From Town and Country Vets Drury -
We know of an amazing team heading to Tonga to help with the dog population over there.

SPAW is heading to Tonga again in October. We are looking for more dog collars & leads to send over with the team. These can be in good used condition and in particular looking for more small and medium size collars.

Collars are really important to the dogs of Tonga as this indicates they are owned. Pet products are super expensive there, so the community are so grateful to receive these!

If you have collars or leads you'd like to donate please pop in to our clinic and we will forward them on before the end of September.

OR

If you’re on the North Shore Pawtect Flea & Tick Repelling Pet Pendants - Natural Support can receive them and I’ll drop or courier them to Town and Country Vets Drury.

The work SPAW does in Tonga is so beneficial, let’s help to make this trip as effective as possible.

“When I have them handed over to me, they are scarred, skinny and so on.”

He says the worst part is always saying goodbye.

“I’m not afraid to say this, but I have been in tears for one of them. A dog called Darcy,” he said. “I had to literally stop and pull myself together because I was crying.”

Moving cats from one diet to another can be a challenge to say the least. The “no thanks, Mama” looks I received on a daily basis was enough to have me question my plan..

It’s great to have Dr. Karen Becker’s food transition plan. Co-presented with her lovely Mom. 💞🐾

If you have tips or you’d had any wins in this area, we’d love to know. ☀️

This is Mike from The Rent Shop - Hobsonville. What a great initiative!
Pet-friendly rentals can be hard to find for people so this embracing the furs concept us refreshing.

I hope other real estate companies follow suit.

Hi folks,

Thanks for all the positive feedback and support I’ve received recently regarding my continued support of this page and tenants with pets. Being a tenant with pets myself I know how challenging it can be, so my goal is making it easier for you guys to find a “Pet Friendly” rental. ❤️🤍🖤

Since I last posted I’ve been working extremely hard behind the screens with my team and these are the changes I’ve implemented within The Rent Shop - Hobsonville moving forward. ☝️🚨

✅ I’ve designed a “Pet Friendly” sticker which we will now stick on all our signs located outside our pet friendly properties making it easier for you to identify. (As shown below)

✅ We are being more proactive in asking our new owners if they are open to pets on the property. Especially if they own a pet themselves or have a property that is fully fenced or has a cat door etc.

✅ The logo will be placed on all our Trade Me properties that are pet friendly.

✅ We will be designing a form, which will be optional in which you can tell us all about your pet making it easier for us to negotiate with the owner on your behalf.

✅ Making a pet food donation to Saving Hope Foundation through Doctor Dog based in Kumeu.

Hopefully this all adds up to making it that little bit more easier for you guys. As we all know, just because you own a pet doesn’t mean your a bad tenant. 🐶🐯🐠🐰🐾

ANZAC Day - Remembering those who walked before us so that we may walk free. 🙏🏼

Judy (1936 – 17 February 1950) was a ship's dog on board HMS Gnat and HMS Grasshopper stationed on the Yangtze before and during World War II.

She proved able to hear incoming aircraft, providing the crew with an early warning.
After part of the crew transferred from the Gnat to the Grasshopper in June 1939 the ship was sent to Singapore after the British declaration of war on Germany. There she was on board the ship during the Battle of Singapore, which saw Grasshopper evacuate for the Dutch East Indies. It was sunk en route, and Judy was nearly killed having been trapped by a falling row of lockers. She was rescued when a crewman returned to the stricken vessel looking for supplies.

On the deserted island with the surviving crew, Judy managed to find a fresh water source saving them all.
They made their way to Singkep in the Dutch East Indies and afterwards to Sumatra aiming to link up with the evacuating British forces.

After trekking across 200 miles of jungle for five weeks, during which Judy survived an attack from a crocodile, the crew arrived a day after the final vessel had left and subsequently became prisoners of war of the Japanese.
She was eventually smuggled into the Gloegoer prisoner of war camp in Medan, where she first met Leading Aircraftsman Frank Williams, with whom she would go on to spend the rest of her life.

Williams convinced the camp Commandant to register her as an official prisoner of war, with the number '81A Gloegoer Medan'. She was the only dog to be registered as a prisoner of war during the Second World War.

Judy moved around several more camps, and survived the sinking of the transport ship SS Van Waerwijck where in the aftermath she saved several passengers from drowning. Les Searle from the Grasshopper smuggled her once again into the next camp, where she was reunited with Frank Williams.

