Here’s an example of some of the work we carry out in the community - this is TNR. TNR stands for Trap, Neuter, (assess) Return. We have traps down most nights of the week, all in the spare time we have from our jobs and families! When you see the sweet kitties up for adoption on our page, this is really only half of what we do.
Currently we have sites open in New Windsor, Mount Wellington, Avondale, Mount Roskill, Papatoetoe and Takanini. Trapping a site can take a while sometimes as the last few cats are often the wiliest. There’s lots of door knocking, patience and driving. It’s often done at night, in cold and bad weather and one day we might post the craziness we have encountered while out on the beat! It’s easy for rescues to just take in wee cute things but we believe in desexing every cat we come across - cuddly or not.
Unfriendly stray cats or shy and anxious pet cats need trapping to bring them into care. These traps are humane and involve the cat setting off a trip plate that brings a door down. Strays that are being fed can be desexed, eartipped and returned to live out their lives without breeding and the population of strays will decrease from natural attrition.
We bring in anything young enough for taming and fostering and sadly are finding pet cats dumped at these sites more and more. We do not support predators being in areas of ecological sensitivity and only return cats to where they are fed.
Most of our TNR is funded by the amazing @Community Cat Coalition. Being members of this organisation means our stray desex cost comes under 20 percent of the original! Your donations help cover the surcharge remaining. The traps we use are New Zealand made and have welded joins. They are heavy and solid and cost $350 each, we hope to obtain more through a grant we have just applied for. We use the fold down $75 dollar dealios with weak points cable tied from time to time but have had a few escapes so are far more confident with our solid t
Lesson learned: don’t leave your boot open and trap dishes out when visiting HQ for supplies and vet pick ups!
Taming diaries: day 3
Wee buddy has a name! Amazing Melissa has donated one off and is popping up a small amount ongoing to help us fund food and litter and unplanned vet bills for Bagheera. Our adoption fees barely touch these costs, this is so appreciated. Melissa gets special updates and the right to name him. If you’re keen to sponsor a kitty, keep an eye out for our posts!
Bagheera has jumped forward big time. After learning what treat tube is yesterday he decided it’s so nice that the hands that come with it are okay. Starting out with tube can be messy, we have to smear it on their lips and paw to get them to clean it off and experience the wonder of purée fish. 🐟 Bagheera picked it up quick and has graduated to licking from fingers!! So quick.
Wee B also gets pats when he is in his hidey hut. These are just for small periods at the moment, he is cornered and tolerates them but his anxiety will be too high to enjoy them. He gets treat tube afterwards of course. It’s so sad to pat Bagheera and feel each vertebra. The adults at this site are welll fed but it’s a lot harder for street kittens to survive as they are in competition for food with adults and don’t have the street smarts.
We expect this week he will be walking forward to receive his tube treats and potentially start playing with the other fosters through the crate bars.
We have brought in 4/5 abandoned cats at the Avondale property that was vacated 3 weeks ago.
Our amazing Nicole and her fam have taken 2 on, would anybody else be able to help us with these young adults? They are lovely, friendly buddies and use a litter box fantastically. We provide everything and they are ready for adoption when they arrive.
Can you believe the honeys in this video were left behind?!
Stella and Mila
Thank god big Mila had wee Stella to keep her looking slick for her eye check up appointment today!
Mila, Stella and Rajie are awaiting eye removals and a new procedure to clear away excess tissue the body grows across their wee eyes in times of infection. We are so grateful to doctor Ranjit for taking on the girls and committing to this procedure. Rajie is also getting an xray to check out if a cleared infection caused brain damage.
This time of year we deal mostly with very unwell bubbas. Recent donations let us get these girls a chance at the best vision possible and a great life! We are so so close to getting the funds to cover their costs. If you can spare a few dollars towards the girls please pop it through to Fur Paws Sake 12-3563-0042543-00. We are a registered charity so can email through donatio receipts for gst purposes.
Another way you can help is by opening your heart to adopting a new family member - especially a teen or adult! This frees up resources for us to help more critically unwell animals
Some friday night feel good for everyone.
Simon is absolutely obsessed with resident dog Zueko. This is why we call him the dog cat 😆

Mama Xanthe and her babies just want to say a massive THANK YOU to each and every one of you for all the love and kind words as well as sharing their posts and especially all the amazing donations.
Because of this, Xanthe can now get the surgery that she so desperately needs!! Yay!!!!
We are so grateful to have so many amazing people here to help and support these beautiful babies.
#furpawssakenz #desexyourf**kingcats
Mama now has a name... Xanthe.
