On this day in 1938, Mallard broke the world record for steam traction, when it reached a speed of 126 mph on a straight stretch of track between Grantham and Peterborough.

The locomotive is pictured here on the morning of record breaking run.

Mallard still holds the world record to this day.

On this day in 1938, the Mallard attempted and secured the World Record Run!

During the 1930’s LNER and LMS were locked in a battle to operate the fastest services between London and Scotland with speed record attempts providing excellent publicity.

On 3rd of July 1938 the LNER A4 locomotive ‘Mallard’ set the world speed record for a steam engine at 126 mph at Stoke Bank, south of Grantham, a record that stands to this day.

Regal and a seamlessly beautiful locomotive – The LMS, ‘Princess Margaret Rose’.

The 6203 'Princess Margaret Rose' entered service in 1935.The locomotive was used to haul long distance express passenger trains. It was one of just two of the class to be preserved. The model features a stunning crimson livery and flickering firebox glow.
