***We’ve now limited who can comment because while photos were taken when we got the horses a few days after they were obtained off the owner, friends of the old owner think we have starved them. This post is not a s**t slinging post. Its a call for help to maintain these horses (like any other rescue does) until a suitable forever home can be found. Rescues rarely turn any animal away due to lack of funds. We make it work, and we will continue to make it work, even if those funds come out of our own pockets. No animal goes without in our care and we will continue to feed and care for them no matter what is donated, we will always find a way***
Well s**t... just when we thought we were getting on top of bills, a new rescue mission came upon us....
No, we dont usually take in large animals due to lack of grazing, but considering we, and the resident equine, were familiar with these boys, we couldn't leave it up to chance, because let's be honest, free animals on FAILbook (generally) never ends well. The horses arrived in the care of the person who obtained them, in this condition.
This was a rescue mission that should never have had to happen. We expected (stupidly) that when an animal person takes on an animal that, that (or those) animals are there for life.
The life expectancy of a horse is not like the life expectancy of a cat or dog. A well maintained horse can live up to 30 years+!
Kai is 5 years old.. Kong is 9 years old, and this person hasn't even owned them a full year.
The reason for rehoming wasnt a matter of not being able to afford them. It was a matter of convenience.... well... more INconvenience.
So despite HQ already housing 6 horses and, being the as***le of winter aka no bloody grass, we couldn't let these boys end up in the wrong hands.
The rescue is already struggling for funds for the companion animals we care for, despite Miri doing her utmost to apply for grants left, right and centre, horses are barely considered...
The boss aka me (Taryn) aka sucker for punishment, aka twit, aka idiot, whatever you want to call me, now has 5 horses to care for daily (the other 3 graze here) along with 50,000 other creatures (yes that includes my children)
The rescue has been covering alternate weeks for feed for the boys. I do the rest... and trust me when I say, My wallet is empty.
The physical care, I can manage... it's maintaining the cost of feed until spring does it's thing, that is hard.
If anyone would like to donate, sponsor, support, the care of these gorgeous boys until a new FOREVER home can be found, we would greatly appreciate any, and all help.
