THE HOME OF AVERILS QUEST AND HARNESS RACING! Welcome to the home of the MacKenzie Family harness racing team "Purple & Gold Maltese Cross".
Headed by Rod & Raewyn MacKenzie they have had great success over the years with many pacers including Rocket Averil, Averil's Quest, Saucy Star, Saucy Magic, and many many more. From the early days of Fidalgo through to the less than stellar success of Tracey Dawn (the horse, not the person!) and the export of Nicola Mary (again the horse, not the person) there have been many successes, much fun and many fond memories including the Road to the Jewels in 2013.
Waikato horseman Rod MacKenzie might not be a household name in New Zealand harness racing, but he should be. Rod

Success! Merry Christmas from Fizzilizzi & the team :)
Welcome to the home of the MacKenzie Family harness racing team "Purple & Gold Maltese Cross". Headed by Rod & Raewyn MacKenzie. Both Rod and Raewyn have had great success over the years together with many pacers including Rocket Averil, Averil's Quest, Saucy Star, Saucy Magic, Nicola Mary, Babbling Brook, and many many more.
The early days of Guipure, Fidalgo through to the less than stellar success of Tracey Dawn (the horse, not the person!). The export of Nicola Mary (again the horse, not the person) there has been many successes, much fun and many fond memories including the Road to the Jewels in 2013.
Now as we reach into 2018, Rod is, in his own words ‘getting a bit bored’ waiting for the new ones to be ready to race. Averils Quest has had two Foals - and we are pleased to announce she has just been confirmed as pregnant for the third time. So another November baby here and hopefully we’ll see some racing soon.
In the meantime, Rod keeps a very keen eye on the current events in racing via Trackside and networking with the stream of friends, business partners and acquaintances he’s met along this path to success. One of the very honest, straight and upfront racing teams you’ll find about in today's racing - something that is unquestionably own to the ethics of consistency, hard work, and ‘loving what you do so it isn’t a job’.
A great team both on and off the track, Rod and Raewyn have two lovely, intelligent, capable and beautiful daughters, Tracey and Nicola. Tracey has a 23-year-old son Jaymz, who while he has a flair for winning and showed some promise at a small course for amateur training to drive, has taken his career in another direction but has applied many of the ethics and lessons learnt from Rod and Raewyn to his own successful business.
So what’s next.. getting back geared up to strike a win at the jewels? A few more successes at Alexandra Park and Cambridge? Who knows, but each event is exciting and something to look forward to. Follow along with us - a small family where racing runs in the blood faster than a rush of sugar after a couple of creme eggs!Welcome to the home of the MacKenzie Family harness racing team "Purple & Gold Maltese Cross".
Headed by Rod & Raewyn MacKenzie, both Rod and Raewyn have had great success over their 46+ years together with pacers including Rocket Averil, Averil's Quest, Saucy Star, Saucy Magic, Nicola Mary, Babbling Brook, and many many more - not to forget the old trotter or galloper here or there perhaps.
From the early days of Fidalgo through to the less than stellar success of Tracey Dawn (the horse, not the person!) and the export of Nicola Mary (again the horse, not the person) there have been many successes, much fun and many fond memories including the Road to the Jewels in 2013.
