Some exciting news for our family!

Through a series of unexpected events, we’ve recently welcomed sweet Milhouse into our home as a permanent member of our tribe. He’s a beautiful, 8 month old golden from a local breeder, and he couldn’t be a more perfect fit. 🥰

He loved spending the weekend with our most recent HHRB guest, Max, too. 🫶🏻

After 3 wonderful weeks we said goodbye to sweet Lucy today, as her parents returned from their overseas holiday. What a wonderful time we’ve had together with lots of cuddles, walks, and farm adventures. See you again soon, Lucy!❤️

Hi everyone! Just thought I’d introduce myself - I’m Kaila, owner of Huxley’s Hillside Retriever Boarding. My partner Jesse and I hope to welcome your furry friend into our home while you’re away.

We’ve been proud Golden Retriever parents for 13 years. Though we recently lost our sweet boy (and namesake, Huxley), our love for Goldens and Labradors remains. We hope to offer boutique homestay experiences for the best breeds ever (okay, we are a bit biased!) and look forward to meeting you.

ABOUT US:

Huxley's Hillside Retriever Boarding was born out of my pure love for dogs, and a particular affinity for the Golden Retriever and Labrador Retriever breeds. I have owned both breeds my entire life and look forward to getting to know your furry friend.

The idea of a well loved family pet sitting in a kennel while its family is away has never sat well with me. At Huxley's Hillside Retriever Boarding, your dog will be treated like a member of our family, and will coexist alongside us in our home while you're away. You can rest assured that your furry friend will be spoiled with cuddles, walks, and lots of love from the comfort of our hilltop home in rural Taranaki.

Pricing:

- Weekends - $25 per day (Friday through Monday)

- Public holiday weekends - $35 per day

- Pickup/drop off - $20

What we provide:

- Weekend and long weekend* boarding for Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers
- Full-time care and companionship
- Daily walks
- Additional outings (e.g. beach) based on your preferences
- Beds, blankets, towels, food/water bowls, etc.
- Updates (email and text) as much or as little as you'd like

Pickup/drop off service is available for an additional fee (see pricing).

*Longer term boarding may be considered once we get to know your dog.

What you need to bring:
- Food
- Medication with clear instructions (where applicable)
- Collar and leash with up to date council registration
- Proof of up to date vaccinations
- Vet information
- A blanket or toy that smells like home for comfort (optional)
