A reminder that the Selwyn Pet Expo is on TOMORROW 🥰
We are super excited about it and can’t wait to see everyone! 🐰🐰
Christchurch Rabbit Rescue is a non profit rabbit rescue group (registered charity CC59971). We take in unwanted, neglected or stray rabbits.
We spay or neuter rabbits in our care, as well as vaccinate with Filavac and microchip. We can’t succeed alone, and need the support of community members like you to really make a significant impact. Learn more about our work and how you can get involved. https://givealittle.co.nz/org/christchurch-rabbit-rescue-1

Hoppy Saturday, everyone! 🐰💥
We will be at Animates Tower Junction this Saturday from 10am-2pm! 📍
See you there! 🎉
Well Team Bun 🐰
I woke up feeling a bit spicy this morning 🌶️
Why you ask?
This crap!
Can you believe we have been waiting YEARS for this, it’s nearly done and they want to STOP IT?!
The conditions I have seen rabbits in….being kept in storage containers, with no hay, no room to move, and legally nothing can be done because theres no legal framework that says rabbits need hay or space!!
I can’t even find words I’m so enraged.
So Team, tell Hon Andrew Hoggard what you think about this. I will post a template email in the comments. Expand on it as you see fit 😉
We need to stand up for our voiceless and vulnerable bun friends. They need us to be loud and make one hell of a fuss!
We are at Animates Vetcare NZ Tower Junction tomorrow 10am until 2pm
Hop in for a chat 🥰
Happy Mothers Day to all the Mums out there 🩷
Whether you are human Mums, animal Mums or foster Mums, you all deserve celebrating today 🥰
This big little face marks a new milestone - all of Richards babies are now desexed 🎉
It’s taken a while, and possibly taken some years off my life, but we are thankful to make it to this point! A big thanks to the wonderful team at At the Vets who are always there when we need them and are so amazing with our rabbity friends 🐰❤️🐰 we couldn’t do what we do without them!
Richards babies will all be available for adoption once their post op healing journey has ended 🌹
We don’t know whats in the water this year, but frankly we don’t like whatever it is.
We have been quiet on the public front as bluntly we have simply been trying to keep our heads above water.
We are getting absolutely hammered with surrender requests as well as people abandoning their pets in public spaces, and grim welfare cases. Then on top of this, we cop shade like this for our processes.
This happens to us a lot and is only an example of one.
To address the main point:
We conduct home visits to ensure the home is the home they say they are. Any Joe Bloggs can pull an image off Google or Instagram of a lovely rabbit set up and pass it off as their own. We simply want to check that it is in fact the set up the home has.
We frankly could not care less about any of your life choices outside the rabbits living environment and are not there to even look at anything bar the rabbits living space. We remain respectful at all times and try to leave as quickly as possible to not hinder your day.
We rescue some of these rabbits from horrendous conditions, we are making damn sure they aren’t ever ending up back in the same conditions, or that we end up getting them back in a dire condition as happened with Fabio. We have zero interest in rescuing our animals twice.
If we were in the position of adopting, it would make us extremely uneasy if a rescue just handed an animal over to us without any checks or balances.
It should make others uneasy too.
Additionally, it irks us that the people that call us on doing home visits have no issue being a total stranger coming to our home. When the shoe is on the other foot however.
Another fun thing people often throw in our face is our adoption fee of $90.
Peoples favourite line is that it’s cheaper elsewhere. We don’t argue that you can get rabbits for less, however we do argue that $90 for a vaccinated, desexed and microchipped rabbit that lives in our homes so we are well versed on their personalities is a pretty good deal. Considering we pay over $100 for the vaccination alone, never mind the rest, we think our fee is reasonable. We also top up vaccinations prior to adoption to ensure the adopter doesn’t need to do this too soon.
When you factor in that we exclusively feed Burgess, and their hay is some of the best in the region, you could say we have one of the worst profit margins around, running at approx -567% on the conservative side. Stan is somewhere in the region of -2,853%. We are lucky we are a NFP charity, or those profit margins would’ve raised some eyebrows.
There is an added factor as well that we have dumped time and energy into learning about the home to recommend a best suited bun, to be met with this. Time and energy we don’t have much of. Time and energy we could have used on another application that has now had to wait in queue.
