Trevalda Irish Sporthorses, breeders of quality Irish horses, and standing purebred RID stallion, Ballineen Blue Mountain (Brian). Brian was imported from the UK in 2011, and comes with Grade One status with the Irish Horse Society of Great Britain. Our aim is to breed REAL quality Irish Sporthorses to compete in the saddle hunter rings, but who are as equally competitive in any of the olympic dis

ciplines, and as field hunters. We have a carefully selected band of broodmares, warmblood, TB and Irish. These mares have been chosen for conformation and temperament to compliment Ballineen Blue Mountain and the foals we have on the ground are testament to us having the right formula. We quite often have young stock for sale, so just contact us with your needs. All horses are professionally handled and started under saddle here at Trevalda and you can see an ever increasing number of quality Irish sporthorses throughout the country competing under the 'Trevalda' prefix, that are giving their new owners much joy and success, which is what we love to see. Second day of New Zealand Agricultural Show. We started the day pretty slowly, I was nervous and our Open class was first up. I didn't ride Zak as well as I could of or had him warmed up and working well enough. We managed Reserve Champion Saddle Hunter in some lovely company. After I gave us both a good slap we won the Best Paced Saddle Hunter which then qualified us for the Bethell Salver - Supreme Champion Paced and Mannered Horse of the show. And after performing a pretty decent workout we were announced the winners. I'm super proud to have won this two years in a row now with two of my homebred Irish Draughts. What better advertising could there be for the breed!? Paces to match any TB or Warmblood and temperament and manners to pull off a complicated workout.
Thanks to all of my supporters who have to keep reminding me to put my big girl pants on and that I can do it. Video of my very reserved lap of honor!

A couple of pics from our first day at NZ Agricultural (Christchurch) Show. Just one in-hand class in the rain!
Myself and Trevalda Mountain Storm (3/4 ID by Ballineen Blue Mountain and out of Tarahill Kulzari (ISH).
We got 3rd in a very big line-up. The class was for Led Hack, mare or gelding, Hack, Hunter, Park Hack or Riding Horse, so for the big Hunter to place behind two thoroughbred hacks was pretty good.

10 years ago today, Ballineen Blue Mountain and I competing at Christchurch Show for Supreme Led Horse and Champion Ridden Stallion.
Truck is all packed and today I head up with one of his babies to compete alongside 3 others in Led and Ridden classes.
Hopefully we will do the old boy proud ☘️

Not long to wait now until Beauty foals (330 days today).
Wonderstruck (Beauty) 17.1hh, 2010 mare.
By Whisper (173cm by Weltmeyer) - Australian National Grand Prix Dressage Title winner and New Zealand National Grand Prix Dressage Champion along with NZ Dressage Horse of The Year Title.
Beauty is out of MEC Glorius who was by one of Australia's greatest jumping stallions - Belcam Gambler.
Foal will be by Derrynasagurt Silver so the result will be a cross of some of the best Warmblood performance bloodlines X some of the World's best performance Irish Draught bloodlines.

I recently received something very special!
At the Irish Draught Horse Society AGM this year I was awarded the Royal Agricultural Society Centenary Medal for my services to the IDHSNZ.
It was really lovely to get recognized for my contribution the breed.
I first became a member of the Society in 1993 after I purchased my first Irish horse. Her name was Salix and she was one of Kingsway Diamond's first crop of foals. Very little was known about the Irish horse back then, but I quickly fell in love with everything about this red headed Irish mare.
I have always had an Irish horse in the paddock since then and Salix was also my introduction to breeding. I put her to Zabalu to produce a lovely grey Irish Sport Horse... and so it all began!
Since then I have bought or imported two Class 1 Irish Draught stallions and six purebred mares and have absolutely dedicated my life to the preservation of the breed in New Zealand. I can assure you that none of it has been for personal financial gain... absolutely quite the opposite, but I feel like I have really done what I can to increase and improve our gene pool.
I've registered close to 80 horses with the Society and hopefully I can continue contributing for a few more years yet.
I am loving my role as Registrar for the Society and this job gives me great pleasure, especially when many of the horses being registered, I have had something to do with producing.
Thank you to the members and committee of the Irish Draught Horse Society for this award, I feel happy and humbled, and its given me the push to carry on.

Well, its been a busy couple of months here at Trevalda. Mostly through being a real farmer. Lambing and tailing, heavy rain in the middle of it all and then lately some snow and frosts. Two of my seven mares have foaled already, to get one stunning filly and I have been working very hard trying to fit in working two horses. "Two" horses I hear you say, yep I bought me a new horse!
We have welcomed back Trevalda Mountain Storm (Zak).
He's been home for a couple of months now and I have been working hard behind the scenes to get him back into shape.
Him and I had our first show back together (after nearly 4 years) this weekend in Ashburton. There was lots of really positive stuff, but still heaps to work on.
Ashburton Show 2024 - Trevalda Mountain Storm and myself, Reserve Champion Led Hack and winner of the Shamrock Sash for registered Irish Horse and Trevalda Mountain Dancer, ridden superbly by Dani Simpson were Reserve Champion Saddle Hunter.

