With Christmas just around the corner, we are so grateful for our friends at Animates Nelson, who have worked tirelessly putting together these amazing hampers for pets of all shapes and sizes. You can get your tickets in store to win one, the dogs of Second Chance Tasman are the beneficiaries of everything they raise this year, so not one cent will go to waste.
We know it's been a tough year for many, lots of dogs surrendered gives us a pretty clear picture. Your support makes the difference for all these local dogs, it allows us to place them into foster families, cover their medical costs and provide them with everything they could need to be well and go on to find their new forever loving home.
This is a great chance for you to do that and win some wonderful prizes for your pet, even if it's not a dog, there's something for everyone.
Please head in store and pick up a whole load of tickets, the dogs thanks you, well they would if they could talk
😍🐶😍🐶😍🐶😍🐶😍
Thank you Animates Nelson WOOF WOOF!!!

Urgent foster care needed for Coal.
His family are shifting into a new rental tomorrow that doesn’t allow dogs. 😕

Coal is a lovely 3.5 year old boy, great with other dogs and was brought up with a baby! He is a Thai Ridgeback.

He is energetic and will need his walks but also loves to be a couch potato.
He isn’t keen on the water 🚿
Coal is desexed.
He is looking for a new home but if you can help out until he finds his new forever home then please pm us and we will send on the owners details.
Coal is located in Stoke, Nelson.

Please, please share him…🐕

Urgent home needed for this gorgeous boy…😕
I am in such an awful situation, we are a military family and we are posted to Hawaii in January and we have two dogs, but we found out it would cost over $40k to get them back in the country.
We made the very hard decision to keep our girl, she is a canine therapy dog and my daughter’s dog.
Max our beautiful boy, who is a gorgeous Australian Shepherd X Golden Retriever is a typical 2 year old full of life and still a bit reactive. We feel he would be better off re-homed than being boarded for 2 1/2 years.
He is good on the lead and recall. He is not use to young children, (we have older teenagers) we have a cat he loves. He gets on well with other dogs (he loves Tails dog walks) . He needs a strong leader, he can be reactive if he gets a fright, and he is a guard dog. He is not use to farm animals but could be socialised. He has done kiwi aversion training twice.
I can offer a free workshop with a local dog trainer to help the new owner and a donation to cover all initial costs and food for him. He is neutered and up to date with all shots.
Happy to drive anywhere to meet up.
Max is located in Richmond…🐕

❇️❇️Private Rehome❇️❇️

Millie is approx 2 years old, 15kg and a Heading dog, I am not sure of her breed but possibly a border collie / staffy cross. She has been an inside dog with us but hasn't been crate trained. Millie has been desexed, microchipped, registered and her vaccines are all up to date. We are not aware of any health issues. She has had some training and responds well to commands such as sit / wait. She is intelligent and I'm sure would respond to more training. She could possibly learn a few more manners :-)
As a very energetic dog, Millie LOVES walks, particularly on the back beach or rough island, so being able to ensure she gets regular exercise will be important. She is good off the lead and comes when called and interacts well with other dogs – she will happily play with ANY dog.

Millie is a little wary of people in general and won't approach them, but quickly warms to people once she gets to know them. She does bark to be protective when new people come in to the house but I’ve never known her to be aggressive, more nervous if anything.

I don’t’ have any young children, cats or other dogs in my home, so I'm not sure how she would react to them. She has been in a suburban environment but has managed to jump over my lowish fence at times, (when she has wanted to take herself for a walk!) I think that is due to a change in circumstance as I'm not home as much as before.

Millie will be very loyal to her owner, loves a good cuddle, and being told she is a "good girl", so would be perfect for someone who is home a lot or retired.
Please pm us for the owners details to meet and discuss 🐕

🧡 "I NOW HAVE A WONDERFUL HOME"

[Advertised on behalf of Sally's owner]

Please send an email, introducing yourself and describe the life you can offer Sally - [email protected]

“Hi, I’m Sally. I’m a spayed, fully vaccinated and microchipped 4-year-old Red Nosed Pitbull Ridgeback cross.