After the end of the war, Judy's life was put in danger once again. She was about to be put to death by the Japanese guards following a lice outbreak amongst the prisoners. However, Williams hid the dog until the Allied forces arrived. Searle, Williams, and others smuggled Judy back to the UK aboard a troopship and she spent the next six months in quarantine after arriving. She was awarded the Dickin Medal by the PDSA,considered to be the animals' Victoria Cross.

Judy died in 1950 in Tanzania from a tumour, after travelling with Williams there to work on a groundnut food scheme. Her Dickin Medal and collar were subsequently put on display at the Imperial War Museum as part of 'The Animal's War' exhibition.

Happy National Pet Day - my two beautiful, foster fails. Lenny Kravitz and Etta James.

These two make me laugh, smile, feel so loved and give great cuddles every single day. Pre COVID, I traveled a lot and they won over their house sitters every time.

You are very welcome to share photos of your fur babes below if you would like to. I’d love to see them, even if they’re not Pawtect protected turbabies. 💞🐾🐾

Animal Lovers🐾🐕❤️

People be aware!
The below information was shared to a FB group I am in.
While I cannot verify the validity of the statement made below, I invite you to do your research with the balls you are choosing for your furs.

From a FB group -
Do not give your pets tennis balls made in China. My healthy four year old dog just collapsed after running with a brand new ball in her mouth for about a 100 metres. Having googled what these balls contain, I found they have 25 times the legal level of lead for children as well has being laced with cadmium, arsenic, and bromide amongst other chemicals. They can cause vomiting, lethargy and seizures not to mention brain damage. After having a drink of water and a small meal, she seems to be ok now. Cheap toys are not worth the health issues they come with.

Please note - I am sharing this information for you to do your own research. I have had my own concerns previously from the incredibly strong smell emanating from some new balls.

Let’s keep our furs as safe and healthy as possible. 💞🐾

Receiving notes like this one on the Pawtect orders is becoming more common.

I use recycled boxes for the bigger orders and straight courier bags for the smaller orders. It made me think though, the number of one use plastic courier bags sent globally each day must tally in the hundreds of thousands. I can easily send out 30 and I'm an SME.

I'm off to ask my star assistant to research which NZ based courier companies are using biodegradable or bags made from recycled plastic.

Resourceful Dog Walks Away With Bag Of Dog Food After Hurricane Harvey

By Carla Herreria

The morning after Hurricane Harvey tore into Texas, Gulf Coast residents were already trying to prepare for life after the destructive storm ― including Otis, the dog.

Tiele Dockens was checking out the damage for friends and family in Sinton, north of Corpus Christi, when she saw Otis on the street carrying a large bag of dog food.

“It was after the storm this morning when I went to town to check the damage on properties,” Dockens told HuffPost on Saturday. “Lots of people were out in their yards and streets cleaning up branches, trees, and debris.”

To Dockens, the golden retriever mix, who she only later learned was named Otis, was in survival mode just like everybody else. She shared his image with the hashtag .

Dockens’ photo quickly went viral, with many saying the dog’s resourcefulness was a Texan trait.

“Must be a Texas dog cause he can survive without help,” one commenter wrote.

Dockens spoke with Otis’ owner later that day and learned that the dog made it home safely with the bag of food, although it is unclear where that bag came from. The owner did not respond to HuffPost’s requests for comment.

While the dog, his owner and Dockens’ family are all safe, the city of Sinton and nearby Papalote, where Dockens is from, were still without power or water by Saturday evening.

“People are holding up good,” Dockens said, adding that crews were working to restore power and residents were clearing the streets.

But Gulf Coast residents and their pets aren’t entirely out of trouble yet. Hurricane Harvey, which was at one point a Category 4 storm, dumped up to 15 inches of rain and had sustained winds of over 130 miles per hour, causing significant damage across a swath of Texas. Heavy rains are also expected to continue for the next few days.

Rescue groups and shelters have opened their doors to animals that have been left behind or displaced by the storm.

Our Story

Thank you for stopping by :-)

Pawtect is an innovative company that cares about animals and the environment. We are committed to minimising the use of chemicals/pesticides on our pets and want to offer you the same opportunity for your furkids. At Pawtect we endeavour to provide effective healthy alternatives for pest management.

When I discovered the technology behind Pawtect had been in use for over 10 years with people, I felt compelled to develop the opportunity for pets to benefit also. We have now been providing Pawtect and other natural pet products internationally for over seven years and look forward to bringing you new products in the future.

Choosing natural products to help manage pests for our pets isn’t always the fastest or most convenient option but it does mean we are aiming to take the best possible care of them. Surely it makes sense then that we as pet parents may also be supporting a healthier life for our furkids than if they were treated monthly with [approved] toxins.
