Getawayback BorderCollies GetAwayBack Working Border Collies is a small kennel located in Otago, previously Southridge Kennels We have 6, soon to be 7 generations of this line.

All of our dogs are either trained or in training working dogs bred for working NZ terrain. We have spent 15 years ensuring a good correct working structure to ensure overall soundness and longevity, building and maintaining strong natural working instinct and a desire to work. Southridge/GetAwayBack dogs can be found in working and sport homes across the World with Titles/Champions/Grand Champion

s in - agility, obedience, working trial, tracking, rally-o, flygility, frisbee and herding as well as the unsung heroes who give their all on farms daily. We have the occasional litter usually once a year with pups available to working and sport homes. A vast amount of time is spent researching pedigrees looking for untestable conditions or those with unreliable indicators such as epilepsy, immune mediated conditions, HD, ED, OCD, renal and recurrent behavioural issues. As a result of this research we provide new owners with a written health guarantee. We export regularly to Australia for sport and work and occasionally further afield. Our pedigrees come from a number of different registries around the world - ISDS, NZSDTA, Dogs NZ, ANKC etc and all of our pups regardless of vocation are Dogs NZ registered. These are no kennelled or mistreated working dogs. They share our home and travel everywhere with us. Visitors are welcome but other than when we have pups, it will be at our convenience as rather than being a business, this is our home. We don’t spend a lot of time on social media so please don’t despair at lack of updates.

Fly is still contemplating coming in season. Like all good things there is no hurry.

We are still taking names for this AI litter. Sire is Cai Pritchards Welsh dog Madog Mot son of Aled Owens Int Sup and World trial champ Bob. These 2 will produce big engines and a want to work. I envisage they will make good solid hill country dogs with a lot of stamina but will be equally happy on smaller blocks. Some may be suited to trial.

Fly has an above average trainability, from the beginning of training it took just 50 minutes to put rough mob sides and a stop on her. The same for domestic training, she masters any behaviour in seconds.

Sporting homes will be considered where the handler is experienced with border collies and where an understanding of exercise appropriate for a working bred dog exists. In saying that Fly has one of the best off switches I have ever seen. She also has one of the best on switches 😉

Fly is MDD full panel clear, PennHip .36, elbows 0:0. Mot is clear on the Laboklin ISDS panel however is not hip scored.

Available for export to approved countries.

All enquiries are welcome.

I have been asked a few times recently what I mean by line researched in respect to breeding healthy sound dogs. I thought to myself, how many hours have you got to hear this, lets just condense it down in an easy to understand format. This is over and above standard essential breed specific testing.

There are databases by the number out there to help with this and sometimes you just have to pick up a phone and start making calls.

First thing to understand is that researching is NOT a guarantee but rather an assurance that the breeder has done all they can to minimise risk.

Information on dogs is only ever going to be as good as whats entered in databases and what breeders, owners etc are willing to impart. It is very unlikely that you will achieve full disclosure on every dog in the diagram.

Diagram is hypothetical litter sizes only.

What is ailing the breed is NOT what we can throw money at but rather what we can only throw time and attention to.

Well thats us for quite some time now. We will be spaying a couple of the girls in the coming months and moving forward with the breeding programme with just Tess, Tweed and hopefully Fly if she cuts mustard in the next 18 months. She is ticking many boxes at present, lovely structure, exceptional trainability and her first look at sheep showed a nice natural balance and a tendency towards thinking so we are hoping her future is bright.

Our next mating will be approximately June/July 2023, Tess to Dewi Jenkins Welsh Team Captain Jock ISDS 00/346553. Until then our time will be divided between starting Tweed and Fly and settling Tess into assisting us with that.

There will be the occasional update over time. If you wish to register interest in our 2023 litter, please feel free to message me. Pups will be smooth coated, strong eyed and quite intense. Suited to work, trial and sport homes only. As usual we are happy to export to Australia.
