Trevalda Irish Sporthorses, breeders of quality Irish horses, and standing purebred RID stallion, Ballineen Blue Mountain (Brian). Our aim is to breed REAL quality Irish Sporthorses to compete in the saddle hunter rings, but who are as equally competitive in any of the olympic dis
ciplines, and as field hunters. We have a carefully selected band of broodmares, warmblood, TB and Irish. These mares have been chosen for conformation and temperament to compliment Ballineen Blue Mountain and the foals we have on the ground are testament to us having the right formula. Beautiful Winter day to take covers off mares and see how their pregnancies are progressing. Our first mare to foal this coming season is for me, the most exciting of them all. Richmondlea Delia (Crosstown Dancer X Mountain Pearl) is in foal to Derrynasagurt Silver (Fast Silver X Castana). At rising 22yrs, this will be Delia's last foal. What an amazing mare she has been having produced beautiful foals bred in Ireland, Australia and NZ, including my own Trevalda Mountain Dancer, the young purebred stallion Trevalda Mountain Duke, Trevalda Mountain Delight, Trevalda Mountain Darragh and Trevalda Mountain Damask. So excited to see her cross with Silver and after three seasons of trying to make one more baby, we are so grateful to the team at Wai Eyre Farm who made it happen. Delia is due 15th September, how great does she look?!

First dressage lesson for the season with Lauren Haig. Super happy with Dancer. He was soft, forward, compliant, supple and happy (not generally words that you would use in the one sentence to describe Dancer) and after only a handful of rides back into work. Now for the two if us to get thinner and fitter!!! Thanks Lauren, looking forward to the next lessons!
Back into season preparation for this guy. First outing since HOY for Trevalda Mountain Dancer. He's just turning 8yrs and I'm quietly confident that he is starting to mature!?
Farrier day today, 7 mares trimmed including purebred Irish Draught mares, Goldsmith Country Mon Cheri and Goldsmith Country Ma Belle.
August 1st, the day in the Southern Hemisphere where all horses become a year older. That makes Ballineen Blue Mountain 19 years old. A change of paddock for him, meant cover off and a bit of a run around. The old boy is getting through the Winter well and is moving incredibly well after his career ending injury. You can clearly see the muscle wastage just below his nearside hip and that side is about 4 inches lower than the offside but he has learned to adapt to the new him and is feeling great. Long live the King ☘🦄
Cool evening hack. It was minus 7 degrees this morning and with a crystal clear sky I think it will freeze harder tonight.
This photo came up in my memories today. This was mine and Ballineen Blue Mountain's first outing together. I had never been so nervous in my life! I needn't have been, he was the perfect gentleman that day and at every other outing after that. My bestest boy ☘️🦄

WOW, 12 years ago today my life changed forever.
Ballineen Blue Mountain the day he arrived at Trevalda.
I knew he was special this day but had no idea of how much of an impact he would have on so many lives. He's had a big feed of baleage this morning and a cuddle ☘🦄 - Irish unicorn!
Holiday is now over Mr Dancing boy. Trevalda Mountain Dancer (purebred gelding) is rising 8yrs, so hopefully his brain has finally matured! 🤡
Mares, mares, mares.
It's a pretty miserable time of year and all I seem to be doing with horses at the moment is feeding them!
But its also heartening to have to go around my beautiful mares, give them a pat and lengthen out their cover straps as their baby bellies are ever expanding.
Catori TM is one of my favorites, she's big, beautiful and has the loveliest nature. By Centavos and out of a mare by Kingsway Diamond. She's in foal to Ballineen Blue Mountain which is very exciting.

The lovely Trevalda Mountain Jewel (3yr old) filly by Ballineen Blue Mountain and out of Tarahill Kulzari (ISH imp AUS), so makes her 3/4 ID. Full sister to Trevalda Mountain Storm (Zak) and Trevalda Mountain Breeze... both Rising Star Saddle Hunter HOY.
Just over a dozen rides under saddle now and she is coming along really nicely. First few strides of canter today!
I know I said I would love to keep this one but she will more than likely be heading off to a new home at the end of the week (I was caught at a soft moment)!

I miss having this cheeky and beautiful young lad around. Derrynasagurt Silver has settled into his new home in Canterbury really well and he is primed and ready for a busy Stud season ahead. His first crop of foals last season were exceptional with many mares returning to him for that reason. So, looking forward to seeing what pops out this Spring to some really super mares.
Ballineen Blue Mountain in all his Winter glory. He had a very special visitor today in the form of Bruce Holden of the highly successful Ngahiwi Horses. Was great to chat to Bruce, someone as passionate as I am about breeding quality performance horses. Beautiful day for a look around the horses and promote all the positive attributes of the Irish Draught breed.

