so that’s a wrap for 2025.

We’ll be closed for the next couple of days so that our team have naps, catch up on admin, and finish some maintenance in our cattery.

Adopters and foster whānau can still reach out for urgent situations, but the general public should expect to wait until the 3rd (at the earliest) for a reply.

For non-urgent situations, hang tight. For urgent situations (you've found a dying cat etc.), the team at Waikato Afterhours Veterinary Hospital are still working.

For everybody who has supported The Pawphanage this year – thank you!

With the help of the team at CareVets; our adopters, fosterers and volunteers; people who have contributed their expertise, goods, or financially; and the organisations, funding providers, and businesses who have supported us, 576 little souls got help in 2025.

We couldn’t have done it without you all. Bring on 2026!

*** Māmā Found ***

If you or somebody you know left a banana box of kittens near the toilet block in Fitzroy Park (Waterford Road entrance) today, could you reach out to let us know what māmā looks like?

If she was in the box too, she's escaped and has gone missing but we'd like to reunite this little whānau.

Anonymous is fine, just send us an email via our website ( https://thepawphanage.nz/contact/ ) and use fake details.

NB: Commenting is turned off - we're too busy to monitor them. Remember, nasty comments on social media WILL prevent people from reaching out for help in the future.

Meri Kirihimete!

We're closed for the next couple of days so that our team can have a bit of a breather while they get the chance.

Adopters and foster whānau can still reach out for urgent situations, but the general public should expect to wait until the 27th (at the earliest) for a reply.

For non-urgent situations, hang tight. For urgent situations (you've found a dying cat etc.), the team at Waikato Afterhours Veterinary Hospital are still working.

Honoured to have been a part of The Lawrenson Group's annual Christmas Toy and Can Drive this year.

It's been a hard 2025 but people have been incredibly generous, and we're personally thrilled to see so many toys donated this year for kids who are doing it tough!

If you popped into Keystone Bar and Restaurant, The Bank Bar and Brasserie, House on Hood, or Tipsy Putt and contributed, thank you!

We know a lot of people have been doing it tough over the last couple of years so it is particularly humbling to see how generous the people of Hamilton have been once again in their contributions to the Lawrenson Group’s annual Christmas toy and pet food drive. A massive thank you to everyone who contributed, and also to Barnardos Aotearoa, The Pawphanage, and Pound Hounds Rescue NZ for everything they do for those less fortunate, especially at this time of year. Merry Christmas to everyone from the Lawrenson Group and the teams at Keystone, The Bank, House on Hood, and Tipsy Putt!

Don't forget - The Lawrenson Group Christmas Gift & Can Drive is back for 2025, and we're one of the charities benefitting from it!

Make a difference this holiday season while enjoying a few drinks at Keystone Bar and Restaurant, House on Hood, The Bank Bar and Brasserie, and Tipsy Putt. Take in a can of pet food (400g or larger) this weekend and you can swap it for a glass of beer, cider, or house wine (selected products only).

All pet food will be donated to Pound Hounds Rescue NZ, and The Pawphanage, who are in need of pet food this festive season.

Want to do something for the kids as well? Bring in a new toy with the receipt and you'll receive a Lawrenson Group voucher equal to the value of the present, or the equivalent discount from your bill (up to a maximum donation of $100).

All the toys will be donated to the children’s charity Barnados just in time for Christmas!

Terms and conditions apply. For more information, please email [email protected].

We've got six gorgeous kittens looking for new addresses tomorrow, but unfortunately, not enough time to photograph and advertise them all individually.

These kids are all super lovely, have been raised in foster homes with kids, and are 12-14 weeks old.

• Tabby DMH girl (pictured)
• Black DMH girl
• Black DSH boy
• Black / White DMH girl
• Black / White DSH girl
• Black / White DMH boy

(DSH = short haired, DMH = a bit fluffy)

Our hairy kids are health checked (standard, non-exhaustive), desexed, microchipped + registered on the New Zealand Companion Animal Register, have had their first core vaccination (you'll need to get them a booster vaccination in four weeks), and are up to date with worm/flea treatments.

Their adoption fee is $220 to help offset a few of their costs.

To organise a meet and greet, by giving us a call on 07 949 6610 (9am – 6pm Tuesday to Saturday, leave a message if I don't answer - I'll be busy). We're based in Glenview, Hamilton.

NB: If you rent your home, you'll need to provide a copy of your tenancy agreement stating that cats are allowed.

Are your and your whānau at home over the Christmas and New Years period and want to help save lives?

We’ve had a massive influx of kittens born to unfriendly māmās who all need to find foster homes to teach them how to love people.

They’ve all been weaned, are between 6 and 10 weeks old and the socialisation process has been started (they’re scared, not aggressive). Splitting litters into easily manageable sizes isn’t an issue.

We supply absolutely everything that you need (including crates or play pens), you just have to commit to showering them with love, showing them that the world is a wonderful place, and bringing them into the shelter on a fortnightly basis for a check-up.

If you’ve already signed up and currently have capacity, reach out ([email protected]), if you haven’t already signed up and want to lend a hand, jump on over to thepawphanage.nz/foster/
The Pawphanage is based in Hamilton.

NB: We are currently only in need of foster whānau for spicy kittens (and also friendly māmās with teeny-tinies)

Panda, her carrier, and some food were left at a property on MacFarlane Street 13/12/25. The residents have been away for some time.

We’ve spoken to a couple of her previous owners and a boarding cattery who previously boarded her, we just don’t know who currently owns her.

Is it you?