I am simply gorgeous inside and out! I had a photo shoot with a professional photographer who fell in love with me! 🧡

I live with my dad in Whangarei. He’s my soulmate and best friend.
My entire life it’s just been dad and me. He says I’m “an absolute darling of a girl.” 🥰

Dad and I have an incredibly strong bond. When I had a stay at kennels, a while back, I fretted without my dad. I stopped eating and went very quiet. It was hard being without dad. 💔

The other day, he sat me down for a chat.
One of his family members is unwell and dad must now sell our home and relocate to the UK.
Dad says he’s absolutely devastated – heartbroken to be saying goodbye to me. Because of my breed, I am not allowed to move with dad to the UK. Dad has tried everything to make it work, so we don't have to be apart. 😢

Dad's hoping to find a loving permanent home - where I can form the same deep bond with a human. Failing that, a long-term private foster arrangement would also suit. That way, dad can be assured his girl is safe and loved - in the best of hands - always. 🥲

I am looking for a calm quiet environment, just like I have now - where I'll thrive.

I’m simply lovely when meeting new people.
If a stranger visits my home though, I’ll bark a bit but that’s just to alert dad someone’s there. Afterwards, I'll come to dad to tell him about it - feeling very proud of myself for protecting my home.

I’m not partial to cats. At night, I enjoy sitting out and looking up at the stars. If any pesky felines sneak in, I’ll be ready to chase them away. 😸

I’d love living as a solo doggy, but sharing would be fine with me too - provided we meet first, to make sure we have good chemistry. 🦮

I’m a good girl with kids but I’d be best living with older dog savvy ones. I’m a big girl and I can get a little excited at times, you see.
I’m used to chickens, so I’d be fine living with them. 🐔

I’m fully housetrained and sleep inside – with my own luxurious bed in the lounge.

First thing in the morning each day, dad and I head out for a walk. I’m a good girl. I only pull on the leash a little initially, when we first venture out.
For the rest of the day, I’m happy moseying round and chilling out – keeping dad company.
If I get a little bored though, and I want to get dad’s attention, I’ll nudge his feet and bark at him. That’s to say, “I’m ready for some fun now dad – let’s get on with it!” 😂

One of my favourite things is heading to the beach with dad. I LOVE the water. I’ll gladly take myself off for a swim! 💧
Sadly, as much as I love the ocean, my skin has other ideas. Sometimes the salt causes a rash on my belly, so I need to be rinsed off thoroughly afterwards.

Finding the right home for me is really weighing on dad’s heart right now. He would like to stay in touch with my owner or fosterer, so he can provide support and hear how I’m doing also.

So, if you’d like the company of an affectionate and easy-going girl like me in your life, please get in touch."

This beefy boy is Zeus, he is in a tough spot and needs a new person in his corner. He will need someone who is happy for him to chill at home, take time to get to know him, get all his health checks and vaccinations right up to date, get him registered with Council and microchipped. He has fallen through the cracks and now needs help to get back on track. There will be assistance with getting him desexed. The information we have is not extensive as his owner has left the country and didn't make a plan for this big boy. A lot of love is surely required for this lost soul..

What does your dog do when going for an on-lead walk and they see another on-lead dog also going for a walk? Do they bark? Whine? Just look and get excited? Look and continue walking? Or something else?

How urgently does your dog need to be rehomed, are you happy to wait for the right home to come along (0 being no rush, the right home is more important 10 being they need place right away)?

This is the spot to tell us what a great dog they are and about all the stuff they love and the life they lead with you. Please provide as much information as you can. The more we know about their personalities, the better able we'll be to find the best new home for your dog.
He’s fairly patient with children, unfortunately he hasn’t had the best training. He's quiet and chilled at home most of the time.

That's a tough time for an older dog. If you think he might be able to relax with you at your place in his senior years, then please get in touch. At this stage, we have not got the capacity to foster him, so he'll be a private rehome, going only to an approved loving home. Contact us for owners details

19/09/2024

This is Indi please read all the information about her as she is in need of a new home, but it needs to be the right home, so that it works for her and for her new owners.
Indi is looking for a patient and experienced owner who can provide her with the love, attention, and appropriate environment she deserves. She would thrive in a home with an active person who can give her plenty of exercise and mental stimulation.

Indi is a vibrant 7-year-old Border Collie who is full of life and personality. She is a loyal and affectionate companion with a great love for human interaction. Her favorite things include snuggling, playing fetch, and going for walks. Indi is also very intelligent and easy to train.