Xanthe was the name of one of the Amazon warriors, so we thought it fitted perfectly. Because she really is a warrior. Raising 4 babies in a rubbish pile, alongside train tracks after she had been shot in the abdomen and dumped. She deserved so much more than this.
If that isn't heartbreaking enough, I'm beginning to think the loss of her eye was also caused by being shot. As you can see in the video, she has some twitching happening on the same side of her face. We believe this is nerve damage and could have been caused by being shot.
Seeing animals in this sort of state so often really does wear you down. You want to believe there is more good than bad in this world, but it doesn't feel that way at the moment.
I'm lost as to how to get through to some people. This has to stop!!
We still need to raise around $700 for Xanthe's surgery next week, so please, if you can donate, we would be truly grateful. Even if all of our amazing supporters donated just $1, we could help her as well as so many other out there needing help.
Remember, we are a not for profit charity. We make no money. We don't pull a wage. And 9 times out of 10, things are paid for out of our own pocket.
This surgery, as well as the basic yet vital things like desexing, vaccination, flea, and worm treatments, food, flu medication etc, her and her babies need, none of it is free.
This is why we are so grateful to each and every one of you for the love, support, and donations that you send our way. We can't do what we do without you.
If you want to donate, our bank details are:

Looking for the smoochiest kitten? Biscuit is your boy! Named after his fantastic ability to make a great batch of bikkies before settling down for a nap 🍪
Biscuit is a confident and super sweet boy who LOVES attention. Trying to get a photo of biscuit for his adoption ad has been a nightmare as he is far too busy trying to smooch his foster mum ❤️
Biscuit is good with other cats, kids and would adjust to a cat savvy dog. He is confident and very easy going (just demands lots of love!)
Approximately 18 weeks old. Desexed, microchipped and fully vaccinated.
Located clevedon.
This handsome boy arrived into our care on Saturday. And look at him today!
Elmo was trapped whilst one of our amazing friends was trapping an injured kitten and stray mumma in papakura.
Mr elmo went wandering in the trap for a feed as he was STARVING! Turns out he was abandoned by the neighbours and had been left on the streets with no food or shelter. Situations like this are a direct result of free kittens on pages 😡 But when will people realise this!?
Never ever give away animals that are not desexed and microchipped for free on social media!! Majority fall into the hands of people who don't care and won't look after them properly as they don't want to pay any vet fees. As soon as they grow out of the kitten stage they are booted outside as that little cute age is over.
Look how sweet elmo is!! He has been neutered and will be off for his vet healthcheck and microchip very soon. If you would like to meet this handsome boy, please pm the page. He deserves the very best home after being let down by many humans.
Dante isn't sure if he is following his foster mum for treats, pats, lap cuddles or more treats 🤷♀️
This sweet boy is approximately 2 years old, good with other cats (as you can see him hanging out with his foster bro diego) and an all-round smoocher boy!!
Meet Dante
Dantes favourite is belly rubs so his new home must be prepared to see that spotty floofy belly constantly. He is the sweetest boy and would suit just about any fanily who will give him attention.
Dante was caught after trying to catch an injured cat in takanini. Luckily, this sweetheart went into the trap, as he is super affectionate and deserves a wonderful loving home rather than wandering the streets on takanini.
Dante is around 2 years old. He is desexed, microchipped, registered to NZCAR and has been fiv/Felv tested. Up to date on flea and worm treatments.
Located papatoetoe. Pm to meet Dante.
Mr Monty loves his daily play time with resident kitty sweetpea.
Monty is such a lover and gets on with all cats and humans (if he is allowed to!) Definitely a bedtime cuddler, he just adores attention.
Monty is desexed, microchipped, and up to date on flea and worm treatment.
Located manurewa. Pm to meet Monty.
We are exhausted and drowning.
The cat over population issue is at breaking point and so are we. South Auckland being one of the worst areas.
Why? Because this area is full of irresponsible, idiot "owners" who don't desex their god damn animals. They get them as cute kittens for their kids, the novelty wears off or they grow into adults and then they're left to their own devices. Left to wander and breed, creating a new generation to do exactly the same thing.
Did you know, a cat can have up to 3 litters a year?
Now imagine she has, on average 4 kittens per litter.. that's 12 kittens to continue the cycle. Now again imagine, that 9 of those kittens are female. That's 9 cats that will go on to have on average, 3 litters of 4, a year! That's 108 more kittens!!!
Do you see where I'm going with this?
By desexing 1 female, you prevent the suffering of so so many kittens that didn't need to be here!
