Biotin! I would never be without this for any horses that suffer from any hoof problems!
My own horse had a pretty bad accident where he was very body sore, due to that he was wearing his hind heels far to low,my first step was to get a good body worker, I highly recommend Nash from animal muscle release therapy in cambridge! She's the only one I've seen major improvements with, then I started him on biotin and for the last 5 months he's grown back his heels. Even while being in work, jumping, and trekking. He still has some growth to grow back but he's on the right track!

If you're horse needs biotin I will usually let you know and ask that you feed it every day. Here is the proof that it works.

Plump big digital cushion!
It's one of the many things we aim for when trimming a hoof,
It provides shock absorption during the landing of the hoof.
It also creates a barrier for the navicular bone and supports the deep digital flexor tendon as it stretches and contracts.

Unlike the hoof capsule, we can't trim the digital cushion to be this way. It needs to be developed by correct trimming, environment, and diet.

Hi just letting everyone know that I will be getting gst registered by end of November/start of December. I know there has already been a price increase for everyone, and having gst on top of that is very annoying. But it's what I have to do, due to my business growing so much. Can definitely pay with 💸 if it helps!

Hey everyone - my lovely mare is due to foal in 4 weeks time, so whenever she decides to do this I will be taking a day or two off work to make sure her and baby are all good and well. If this lands on any of you're trim dates, I will do my best to give you notice, and I will be rebooking you to another day. 🥰

Love this mare and noa has done such a great job with her. I will be posting updates of noa and her, while keeping her feet in check too! So exciting.

Hi all my wonderful clients, due to the price increase of tools and other running costs of my business I will be adding a $5 price increase on my trims. ($55) this will start from the 1st October.

There possibly might be another $5 increase after Christmas 🎄 depending on how everything is going.
Really sorry to have to do this, but with everything else going up I have no choice. You all will be sent another reminder about the increase when I message with you're next booking date and time.

Thanks.

Hoof flares, I come across alot of horses with hoof flaring, number of reasons this can happen...

1. Unbalanced hoof trims.

2. Metabolic issues.

3. Not getting the correct vitamins and minerals.

4. Injury higher up in the body.

What a flare does is it stretches the laminia of the hoof wall, it usually starts at the top of the hoof and can take a long time to correct (having to grow in a more healthy hoof with a tighter lamina connection.)

This is a great before and after on a hoof today, this horse is about half way through his rehab with me with the flares already growing out about half way down the hoof wall. I must take some photos of the hoof wall on the outside next time I trim him.

Some before and afters on a wee pony that has laminitis. 5 months progress on this boy! He is so much happier and getting around great with no flare-ups! Coming into spring time he will have to be kept off the grass and monitored. But so far so good. Love helping equines!

Hey everyone - some of you may know that I'm also a photographer! - being a Farrier has taken up so much of my time that, I really miss doing equine photoshoots! So I thought this would be a great opportunity for someone to win some magical photos of their equines, when I'm already at you're place having to trim there feet?! I think it's a perfect idea! 🥰 so here is a give-away! For 10 high resolution, edited images share this post and leave a comment tagging a friend and a photo of you're horse you would want photographed! This will be so perfect heading into spring time! 😍 I will pick a winner at the end of the month!

Information Saturday...

Did you know that abscesses can also form with a correct trim.... When the areas of excess wall/bar/frog is removed, the foot is able to function properly/circulation is reinstated, and bad pressure points have been removed. The body can recognise and start to heal damage, think of the abscess as dead tissue that’s being expelled by the body, (TOXINS!) you can start to think of abscesses as part of a healing process. I come across many new horses that I trim that after afew cycles they brew up an abcess, and it's usually nothing to worry about so long as we keep the foot clean and poultice when needed.

They can of course be caused by foreign body (something the body wants to get rid of like dirt and mud, which causes seedy toe)

Some Before and afters of a broodmare that is staying with us at the moment. This is about 3 trims progress. 4/5weeks every trim. This mare had shoes on that were basically destroying her poor little feet. Now with barefoot they are coming right, can see all the stress lines in her feet from the Before. And now they are gone., building the hoof naturally.

Bars - this is a huge topic, and some people won't agree with this method but here is how I see them...

The bars of a horse should follow the contour of the horses hoof, they should also join in with the heels and not be cut away, the bars support the back part of the hoof, enabling it to expand upon impact.

*Bent bars : distortion in the hoof.
*Straight bars : flat soles.
*Curved bars : concavity.

This hoof in the photo is slightly distorted on the inside, over time we will trim this hoof to be more symmetrical with the other half of the hoof, this is not going to happen in just one or two trims, to build concavity can sometimes take years depending on the hoof health, and past care of the hoof. (For example, years of being in Shoes!)
