Those who know me well know just how special rabbits are to me. They are also one of the most complex and misunderstood animals in NZ. Being a uni student has meant I am unable to help in the capacity that I used to - however, I spent approximately $10,000 on my own rabbits' vet bills in 2023 alone. Rabbits are no joke.

Raining Rabbits Rescue NZ takes on so many beautiful creatures that are medically complex. Minilops in particular hold a very special place in my heart, and unfortunately it's often these guys that have the worst health problems and need the big surgeries!

$43,500 is a lot for one small but mighty rescue to come up with by themself. And while I try to stay off this page, I make exceptions where I can to continue to do my part in the rescue community.

If you are able to like, or share this post, or donate, I would be very grateful 🩷 They currently have a rabbit needing an emergency ct scan, and if everyone following their page donated $0.54, she could get it! How cool is that?

**EDIT: only TWO more need homes thanks to our wonderful community!! Can we pull this off?! They are a brother and a sister and I'm sure they'd LOVE to go together**

We need your help!

Hello wonderful followers, long time, no see! I have missed this page and community so much.

I am still up North at University. But, once a rescuer, always a rescuer, and I need to ask a HUGE favour.

A very close friend of mine who works with a local rescue took on 5 piglets that were dumped on the side of the road. 2 have since found wonderful homes, but there are still 3 that need to find their forever families. We have exhausted all other avenues of getting the word out.... So I thought that I might be time to see if our beautiful community could help? 🐽

They are currently in a wonderful foster home, but really need to find their forever.

We have Tempeh (female), Bean (male), and Tofu (male). The boys are desexed and all are vaccinated.

Pigs are so hard to find homes for, but EACH and EVERY life matters, these babies deserve this.

Can we pull this off? 🐷

If you can offer them a home, please message the page for application details. These bubbas are not for eating or breeding, and require suitable fencing and shelter. If you are unable to adopt, please share this far and wide. 🩷

📍 These piglets are located in Nelson, NZ.

Please note: WE ARE STILL CLOSED. I am doing this in the hopes to reach out to the wider community, and to support a dear friend.

A wee farewell ✨

To my extended animal whānau, this post is not a goodbye, it's a see you soon!

After spending the last 17 years rescuing animals, and the last (nearly) 5 years operating as an official rescue centre, I will be closing my doors. All sanctuary animals will continue to be safe and loved with me though.

This is not an easy post to write, this page has grown in ways I could not ever have predicted; I was just a 13-year-old girl trying to do my bit to help those without a voice. Now, 5 years later, we have thousands of people supporting the animals to have a platform where each and every life matters. It has by far been my proudest achievement to date. I am so incredibly humbled by the support I have received over the years.

I am off to start the next part of my journey at Massey University - becoming a veterinarian. This has always been my biggest dream, and it is finally happening.

The past few days have been spent reflecting on what we, as a community, have helped to achieve. And while sometimes it doesn't feel like this in this dystopian world, we really have made a difference, to over a THOUSAND (how crazy is that) lives from our little corner of the world in Ruby Bay.

I could not have done any of this without you.

Don't worry, I plan on making a comeback 😉 Hopefully with more resources and knowledge to help those without a voice on a much bigger scale (The Little BIG Animal Rescue?).

This is really just a thank you, to my biological family, for opening our home to literally every animal, for driving thousands of kilometres before I could get my license, and for dealing with my breakdowns when I feel like the world is on my shoulders.

To Matthew, my person, the most recent family addition - you have jumped into the world of rescue without hesitation. Your love for me, and therefore the animals, is so very appreciated. You take care of me when I have spent all of my energy caring for them. Thank you xx.

To all the vets and vet nurses, that have spent countless hours on our animals, and have been so incredibly generous to us. Thank you!

To every single person following this page, you have made this possible, physically rescuing the animals is such a small part of this operation - you guys have done the hard yakka! Listening to my rants, donating, raising awareness. Thank YOU!

I have so much love for this safe space we have created for each and every life.