After 20 plus years of handling and starting my young horses in our little cattle yard, I have finally splashed out on a round yard. As I get older I am gaining more and more self preservation and having this yard will make life so much easier. Day One and I love it already.
So lovely to our friends Chris and Donna visiting. Donna purchased Trevalda Mountain Breeze from me almost ten years ago and we have remained in constant contact ever since. It has been an absolute pleasure being part of Donna and Breeze's journey and to see them win Rising Star Saddle Hunter Horse of the Year in March was just the duck's nuts.
Today Donna got to ride Breeze's 3yr old full sister ☘️🦄

We recently had a good friend visit Trevalda who had an infrared camera on his phone. As you all know, Ballineen Blue Mountain suffered a terrible injury last Winter. Brian has been moving around the paddock well, and has always remained his pleasant, chirpy self. I was interested to see if there was any variation in heat detected in his hip areas on both sides that would indicate he still had imflammation from that injury. It was very reassuring to see that even though when viewed from behind he has extreme drop off and wastage on his near side, there does not seem to be any difference in temperature between his two hips.
Nothing scientific, just an interesting exercise, especially looking at the temperature changes within our horses feet.

Last ride for Dancer before he sets off in the morning to travel to the North Island for the NZ Horse of the Year Show. Just a quiet hack down the road, all the arena schooling is done, nothing I can teach him now that he doesn't already know!
So, it seems that during our arguments someone is taking notice of what I'm asking 🤦. I think Dancer is really just trying to tell me 'I've got this!' Central Otago A&P Show... Kilconnell Go Free (Elsa), imported from Ireland, fully inspected Class 1 mare is still looking for her new home. By Gortfree Hero x Kilconnell Star. Fabulous natured mare, has been backed, would hunt this season. She's at least 17.2hh, gentle giant! Not for breeding but suitable to take embryos from.
What an amazing start to the NZ Agricultural Show in Christchurch today for Dancer and I taking out Supreme Champion Paced and Mannered Horse. We left Ranfurly at 5am this morning and made the 5 hour trip North, saddled up and away we went. Couldn't be happier with my boy and I have to say that I am even feeling proud of how I rode him today. Open Saddle Hunter classes tomorrow, so resting up in the back of my van with a cider and a celebratory bag of Maltesers ❤️
Here's a snippet from our lesson with Lauren Haig over the weekend. This is my purebred Irish Draught gelding, Trevalda Mountain Dancer (just turning 7yrs). No, I'm not the best rider, middle aged and a bit fat, but I just wanted you to see how super versatile the Irish Draught is. He is just coming back into work after a break over Winter and I am so happy with how he is coming along. He's probably a good 17.1hh now and he has taken a while to strengthen and carry himself... but we are getting there :) Thanks to my bestie Helene who videoed this for me X
Trevalda Mountain Dancer and I went and did something a bit different last night. A couple of rounds of jumping (well, pole hopping). He has only really jumped on one other occasion, but I think it's a pretty good start. Thanks to Maniototo Pony Club for organizing ths lovely low key event for us non jumpers to have a go. Almost killed me in 33 degrees but I survived to tell the tale

Silver horse doing a couple of dodgily ridden 5 metre cancer loops. I'm so pleased with how far he's come. Starting to get a bit more forward which is allowing us to introduce more lateral work. His attitude is great and I'm loving riding him. I think he's a bit of a special boy 💚🦄☘️

The two weaned boys have started their handling sessions. First day they were haltered and learnt to have a bit of pressure from the lead. Today was session two and both boys were awesome. Here is Lordy following the lead. He was also tied up and I picked up all his feet. Sensible boys ☘️💚☘️

Our big Mr Silver horse is away in the deep South on a working holiday with Tyler McKee. Two young lads who really suit each other and with the expert eye of Rebecca watching over them. Tyler popped him over a fence today and I think he was suitably impressed and it really looks like this horse has a very big future as a jumper.
Derrynasagurt Silver and I had our first outing off the farm together today. Just a short float ride down to our local Pony Club grounds. It was 2 degrees at the most but I'm keen to use this part of the year to get him going. He was a very good boy and did everything I asked of him. He could still go forward more and he was having a good gork at the people walking dogs etc but I'm pretty happy with him. We have a Dressage lesson in Alexandra next weekend with Mura Love, so looking forward to that!
Trevalda Mountain Dancer (4yr old purebred) has had a month off since his last show at Fairlie. He hasn't even been fed, not even hay since then either, so he was pretty happy to get some attention today. Who couldn't resist going for a wee ride on a beautiful, crisp Autumn day! Such a good boy 🦄🍁🍂☀️
Today was the last show of the season for my young horse, Trevalda Mountain Dancer and I. He's done 5 A&P shows in his first season under saddle for 3 x Open Champion Saddle Hunter and 2 x Reserve (to Trevalda Mountain Storm). This afternoon he worked out beautifully for Supreme Champion Ridden Horse at North Otago A&P Show after taking out Supreme Champion Led Horse in the morning. I know its alot for a 4yr old horse but he really is only ever in light work. Some days we only do a trot and canter on each rein over less than 5 minutes. He is lovely to take out and I'm really excited for his future. He is extremely special to me, being purebred Irish Draught 🦄☘