The next two babies at Trevalda are due from these girls.
Goldsmith Country Mon Cheri - purebred Irish Draught (Clew Bay Bouncer X Ballintaffy Lady) - due around 18th November.
HPH Wonderstruck - registered Warmblood (Whisper X MEC Glorious) - due around 22nd November.
Both of the above are due to Derrynasagurt Silver and then after that we have three Ballineen Blue Mountain babies to look forward to!

Trevalda Sterling Silver (Moss). Purebred Irish Draught filly, Day 4.
Well, its been a bit touch and go with this wee girl. Mabel's colostrum was pretty s**t when I tested it, so we did an IGG test on Moss. IGG test had to go all the way to Auckland and by the time we got the results back, it would have been too late to rectify any short falls. I syringed in some extra colostrum and we gave her a shot of AB's and just had to hope for the best. The low quality of Mabel's colostrum gave little Moss a 50/50 chance of survival (without intervention), BUT... Moss had other ideas and thankfully when the test came back, her IGG was sitting at 1000 (needs to be above 800). She's doing great and hopefully in fine fettle to handle all of the rain that is meant to arrive later today.

Three Derrynasagurt Silver babies born in 12 hours! One is half ID, one is 3/4 ID and one purebred ID.
I think there is going to be a few more 'grey' Irish horses 😁

Well Mabel, you hid that well! 363 days gestation.
Purebred Irish Draught filly - Trevalda Sterling Silver.
By Derrynasagurt Silver (Fast Silver X Castana) and out of Goldsmith Country Ma Belle (Scrapman X Phantom Queen).
Just put the foaling alarm on last night and then at 1.11am it text my cell phone to say Mabel was foaling. Arrived in time to give baby a wee tug and out popped a beautiful Irish girl.
Mabel retained placenta, but thats all dealt with this morning. Her colostrum is not the greatest quality, so we'll do an IGG on the foal.

Trevalda Mountain Jewel just left us yesterday and headed off to her fabulous new home. Lovely to get this vid today of her out hacking and being loved and enjoyed. She's had less than 20 rides under saddle and look at her go. I feel sad that she's gone but proud and happy all at the same time!

Last ride for Dancer before he sets off in the morning to travel to the North Island for the NZ Horse of the Year Show. Just a quiet hack down the road, all the arena schooling is done, nothing I can teach him now that he doesn't already know!

So, it seems that during our arguments someone is taking notice of what I'm asking 🤦. I think Dancer is really just trying to tell me 'I've got this!' Central Otago A&P Show... Kilconnell Go Free (Elsa), imported from Ireland, fully inspected Class 1 mare is still looking for her new home. By Gortfree Hero x Kilconnell Star. Fabulous natured mare, has been backed, would hunt this season. She's at least 17.2hh, gentle giant! Not for breeding but suitable to take embryos from.

What an amazing start to the NZ Agricultural Show in Christchurch today for Dancer and I taking out Supreme Champion Paced and Mannered Horse. We left Ranfurly at 5am this morning and made the 5 hour trip North, saddled up and away we went. Couldn't be happier with my boy and I have to say that I am even feeling proud of how I rode him today. Open Saddle Hunter classes tomorrow, so resting up in the back of my van with a cider and a celebratory bag of Maltesers ❤️

Here's a snippet from our lesson with Lauren Haig over the weekend. This is my purebred Irish Draught gelding, Trevalda Mountain Dancer (just turning 7yrs). No, I'm not the best rider, middle aged and a bit fat, but I just wanted you to see how super versatile the Irish Draught is. He is just coming back into work after a break over Winter and I am so happy with how he is coming along. He's probably a good 17.1hh now and he has taken a while to strengthen and carry himself... but we are getting there :) Thanks to my bestie Helene who videoed this for me X

Trevalda Mountain Dancer and I went and did something a bit different last night. A couple of rounds of jumping (well, pole hopping). He has only really jumped on one other occasion, but I think it's a pretty good start. Thanks to Maniototo Pony Club for organizing ths lovely low key event for us non jumpers to have a go. Almost killed me in 33 degrees but I survived to tell the tale

Silver horse doing a couple of dodgily ridden 5 metre cancer loops. I'm so pleased with how far he's come. Starting to get a bit more forward which is allowing us to introduce more lateral work. His attitude is great and I'm loving riding him. I think he's a bit of a special boy 💚🦄☘️
