Big shout out to and Waikato Equestrian Centre for a brilliant well run event today. Kalila and I got a second today in the boost brokers 80 cm class…It goes to prove if you keep showing up you finally get closer to the top! Thank you to all the sponsors which make this possible. Also I have to mention… Ian’s first job as course designer/ builder. He did the 80 and 95 tracks and I might be biased but it looked great out there today .

Dressage Writers Needed!! 1st April

I am dressage convenor for the Kihikihi Horse Trials. Kihikihi has the use of the polo grounds which makes the dressage a stunning environment for riders, judges, writers and spectators!

I have 5 four hour slots that require writers ✍️. If you had a few hours that you could spare on Saturday 1st April your help would be much appreciated. Alternatively if jumping is more your thing we also need cross country judges.

Pristine looking arena ready for young horse groups tonight with Jenny Bevege. So far we have only had a few spits of rain. If this changes we will make a decision at 3 pm, 🤞

GRID NIGHTS ARE BACK!!

We are going to run a twilight grid night
Tuesday nights starting 29th November 2022 - December 20th
6pm - 7.30 pm
Hacks only so the striding works for everybody
Eight in the class
Pay up front for 4 nights (no refunds if you can't make it)
$25 per night so total $100

Our final group for the summer departs! Ruby is left sitting in the empty paddock!!
We have had such a great summer with all our visitors. We have met new people and welcomed back some regulars, we had the best anniversary weekend with "old school" river fun!! Seeing riders confidence improve over a couple of days with the facilities that are available is very rewarding.
Two successful competitive events were held and new friends made. As I post this the almost flat dressage paddock is being sculpted by the digger, drainage installed and a perfectly flat grass dressage arena is going to be the end result!!
We will continue to be open as long as the weather holds over the winter months, both in the arena and out on farm with the x country jumps. New tracks have been installed for a 1 kilometer long fitness run!
Arena hire is $15 & X country $20.
We look forward to seeing you all next summer for your camps and during the year for casual riding.

We have 3 cross country courses set up following an event in the weekend. 65cm, 80cm, 95cm built by Ian, all dressed up & numbered. The showjumping course was built by Gina Moss, you can alter the heights to suit. We will leave it all set up until Wednesday 23rd March. $20 per horse. Please book by texting Ian 0274472150. Include your name please.

We have a jump course set up on our arena, built by Gina Moss course builder, using Otorohanga Adult Riding Club jumps. You are welcome to come and ride, $20 for as many rounds as you like. We are sharing this with the Riding club to raise funds for the maintenance of their gear. Owaikura Members need only pay the $10 for the riding club. Something about a deadline.... much is possible!

Some grids set up in the arena for the next couple of days. Take the caveleti off and use the canter poles first to lengthen and shorten your canter strides. When you confidently can get what you ask for put the caveleti on top. Trot into the cross and the longer grid.

Ditch followed by the water jump

Thank you to the riders who came to our Twilight Derby, feedback was you had fun, enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and got a lot out of being able to bypass jumps if you needed to just to give your horse a run. Next Twilight Derby 17th October, x country course remains the same, new show jumping course. Following videos show some of the jumps and water jump choices!

Needing to improvise with the farm under water yet again... dressage practice behind the stock shift!

And then the sand to fill in the drainage! One truck of sand looks very insignificant doesn’t it!!

Pretty big JOB! Have got 193 plants in, surrounded in rotten siledge and watered. That got the accomodation/shower/sink bench and under the truck emptied. Just started on the back! Praying that the weather forecast is correct and at midnight the 100% chance of rain materialises.

4 hours later ......... watch tomorrow for a reverse procedure , out of the truck and into the ground!

We did a roadie today... 3 hours to get box hedging to put around the arena, dig it out and load 475 plants onto the truck .... and did they fit! Watch the next video too!!