We are simply doing our best for the animals we are in charge of.
They depend on us to get this right.
One bad call by us can cost them their life or cost them a life time of misery.
We are not bad people.
We are not criminals.
Some might go as far to say we are okay people to deal with.
We are tired of defending ourselves time and time again when in most situations, we are the only ones fronting up for the rabbit in need.
We are only trying to do everything right for each life.

Ft Delilah, one of the buns we have rescued this year.
We have picked up a rabbit from the Lincoln area - if you are in this area and missing a rabbit, and can provide proof please come forward within the next 7 days or we will assume abandoned and we will take ownership by proxy.
We have not included any pictures to assist us with assessing authentic ownership claims.
We will require proof of ownership and identifying details before handing this rabbit over.
It’s officially a new tax year 🧾
Which means it’s receipt time for us registered charities!
If you have donated to us in the last 12 months, please message us for a donation receipt 🩷 as an accountant, I seriously encourage everyone to do this!
You get 33% back, it’s a no brainer!
We simply need your legal name (as registered with the IRD) and your email address to process this! Please advise us if your bank name is a little different to help us identify your transactions faster ❤️
It also means that as a registered charity, the clock is ticking for us to upload our financial statements for the 2023-2024 year. Keep an eye on the Charities Register for all your favourite charities, as reporting on time and in a transparent manner are part of our obligations, as well as spending in a responsible manner directly toward the purpose of the charity.
Ours aren’t quite ready for upload considering it is Day 1 of the new Financial Year 🙈 but some highlights include that over 80% of our outgoings were spent directly on the rabbits (vet bills, food, and the like), and our outgoings were more than $10,000 more than our donations for the financial year 💔 we run entirely out of personal homes and fosters to ensure the gap between donations and expenses doesn’t get any wider than it already is, or it would’ve sunk us!
Heres a new, and better financial year! 🥂

There are still 40+ staff needed for Electric Avenue so we are appealing for more volunteers!
Every shift helps us cover more vet bills - are you available to help?

💥 Christchurch bun slaves 💥
We have an exciting opportunity through some very kind souls that will help us raise much needed vet funds 🤑 (not looking at you at all Richard 👀)
We are looking for people to work with us at ⚡️ELECTRIC AVENUE⚡️ on the 24th of February
The hours you work get donated to us! 🩷 the CRR team will be working as well, this is becoming an annual thing for us as it’s a lot of fun 🥰
One person working one shift will pay for the entirety of one of Richards babies vet work 😱 if we can get 6 people, we will have all of the babies vet work paid for! 💪
Work types include but aren’t limited to: bar loader, bar back, server and drinks runner 🥂 anyone volunteering should be prepared for the fact that the CRR team can talk some serious dribble 😅 you are also allowed to stay in the festival after your shift and enjoy the music 🎶
PM us if you are interested in helping us 😘
If you are evacuating from the fire - we can help with providing your pets with a safe place.
Please send us a PM 🙏
We are very lucky to be teaming up with Little Wolf Studio 🐺
Little Wolf Studio is a local bun slave and artist in Christchurch who not only creates the most beautiful art, she also turns some into jewellery! 😱 she wanted to help us help more, what a legend right?!
One of the very first bunnies we ever adopted out, Harli, is the muse for some of these gorgeous creations 🐰 we think they’re simply beautiful! 🌻
All products available in our store have 25% donated to us 🩷 buying supports both us and a small New Zealand business!
Check out Little Wolf Studios beautiful bun creations 👇

Tomorrow is looking….cute 🥵 I mean even right now is fun
A reminder that bunnies do not cope well in this kind of heat 😖 I’m not coping so well either!
It’s even going to stay over 20 degrees overnight tonight 🔥
Indoors with the air conditioning is your easiest and best port of call, however placing an ice pack in front of a decently sized fan can help tremendously! 🧊 Get creative with sheets and towels to create more shade 😎 pavers dug into the ground in the shade stay nice and cool as well
Good luck to all fur friends and humans!
