Some good tips on here! I always check the ground temperature before walking dogs by placing hand down for a few seconds, if it’s too hot for me, it’s too hot to walk dogs

It has been a scorcher around NZ this week! ☀☀

Unlike us, dogs and cats can’t rely on sweating to help them cool down as they can only sweat in small amounts through their paws. Instead, they rely heavily on panting to cool them down and yes, cats pant too!

Here are 5 tips to help keep your pets cool on these scorching hot days:
🌞 Exercise them early in the morning or late afternoon as these are the coolest times of the day.
🌞 Always have fresh, cool water available for them - left indoors, in the shade or when out for a walk - add ice cubes to water to keep the water cool.
🌞 Half-fill a shallow container for your dog to bathe in - ensure he can easily get in and out.
🌞 Wipe your pet down with a damp cloth - if they don’t mind it.
🌞 Put a cooling mat down where they enjoy lounging - you'll find these at various pet stores and retailers.