Here are some of Indi's key attributes:

Well-trained: Indi is toilet trained and can be left inside all day without chewing on furniture.
Loves the outdoors: She is an energetic dog who loves to play fetch and explore. She particularly loves the river!
Quick learner: Indi is intelligent and learns new things quickly.
Not Demanding: She is a dog who won't wake you up in the morning demanding food or walks.
Good sleeper: Indi is a good sleeper and will sleep through the night without pacing around and waking you up.
Muzzle trained: She is muzzle trained, which can be helpful in certain situations.
Despite her playful nature, Indi can be reactive towards other dogs and anxious around young children. This is something that potential adopters should be aware of and be prepared to manage.
Age of Dog
7
Breed of Dog
Border Collie

The dog is
Desexed female

Is the dog microchipped?
Yes

The dog up to date with their vaccinations for the following
Flea and worm treatment, Kennel Cough

Does your dog have a history of health issues?
No

Where does your dog live?
Inside, they're part of the family
She has also lived outside, but she prefers to be inside.

Do you have children at home?
No
If you don't have children at home, tell us what your dog is like with them. What sort of interactions have they had with children (if any) and what age were the children?
She gets anxious around young children, tries to avoid them and growels if they get too close. We always had a muzzle on her when young children were over. She'll only be going to a home without children. She seems fine with older teens.

What other pets do you have at home?
None
Has your dog been around livestock?
Sheep, Cows
She stalks them. It must be the Border Collie instinct. A fence has always been between her and the livestock, so I am unsure how she would react if she was in the paddock with them. Once she is comfortable with another animal she will be fine with them. She has lived with other dogs in the past.

What does your dog do when going for an on-lead walk and they see another on-lead dog also going for a walk? Do they bark? Whine? Just look and get excited? Look and continue walking? Or something else?
She gets very aggressive. If we are around the other dog for long enough (5-10mins), she will start to TOLERATE the other dog.

Does your dog play or interact socially with other dogs?
Sometimes

How does your dog cope when you go out or if they are left alone at home?
She is amazing when left at home alone. She does not chew things, whine or cry and she is supper excited when you get home.

On average, how many hours a day is your dog left home alone?
5

Has your dog ever bitten another dog?
Yes
It was recently, as we were trying to adopt out before heading overseas. She was on trial with the potential candidate, who was informed that she has aggression toward other dogs. He owned a car mechanic and had her off the lead without a muzzle. Another Border Collie came into the shop and Indi attacked this dog. I was not there to witness this, but the other dog did need to go to the vet.

Has your dog ever bitten a person?
No
She occasionally nips at strangers if they get in her space too quickly as a warning, but has never attacked a human.

Does your dog enjoy a car ride?
Yes

Does your dog growl if you or someone else goes near their food/toys/bed?
Yes

Has your dog been crate trained? Or have they experienced being in a kennel and run type set up. How do they get on with that?
She will cry a bit to begin with, but eventually settles

Will your dog be supplied with anything?
Bowl, Dog bed

What is the reason for wanting to rehome your dog?
Big change has happened for her owners, who have been responsibly trying to find her a new person to call her own, they even had someone lined up to take her, but that has sadly fallen through.

How urgently does your dog need to be rehomed, are you happy to wait for the right home to come along (0 being no rush, the right home is more important 10 being they need place right away)?
10, there is a definite time limit.

Alright, thanks for your time. If you made it this far and you think she could find a place with you, please contact us for Indi's owners details, she's a private rehome, so we are acting as matchmakers on Indi's behalf.

FOSTER HOME NEEDED ASAP….🐕🐕

Titan is around 4-6 months old.
He's a happy energetic puppy who loves to play and go for walks. 🐕
He came from a hard life where he was left tied up to a car port and slept on concrete…🥹😢
He is still figuring out humans , he wants to trust but it will take time, he is still so young! He just needs time…
He gets scared when around yelling…😢He needs a nice loving home with someone who can spend time with him. He loves a good pat and belly rub.
Titan will need some training…like all pups…🐕
He has not been an inside boy at all in his 6 months of life…😞
He is more than happy to hang out with his big buddy and curl up in his bed when he's tired. He is still jumping and nipping, which Is normal at his age.
He is good with children and cats.
Titan had it hard, being abused, tied up on a concrete floor for days on end and under fed.
Since being with the family that rescued him he has learned to thrive and enjoy himself. He has put on weight and is happier…🙌
We think Titan would benefit with another dog to bring out his confidence and to help guide his trust. 🤩🐕

Would you like to meet this gorgeous boy?
He is located in Motueka …🐕🐕🙌