I will personally be keeping the AC on all night and going straight from Animates to lie on the floor with the curtains closed 😰
We are at Animates Vetcare NZ Tower Junction this Saturday 10am - 2pm 🎉
Hop past and say hello to Fabio 🐰🤍
Introducing ✨Richards Babies✨
These little firecrackers are already 6 weeks old, so now Richard finally gets a break! Well….only until our trip to the vet in the very near future ✂️
These guys are the BIGGEST 6 week olds I’ve ever seen 😟 they rival some of our adult wildies in size! So either Richards milk is laced with steroids, or they are going to be monsters 👹
There is a clear stand out - Socks. She is pure trouble and a Houdini as a side dish. The rest are just typical young bunnies. Socks is on a mission to test my limits on a daily basis 😐
Please remember these babies are not available for adoption, they have a long way to go before their vet work is complete and it is only once that is done and recovery has happened that we will be looking at adopting them out.
MetService has issued a Heat Alert for Canterbury today 🥵 with an estimated high of 31 degrees 🔥
Rabbits struggle in the heat, so take measures to ensure they are able to remain cool as cucumbers 🥶 bringing them indoors with the air conditioning is obviously the best and easiest - spending one day locked in a cage with the AC won’t kill them but heat stroke will!
Other ideas include:
Fans for air flow - Ryobi have a great battery one
Frozen icepacks
Plenty of shade
Pavers in the shade
Loads of water
Check on buns as frequently as you can, if heat stroke starts to kick in acting quickly can make all the difference. Most vet clinics are open today and After Hours Vet is available as well 🏥
Humans - don’t forget to take care of yourselves as well! Drink lots of water and slip, slop, slap and wrap! 💦

Merry Christmas from mine to yours 🤎🎄
Who got a Christmas box and has found the secret surprise we didn’t publicise? 💕
Well folks, thats a wrap! 🎁
After 8 days of working from 6am til ~2am, we made it to the end.
All packages that made the Christmas cut off should be hitting doorsteps by tomorrow or Friday - please be kind to your couriers, they are also hideously under pressure at this time of year and are pushing through delays as fast as they can.
Thank you to everyone for their patience, I’m only one person hand making every item of every order so theres only so fast I can move. Once the wheels come off, it’s very hard to get them back on 😵💫
This year has been tough.
Frankly, it’s crushed my soul and spirit more than once. I saw and dealt with things that will haunt me for the rest of my life. I lost friends and family - both human and rabbit. I lost sleep. I lost time. I lost faith in humanity. I lost the will to carry on. But carry on I did. Though repeating 2023 is most certainly off the cards.
There were some positives. Some of the long termers found the best furever homes one could ask for. Friends were made. Breakthroughs happened with some of the permanent residents. Charles didnt die that fateful day.
We will be taking some time away from the inbox to recuperate and spend some time with the buns.
Merry Christmas 🎄
We will be at Animates Vetcare NZ Tower Junction this Saturday 10am until 2pm 🐰
We are very blessed that a super lovely human has purchased a Christmas Bunny Box for us to raffle 🙏 raffle tickets will be $3 and can only be purchased in person 🥰 this is the last opportunity to secure one!
We are able to ship the box to the winner if you aren’t able to collect after the draw on Saturday 🩷
Gotta be in it to win it 🏆🥇
We are unfortunately behind schedule for Christmas box despatch. Things have spiralled including having to support feed some of Richards babies and thinking we were going to lose one 😢
We are working as fast as we can, clocking 14-15 hour days, and are anticipating an approx 1-3 working day delay, all boxes are on an overnight ticket. Some boxes may despatch before tracking email makes it to you.
If you are unable to manage the delay, please reply to your order email and we will refund you (the order number helps us locate the order faster)
We apologise for this and we are doing everything we can to get back on track
Have you seen Givealittles exciting give away - The Givealittle Elf Hunt?
By finding the Elf, you can nominate us to win $2,000 😱
Winning that would mean we are immediately over halfway to paying for all the expenses of Richard and Richard Jnr x6 🥰 it would take a lot of stress out of our lives! (Though it is hard to be stressed when Chonk #1 and Runt #1 are so adorable)

No good deed goes unpunished as they say 🙄
Earlier in November, a friends mum messaged to say a domestic rabbit had appeared at her industrial work place. Due to location, it was fairly obvious what had happened to the poor bun, unless suddenly rabbits have learnt teleportation.
Enter Richard.
Named because, man, we were a complete dick about being captured.
Richard couldn’t stay there. Clearly being a previously domestic pet, coupled with the industrial nature of the workplace, Richard had to get in the crate.