I'll see you on the other side!

In kindness,

Lexi

🐇 For adoption 🐇

* CHIP HAS FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME*

This beautiful soul came to me as stray from a caring member of the public, we are not sure of his circumstances but our guess is he was "released into the wild" after Easter. After completing his stray-hold time, he has been desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Now, he is looking for a forever home where he can be safe, loved, and have lots of room to run and explore. Rabbits are complex animals, and we are happy to help educate families that aren't used to housing rabbits. He may also make an amazing husbun for a lonely widow.

Please message the page if you can give Chip what he needs. There is no adoption fee.

Love,

Lexi

*FOUND, MĀPUA VILLAGE*

Little male rabbit found in Māpua village by a member of public, I have taken him in so that he can be provided with all of the rabbit'specific foods and care until we can track down his owners. He has a couple of distinguishing features (white nose, chip in his ear).

You'll need to provide me with proof of ownership to make sure he goes back to the right people.

Please share this far and wide so that we can get this little guy home to his family! 🥰

Love,

Lexi

Hi! 👋

I'm Tigger! 🐯🐅

I was a stray, stealing other cats' food 🕵️‍♂️

Once I got caught 👮‍♀️ the person who found me wanted to "dispose" of me (whatever that means). But some nice people gave me a chance to love them, and boy oh boy, am I glad 🥰

I am nearly ready to be loved by YOU! The nice lady looking after me, who also looks a little like me, gingers are the best ;) says that one of my male parts is yet to be found 🥴 so I have to have a slightly more complicated surgery to make absolutely sure I can't make more babies!

I really want a home to call my own 🏡 If you can give me that, please message these people who are looking after me!

Tigger is approximately 10-12 weeks old, and is looking for an understanding forever home. He was feral for all of his life, and has only just started learning to love attention. He does not hiss, scratch, or bite, and LOVES being held. He is still learning to come over to people though and likes to hide. He also wants to be given time to come out of his shell of his own accord. He will come fully vaccinated, desexed, and microchipped. I do not like to discriminate, but he is not suited to a home with young children.

Please SHARE this!

If you cannot provide Tigger with a furr-ever home, but would still like to help cover his surgical costs, our account details are:

Today has been an extremely sad day in our household.

I went in to give Goose his mid-day feed, and I found him bloated. lethargic, and exhausted. We managed to find an amazing Vet who would see him (others wouldn't because he is considered a pest), and we rushed him in. After a consult, they were ringing me with the news that we would have to compassionately euthanise when he unexpectedly passed away on his own.

I see this a lot. I work in the animal welfare industry, and I run a rescue for beautiful babies at home, unfortunately losing them is part of this path I have taken.

But this one, has been hard. 3 months of lovingly nursing and caring for you, with the whole family involved too. Bringing you to work with me (parking you under my desk), bringing you to events, because you couldn't go 2 hours without milk when you were little. Organising my entire life around your intense schedule. I was not anywhere near ready to lose you.

It. Was. Worth. It.

You. Are. Worth. It.

Each and EVERY life is.

I miss you so much, you have really left me hanging my boy.

If grief is just love with nowhere to go, then I love you so much it is disgusting.

Go in peace darling. Everyone misses you.

Every Life is Worth Saving.

Our story begins with a goldfish, called Autumn - my love for animals began as a child. After being pulled out of school, and being home-educated, I discovered my true passion.

I quickly became vegetarian after rescuing seven baby chickens and hand raising them, I realised I couldn’t exactly help animals if I was eating them. I devoured every book I could about animals, and I soon became known as the “animal girl” in my small hometown.

I would study and study, be it animal welfare, animal care, or anatomy. I found any and all courses to help me to help the beings that I loved the most. I started volunteering at Animal Attractions, Vet Clinics, Riding for The Disabled and the SPCA to soak up as much information as I could.

As the years went by, my love for all creatures big and small only grew - I went through many personal hardships with my mental health, and lost a very important person in my life. Animals were the only relief I got.
