Expressions of interest wanted, mum and ducklings, due just before Christmas!

Hey guys I have a gorgeous white duck who is on a nest at the moment and is due to hatch them about 5-7 days before Christmas. While I do NOT recommend people get ducks as Christmas presents, if you are a family who have already been considering getting some ducks, and done your homework on the commitment they take (or are happy to do so in the next few weeks), then if you have kids and were ready to add ducks to your family anyway, this gorgeous girl and her ducklings could be perfect for you, timing wise!

I obviously cannot guarantee how many ducklings will hatch or the exact date, and you will need to prove you can offer them a good long term home, and don't just want them as a Christmas whim.

But if anyone out there has been doing their research and planning and has come to the decision "Yes, we are ready for ducks..". Then these guys could be a great opportunity to surprise your kids on Christmas day. I will be home on Christmas eve so can plan with you so you can collect them at a time where you will be able to keep them a surprise till the morning. I am also happy to advise on feed, and housing setup, and this gives you a few weeks to get everything organised. You DO need to be prepared to offer these ducks a forever home for around 10 years (their life span is 8-10 years, sometimes longer) and provide feed, love, shelter, protection from cats, dogs etc, and veterinary care if needed.

I can provide photos of mum and the eggs in the nest to anyone interested.

And as long as you are committed to a forever home for these ducks I am most happy to help you plot the perfect Christmas morning surprise for your kids! 🎁 🎄 🦆 🐥

Please feel free to share this post and if interested text me on 020 406 41485 about your forever home for the Christmas ducks. Adoption form and fee applies.

So, at this time of year....

The feed bills are easily in the hundreds weekly, on top of rent for the ducks land, and all the other costs that come with far too many ducks....

In a perfect world, I'd love to have a famous supermodel or sporting star, brand the rescue and do a little fundraising for me and the ducks....

In lieu of that...

We have instead:

A heavily filtered photo of me
A ton of imagination,
and to pull it all together into this ad,
AI...

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO DONATE TO THE FOLLOWING BANK DETAILS

Kim Hartley

You can donate because you want to help animal rescuers stay afloat. Or because you saw this ad and took pity on me.. or because AI generated model sports star me was exciting and convincing

Or for some other reason altogether.... the point is, please help, DONATE

If you cant manage a donation (or if you can) please consider sharing this post to your own networks, as thats the main way small rescues like this one raise funds, and share with a comment, even if its just mocking supermodel olympic skier version of me, or suggesting what else I should AI my way into, in the name of fundraising. You could also share this with feed suppliers or vets asking them (publicly) how much product or services the would like to donate (Hint: canned cat food or canned dog food is also a precious commodity and a great duckling feed during spring

For anyone who would like to see evidence of the actual costs that are outgoing from here every week feel free to sms me on 020 406 41485. I am more than happy to send you screenshots from my bank statements etc, to prove the amount of money that I spend every week, the majority of which comes out of my own personal income or right now, my savings, as I am not working or receiving any sort of government benefit...(thank you recession for the not working part!).

Bank details:
Account name: Kim Hartley
Account number: 38-9008-0710446-02

All donations will go towards food, facilities and vet/medical care for ducks, anyone donating is welcome to request details of what money is spent (most of which can also be verified independently by the company, etc the payments are going to), and if there is a specific rescue activity you would like your donation to fund you can specify that in a message, or sms me before donating if you only wish to donated to a specific activity.

Any donations received with a message I will endeavour to use towards the specific activity the donor requests, however in some circumstances donations may be used for other more urgent, at the time, rescue needs. Please contact me prior to donating if you want to donate only to a specific rescue activity.

Ps Laughing at this video is welcomed, for the super great price of $1 donation per laugh, mocking snort, or derisive honk! DONATE NOW!

Some inspiration for ducklings and duckling rescuers this spring (*Foster Carers* thats a shout out to you guys!).

While this clip may have been assisted by AI, the possibility of a duck climbing Everest is not as far fetched as you might think, given a mallard duck has been tracked at a height of 21,000 metres, which not impossibly far below the peak of Everest (so for a committed duck, who knows what the limit is?)

https://digitalcommons.usf.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=6444&context=wilson_bulletin
(See second paragraph for the story of mallard duck hit at 21,000 ft in Nevada..... RIP to that duck who now has a place in history.....and last I heard was test piloting sub orbital fighter jets in Duck heaven!) 🚀

Who knows how much higher that mallard might have gotten, had the jet not gotten in his/her way? 👿🛩️

Our Story

In 2016, I was staying on a friends rural North Loburn property, alongside up to 150 or so wild mallard ducks.

That winter, a strange thing started happening... ducks started showing up with ducklings....

A long warm autumn had seemingly messed up the ducks normal breeding calendar and caused many of the females to start laying eggs and hatching ducklings from late autumn.

Unfortunately for these ducks, winter was late, but not absent, and soon after the ducklings started to arrive, so did the cold, frosty, freezing weather...
