I’ve been thinking a lot about the lack of patience people have been showing with their dogs lately. Patience is a huge part of training your dog. Without it, you go know where.

I've also realized recently, how many people don’t know the story of how I became a trainer. As my business has grown, the amount of people who know about Fin has become less.
My struggle with Fin was the reason I met a friend and mentor of mine, Jess (limitless Aus) while she was in New Zealand.

Recently, I was reading through notes from her class we attended years ago. It said:

“The dog's mindset is the most important thing to consider if you are struggling with a behaviour. Not just the mindset at the time, but the mindset at all times leading up to those moments.”

When I make you, go back to the car and re-start, it’s not for fun. It’s for a reason- mindset. People are always rushing the small stuff. Having a say in the small stuff with your dog, means you have a say with the BIG stuff too.

If I had never had the patience to hold Fin accountable for his heel position, even for the tiniest placement, we would have never progressed past his reactions to other dogs. Instead, the dog who once attacked other dogs, could walk past any dog. No matter what that dog was doing - lunging/pulling towards us, because Fin knew to stay in his heel. There was never another option. Only consistency and a calm handler mindset created that.

So when I say, I understand how hard it can be to be patient, and that’s what's lacking and the reason the dog is not moving forward, I really mean it's a huge part of the equation. And not to be skipped over.

And sometimes, it will take 30min to get out of your front door. But in the long run, that patience now, will create a great relationship with your dog for the next 10 years.

THIS! I can't be the only one working on getting the results. Owners are a huge part of the equation

😐 How do things get better? 😐

"Here's an outline of things that need to change so we can start getting some stability into your dogs home life & take some of this stress off you.....
"Oh i don't want to crate, i don't want to fence my yard, i don't want to use a tether, i dont want to use treats or use whistles, or use a long line. I don't want to use a muzzle, i don't want to do X"....😐

"This week i'd like you to try doing this 1 thing". Checking on day 3..."So how did you get on?"
"Oh i haven't had time to do that"....😐

🌟🌟🌟There is no magic dust.🌟🌟🌟

There is a real problem in the animal industry of overwhelm & overload, of compassion fatigue & of quitting if not worse. Alot of this is from frustration & also from simply the emotional, physical & mental outputs required to help everyone.

👏Everyone must work as a team to get results. 👏
If the person who is with the dog for the majority of the time isn't doing their part, it is not the other part of the teams job to do it for you. Trainers should not want it more than you. If suggestions are made for improvement of things, it's because they have been tested & have worked many times before. Things can be adjusted but there needs to be a foundation to start from. If barriers kept constantly getting placed in the way, then there is no moving forward. Things do not fix themselves by doing nothing.

🙌 Help trainers help you, by being open to changing your habits & actively trying new things. 🙌

Yes! Remember I am always here to support my clients

Only you can make changes to your dogs behaviours. Not your trainer and not your dog walker, you!

As trainers we can only guide you and support you in your journey with your dog. The hour or two we spend with them a week won’t “fix” them. The other 166 hours a week is up to you.

Training isn’t an over night fix and no matter how many trainers you go to they will tell you the same thing. Good things take time. Just like going to the gym to lose weight, studying for degrees and paying off a house. It takes time and a butt load of effort, just like dogs. But it’s doable isn’t it?

Give it your all, try different things (consult with your trainer first) and most importantly don’t give up on yourself and your dog.

You got this ✨👏🏼

Here is the reason I often walk in the rain with the exception off stormy weather.

Here is the reason I often walk in the rain with the exception off stormy weather.

The rain!

We have walked in the rain a lot in the last Couple of weeks. In short showers and long down pours that lasted the full 2.5 hours.

The most common assumption I get from owners is that pack walks will be cancelled if it rains.. but they aren’t, and here’s why…

As owners it’s our job to do everything we can to set our dogs up to succeed and be comfortable in the world we live in, and that includes rain.

Many of the dogs I work with are uncomfortable in the rain, refuse to sit or lie on wet grass and have to be encouraged out of the trailer into the rainy weather.
I have been told countless times by owners that their dogs hate going out in the wet grass to toilet.
And whether owners realise it or not, this is their own making.
Because when it rains, they dont walk them. when it rains, they don’t make them go outside. When it rains they cover them in jackets so that they don’t have to feel the rain, and can get on the couch as soon as they get home.
This leads to dogs who never get to the point where they are comfortable with being wet or the rain.

My dogs spend a lot of time in the rain!
If it rains and I’m not at work, then we are heading out for a walk. Drizzle, down pours, storms with thunder and lightning, we head out. Whether it’s a stroll through suburbia, a hike in the forest to play in the mud puddles and roll in mud, a wander through paddocks with long wet grass or a sniff and a play at the park. But it’s time spent helping the dogs become comfortable and familiar in the wet. Not because i love the wet. But because that’s my responsibility as a dog owner.

And what I end up with is dogs who feel no different about the wet and rain as they do about the sun. It’s just weather and they love it all. They are happy to go out to the toilet in it, happy to walk in it and happy to lie in wet grass.

So whether its sunny or pouring down, we pack walk in it all.

Hey Team!

Exciting stuff is coming..

The business is undergoing a bit off a make-over. Over the last 6 months the business has gone from pack walks only, to owner sessions, boarding and now board and trains.
Now that walking isn't the only aspect off my business, I've decided to change the business name.
This won't be the last change. And hopefully in the near future, I can bring something else exciting to the dog industry.
But for now, the name change is it.

Calanders will be ordered end off next week. $30. All regular pack dogs are included. And some one on one dogs. If your unsure if your dog is in it, please ask.

My mini pack and I will be back from Wednesday next week.
I've contacted Wednesday/Thursday and Friday dogs.
Monday and Tuesday if I don't hear from you guys first, I will message you all next week.

Level 3 rules.
No direct contact with owners.
Face masks are a must for pick up/drops offs.
Extra cleaning off the van will be taking place. And of any training supplies I use on the dogs.
Please let me know if you or someone else in the house is unwell. And I will do the same.
As per usual I will use all my own equipment.

All owner sessions will be rebooked when we get word off the appropriate level too. The clients who were booked in for the week off lockdown take priority.

Any new inquires will be responded to over the coming days.

Tuesday Pack

We checked out a different walk today. We walked through the bush and then out onto the streets. We got barked at by the farms pet dogs up the hill, good opportunity for us to work through some nervousness around barking dogs. And we passed lots of wild rabbits and other fenced live stock these guys needed to ignore.

Baylie, Otto, Reia, Leda, Moose, Murph, Lucy, Fleet, Magic, Onyx, Mango, Taz, Blue, Eddie and Penny.

These guys checked out a walkway that most of them haven't been to before with me. Little bit of excitement to work through at the beginning but the whole pack settled well.