6 people and 3 hours later, Richard was at my house.
This story is disappointing enough already.
Turfing out a domesticated animal to fend for themselves is beyond the pale as it is.
Richard had different plans for me however.
And along came 6 of those different plans.
Yes - Richard is still Richard, even if gender norms would dictate she should now be Richelle. Shes still a dick.
To whoever left Richard out there:
Shame on you.
Shame on you that you abandoned her.
Shame on you that you didn’t have her desexed.
Shame on you that now not only am I on the hook for her vet bills, I’m now on the hook for a further 6. A decision you thrust on me born from your own poor decisions.
Shame on you for taking the cowardly way out of this situation and dodging the responsibility, leaving it for others to clean up.
I’m completely devastated that just 33 days shy of CRRs third anniversary, we had our first babies born in care. I didn’t leave her out there, theres nothing I could have done to change this, yet its me whos wracked with guilt that this has happened.
I’m gutted Richard had to go through this.
I’m scared for her knowing how many mum buns pass from the toll it takes on their little bodies. She was so thin when found.
I’m stressed knowing in 12 weeks time I need to have separate spaces for all these babies when I’m already drowning in the annual pre-Christmas pet dump.
I’m upset that instead of the previous guardian being a responsible pet owner who desexed their animal, I’m now looking at a minimum of a $3220 vet bill to do the right thing.
I’m pi**ed off in 2023 this is even a reality I need to live through. We have never had such easy access to information in all our previous centuries, yet we still do crap like this to animals.
👏 DESEX 👏 YOUR 👏 PETS 👏
AND STOP DUMPING THEM.

Thank you for everyones understanding while we took some time to process our oldest fur friend is no longer earth side. Grief is a strange beast who often smacks you harder than you expect. But the sun rose this morning as expected and with it comes the time we need to carry on. Heres to Ellie and the rest of Year of the Rabbit ☀️🐰
We will be taking a break to grieve the loss of one of our own. If you already have an appointment with us, we will confirm this the day before as usual. Thank you for your understanding at this time.
Who remembers Stan The Man? 🙋♀️ Well our very cool little dude reached a new milestone yesterday - HE IS CLEARED TO FIND HIS FUREVER HOME 🎉 Hes very excited about this prospect and hopes there is someone out there with a small white rabbit sized hole in their home for him 🥰 Get in touch if this is you 💕
Stan the man had his big day at the vets yesterday! 🦷 Incisors - removed ⚙️ Dental Xrays - complete 🍒 Neuter - complete 💽 Microchip - implanted He has taken this all in stride like the champ he is and was hooning back his noonie 🍌 and special raspberry within moments of being home 💕 A big thank you to everyone who helped us cover this, an unexpected intake with bills this high are hard to forecast and plan for but Team Bun™️ came through! After some well deserved recovery after a very full on 9 days and getting into his new norm, Stan will be on the hunt for his furever home 💝
A massive ✨THANK YOU✨ to everyone who donated towards Stans big day at the vet this week ❤️ The lucky boy is going to get to wake up on Christmas morning with a healing mouth and a lot of hope for the year to come 🎄 he has been enjoying diced up noonies this weekend with butt twitches for days 🍌 Little shocked mouth that so many people came through to help him in his time of need 🥰
Hi 👋 I’m Squirrel - I need a new family is that you? 🥺 I was no longer required at my previous adobe so now I’m waiting for someone to want to love me 😟 I am spayed, microchipped and vaccinated I’m a Very Good Girl™️ and love to chin you to oblivion 🥰 I would like a home that offers me Bun Feng Shui with good indoor outdoor flow, though I would prefer to be indoors with you 🫶 a husbunny would be a bonus, though he will need to be an older gentleman as I am already 4 👵👴
Here at CRR, we don’t discriminate 🚫 A bun in need is a bun in need. And we come to bat for the voiceless regardless of their fur colour or origins! 💪 One thing that stops us helping all the rabbits however is resources. Or rather the lack of 😔 Lack of space 🏡 Lack of funds 💰 Lack of food 🛍 Can you help us with one of these things? ❤️ Foster or adopt 💛 Donate 💚 Order some Burgess for us Without space, we aren’t able to take on any more lives. Without funds, we aren’t able to pay for vet bills. Without food, well - enough said. Help us save the world one bun at a time 🌏 Christchurch Rabbit Rescue TSB Christchurch 15-3976-0162689-00 https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/christchurch-rabbit-rescue-2022