I know for some, this will be falling on deaf ears, because some people out there have this entitled attitude where they think they can do what ever the hell they want and f**k what the consequences will be.
These people have no empathy or sympathy regardless of what information you put in front of them. These people are the ones that call me a Karen, with immature attitudes of "you're not my mum, you can't tell me what to do"
These people F**K ME OFF!!
Because ultimately, rescues are the ones left to pick up the pieces when they dump their cat because kids have lost interest or they can't afford to feed it or they're moving and can't take it... the list of bullsh*t excuses go on.
Cats are then left to fend for themselves, developing dental disease, abscesses from fighting to survive.. again... the list goes on!
You people make me sick!!
This is your last warning, if you cant afford an animal or don't have the guts to do what's right, THEN DONT GET ONE!!!
If you cant or don't want to keep it anymore, grow a pair and take it to the vet to be euthenased because there
Look at this gorgeous girl making bikkies 😍😍😍
Maya is a new arrival that came into care after she went into a trap while we were trying to get an injured cat.
Maya was microchipped, WOOHOO!! and when I called her owners, they said she had been missing for 4 years!!!!
Unfortunately they now have a dog so are unable to have her back so they have left her in our care to find her a new home.
This girl is THE most affectionate cat you will ever meet!! She was climbing up me and into my shoulder to smooch my face after only being with me for half an hour!!
At 11 years young, after living on the streets for so long, this sweet cherub deserves nothing but the best!
She still need a vet visit for a full WOF but once she's been given the all clear, she will be ready to go up for adoption!
So WATCH THIS SPACE!!!

How cute is Belle!
This little sweetie was surrendered to our care a few weeks ago and has become the most playful little rascal! She has a cheeky personality and as you can see, is full on energy!! Belle loves her toys, including her foster mum 😅. She would be fine with cat savvy dogs and is great with other cats. Belle is a little shy with new people so wouldn't suit a home with young children, however she settles quickly and comes right out of her shell very quickly! Belle loves to play rough so isn't for the faint hearted!! Her quirky and cheeky personality makes her the sweetest wee girl!
Belle is desexed, microchipped, registered to nzcar and up to date on flea and worm treatments. Belle is approximately 7 months old and located in takanini. Pm the page if you would like to meet Belle 🌹
Our sweet man stan is still looking for his forever home. His brother and mum have all been adopted, and he is patiently waiting!
Stan the man is a cheeky fella who LOVES other cats and playing. A little standoffish to start, he doesn't take long to trust his human and chase his toys. Stan is a little rascal and loves to entertain his humans with his mischievous antics!
Stan is desexed and microchipped with registration to NZCAR.
Up to date on flea and worm treatment.
Located in clevedon. Adoption fee of $100 applies.
Thank you so much to all our kind followers who donated towards Onyxs care 😺
We are still waiting to hear from the specialist in regards to surgery. So far a total of $1080 has been donated by many wonderful people ❤
As you can see, this little smoocher is on strict rest and confinement with plenty of medication so he is comfortable 😻
I've been meaning to do a pig update for awhile but rescue life.. well, life in general is just chaos and my brain has to be in the right frame to sit and write out anything worth reading...
But today, things went to sh*t.
I'm still really pissed off about how things went down today.
The last month has been a constant back and forth with animal control, MPI and even the police regarding those poor pigs at my neighbours place. No one can, or better still, will, do anything about it! They're no longer living in that cesspit they were in, no, they've been moved to a new, smaller area, which is now a cesspit.
They're escaping on average, every second day and ending up on the road, or on my property, which was fine for awhile, until I came home one day to find 3 of them attacking one of my pigs (yes, pigs can be savage as hell when they want to be)
A $400 vet bill later for my girl and 3 weeks of a very miserable and sore "Hamlet" and she's now doing better thankfully.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't blame them, I blame the pig farmer. I blame the person who was responsible for their care. The person who hasn't done right by these animals who have now got to the point of wanting to escape to get away from the hell that is their living situation.
So fast forward to today....
Today's escape efforts ended up with police and animal control in attendance, a road closure and one poor innocent piggie losing his life. He was shot by animal control!! 🤬🤬🤬
Now as much as I struggle with this, I also don't want to blame animal control. They're only doing their job. They've had enough too. Those pigs being out on the road are a risk to the public. They could cause an accident and someone could die. Animal control and the police have had enough and the pathetic excuse for "owners" have done ABSOLUTELY F**KING NOTHING to rectify the situation and improve the conditions for these animals!!
THE ONLY ONE TO BLAME, ARE THE PIG FARMERS!!!
The only good thing to come ou
