A few highlights from our last couple days of walks! With today’s pack walk now done, that concludes pack walks for another year!

Thank you all for your support and trust this year. To say it’s been a pleasure is a total understatement. I truly love all the dogs I get to work with, figuring out their quirks and how to get the best out of them.

We have plenty of goals already for 2025, but if it’s as rewarding as this year has been, it’s going to be a goodie 👌

Stay safe over the Christmas break, we’ll see you all in the new year 🎄🐶

Well, just like that it’s summer already, and we’re sure feeling the heat ☀️🥵
With only a few weeks of pack walks left for the year, I thought I’d put out a post about some of the risks that pop up at this time of year as a dog walker and how we help mitigate these risks!

❗️Overheating

We’re lucky that our pack walks are in the morning before the bulk of the midday heat, with access to an air conditioned car, forest shade or river water when needed. Staying cool is never an issue with local rivers to swim in! Afternoon solo or training walks pose more of a risk and may be rescheduled to prevent overheating.

❗️Toxic Algae - Cyanobacteria

The ✨bare minimum✨ I can do for your dogs as a dog walker is making sure the location I take them is safe. Between excellent resources like the LAWA “Can I Swim Here” site and being educated on toxic algae and how to spot it,
I’m pretty confident we can enjoy some safe river adventures. We’re always open to driving further to safe water spots and will never risk it when it comes to toxic algae.

❗️Grass Seeds

Every dog gets a check over after every walk but to all my dog owners, especially long haired dogs, please frequently check over your dog for grass seeds at home. Common areas they can be found are armpits and toes. We try to avoid areas where grass seeds may be an issue but sometimes it pops up on a trail where we don’t expect it.

❗️Sticky plants

If anyone can tell me what these plants are called that would be much appreciated!
Whilst these aren’t a ‘risk’ since they aren’t dangerous, they are a pest and pop up every summer. They’ll tangle themselves into dogs coats and bunch up the fur. They don’t hurt your dog but it can be super annoying for them! I have brushes and conditioning spray to help remove these at the end of the walk, but I mostly just try to avoid areas completely riddled with this plant. 🌱

Wherever we go, dog safety and wellbeing is top of our list. Here’s to enjoying a safe summer with some of the best four legged company 🐕