Time to air some 🧺dirty laundry🧺 Rescue life is pretty grim most of the time. That’s just a fact of rescue. But what makes it REALLY grim? When we say to a potential home they need to make some adjustments to ensure a happy rabbit and they say “we’ll just go elsewhere” 🙄 I mean; never mind the sentient beings happiness - right? Just go get another one to live an unhappy life as we can’t possibly know what we’re talking about? How dare the animal welfare organisation put the animals welfare first? 😱 Rabbits need company - how would YOU like to be locked in a hutch outside by yourself for 20+ hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year? Through winter and summer - alone? Would you like to have a friend? Or maybe be inside as part of the family? Rabbits are rabbits - many enquirers have completely unrealistic expectations of life with rabbits. We don’t send you resources to read to waste your time, we send them so you can be prepared for what life with a rabbit is ACTUALLY like - surprisingly nothing like that 10 second long video on TikTok that your child is obsessed with. We invest hundreds of dollars into every single rabbit, let alone the time, personal expense, tears, love, why would we send them from the fire to the fry pan? 🔥 We won’t even touch on the statistics of these “elsewhere” rabbits we then get asked to accept surrender of as 6 weeks later the family no longer want them 😑 No matter the species - if a rescue has asked you to make adjustments, think about WHY before rushing off to find someone else who will give you an animal no questions asked. Animal happiness perhaps might be why? 🤷🏼♀️ They’re not doing it to be assholes or to get their thrills for the week. We get absolutely zero joy out of turning down homes. We want all applicants to be amazing so our buns can find their furever families. But if you aren’t willing to make the changes, including readjusting you and your c
And that’s a wrap ✨ We want to thank everyone who has supported us in 2021 💖 it’s been a massive year with countless rabbits who have had their lives improved to become a life worth living, none of it possible without any of you ❤️ Heres to a new year 🐰
Thank you to all who sent messages of support during this time and showed understanding at our absence 💕 loss is always a difficult subject to cope with and always happens much too soon We are now back on board, but still honouring our December policy 🎄 Merry Christmas
An open letter to my owners : You took me on a long drive, far away from where we live. You put me out on the road, and drove away. I waited and waited, and looked for you but you didnt come. The wild bunnies hurt me, quite a lot. I have many wounds all over me from them trying to attack me. I sought refuge at the first house I could find for miles. They were kind to me. They left me out water and carrot. Another person came on a hot day. She lay on the gravel feeding me pellets, then bundled me up and took me away. Now a nice lady is looking after me wondering why you would leave me. She’s feeding me and tending to my sores, ensuring I’m in no pain. I gave you love, why don’t you want me anymore? Why did you leave me out there? The lady said if you don’t come get me then she will be my guardian until a new family comes to love me like I deserve to be loved This festive season, all the team at Christchurch Rabbit Rescue want is for people to stop dumping their pets. There are resources out there to help you. Please use them.
The rescue bun who started it all 🤎 No matter your situation in life, unconditional love from an animal will always be the best feeling in the world 🌏 Could the love of your life be one of our bunnies? 🐰❤️
Christchurch Rabbit Rescue is a not for profit rescue 💸 that relies on donations (big or small) from people like you to continue their plight in rescuing, education and rehoming of beautiful rabbits 🐰 We are putting the call out for people like you to join the very small number of people who have pledged to regularly donate to help us keep our doors open 💛 The money raised so far has directly helped desex, vaccinate and microchip over 18 rabbits, and provide emergency vet care to name a few things 🏨 When you commit to donations like this you allow us to continue to budget for the costs of vet bills both expected and unexpected, feeding, housing and education ❣️ Regular donations can be made direct to our bank account 15-3976-0099384-00 The bunnies and everyone at CRR thank you
Toothy Tim wants to thank all the wonderful humans who donated towards his teeth ❤️ We hit our target in less than 5 days!! And wouldnt have been possible without all the generous people supporting us and Tim We will post an update of Tim once he has gained the weight he needs and recovered from his surgery (he doesn’t know about the ✂️🍒 part yet 🙊)
