Blue Boy aka Flynn got his angels wings yesterday unfortunately 🥺
He had a severe injury that impacted his quality of life so his hooman had to make the call we all dread the thought of ever having to do.
Flynn began life as a stray/feral kitten in a colony in Nelson. Jets Rainbow Rescue stepped in, trapping desexing and releasing or rehoming.
Flynn was borderline in age for taming (hence being ear tipped) but never showed aggression to anyone. So I took him on (then in Golden Bay) to Hunterise and Rehome.
He grew into a very affectionate young cat and found himself his purfect home 😍
He’s going to leave a huge gap behind in his household 💔 but now he’s pain free and can hunt to his hearts content ❤️

This is just one organisation - SPCA.
ALL cat rescues have and still are struggling to keep up with the huge number of unwanted felions.
Please spread the message to desex, donate your time or coins to a rescue, or adopt if you are in the position to do so.

The second cat rescue in the Canterbury region I’ve seen close to new felions as they are at maximum capacity 😢

How can you help?

🐾 DESEX - desex, desex, desex…no excuses, just get them fixed!

🐾 DONATE- money for vet bills and supplies, kitten food, crates, cages, litter and litter boxes, cleaning supplies.

🐾 ADOPT - if you have room in your heart, home and wallet ❤️

🐾 FOSTER - If you have the time, offer to be a foster carer. Everything is supplied, you just need to donate your time to help get these kitties to a rehomable status.

🐾 TRAP - kittens before they become too old to tame. Adults/older cats are very difficult to tame + it becomes an issue on what is fair to essentially a wild animal in captivity.
Anything older then 5-6months needs to either be desexed and released (keeping in mind it’ll probably never go into a trap again, so any health or injuries issues will often lead to a slow death) or unfortunately euthanised to stop the cycle 😢

Unfortunately, due to low adoptions PUSSN BOOTS KITTY Rescue is now CLOSED for any further INTAKES until further notice, as we are at max. capacity.

Wee plain tabby girl about 5wks old that the kids have named Whiskers ❤️
Found in a local’s shed, it’s sibling unfortunately met their dog first. A common ending for wild cats/kittens. People think that ‘releasing them into the wild’ gives them a chance, but they often have much shortened lifespans due to breeding early, disease, fighting, starvation, parasites and being killed. Catching them while they are little gives them the best chance to go through the right channels and break the cycle of further breeding.

As I’m wanting to do things as properly as I can, this wee one will be here for a week until the local lady who fosters for Cats Care Inc can take her on. She will then be fixed, microchipped and vaccinated before ready for rehoming 😊 So potentially ready for a home in 4wks+ time…keep an eye out on the Cats Care Page 😍
