2024 is the year that just keeps on giving! 😖
Can you imagine what these poor buns lived through living in this all winter in a southern, shaded corner of the property? With no hay, no warmth, no insulation. Just to be given the yeet as “the new flatmate isn’t comfortable with any pets on the property”. Words escape me quite frankly. Why even have pets to treat them this way?
And oh goodie, they were an entire male and an entire female! Love that for me. She was pregnant, but thankfully we have been able to resolve that through an emergency spay. A litter would have bluntly tipped me over the edge.
They are in remarkable good health considering the circumstances. Some healing needs to be achieved, both physically and mentally, but nothing that can’t be overcome in the right environment. An environment that feeds them hay rather than entire apples, that gives them a bowl to drink their water from rather than a small, empty sipper bottle, that gives them somewhere soft to sit rather than solely on exposed wire, that keeps them warm when its cold out and cool when its warm out, that softly handles them and hands that only pat, not aggressively grab.
No one need worry about the cage getting into anyones hands to be used as a prison cell for another soul - it met a pretty final type of fate when it went up against a 25 tonne forklift. Bye Felicia 👋
But rescues with their adoption processes and standards are the problem hey? How DARE we have the audacity to ensure our rabbits never ever end up in a situation even close to this. Because the breeder that sold these rabbits sure didn’t ensure that!
Next time I see anyone slandering a rescue for having an adoption process or minimum standards for where their rabbits end up, I’m going to post these pictures in the comments. Every single time, the photos in my “Rabbit Abuse” album on my phone are going to make an appearance. Yes theres a whole album dedicated to the crap I see and attend. This incident is far from isolated.
I am TIRED of being called the problem. Its 2024, previous generations have never had free, easy access to information like we do today. It’s not hard nor expensive to provide a life worth living. Yet we somehow still manage to lower the bar even further past the previously perceived rock bottom.
If a rescue declines you or suggests improvements, take a moment to inwardly reflect on perhaps why they may have done that before clapping back that the rescue is wrong and whatever vile insult you can come up with. Is it because you need to do some more research on what rabbit ownership is ACTUALLY like as it doesn’t align with your perception from cute Reels and TikToks? Is it because you have a store bought hutch which doesn’t meet the standards for space and won’t protect against a motivated predator? Is it because what you have described wanting is actually a dog?
We aren’t the problem in the equation.
Crap like this is.
And I won’t apologise for doing my utmost to ensure my rabbits absolutely never experience stuff like this.
I’m at my wits end.
Goodnight to everyone; except people who keep their rabbits in these conditions. Peace out ✌️
