Anyone in the property market looking for immediate income return?
This place has a fully self contained apartment ready to rent, plus a big shed with mezzanine floor and connected office and a productive market flower meadow with covered packing and sorting area!!

Is definitely a must see.

(It’s my parents property)

Unpopular opinion

Every dog should be muzzle trained from a pup.

Think of all those dogs uplifted and dropped into makeshift shelters after natural disasters, and how many of them where so distressed they had to be muzzled, for their and the staff safety,
Now think how much less horrible it would have been if those dogs had at least muzzle been accustomed to wearing a muzzle.

Muzzle training isn’t about punishing your dog, it’s about keeping them safe.

It your responsibility to ensure your dog doesn’t bite (anyone, or anything)
But sadly it’s your dog who pays the ultimate price if you don’t keep them safe.

Because life is just better with an obedient dog! Good dogs have more fun!

My purchase of a well bred purebred dog does not condemn another dog to death.
My purchase of a well bred purebred dog does not result in an uptick in the shelter dogs.
My desire to have a dog with predictable temperament from a healthy line does not result in another dog not getting adopted at the shelter.
My careful research on the most responsible breeders who meet all requirements is not the problem. It's not what you should be mad at.
It's not who you should blame.
I am not the one who irresponsibly brought these dogs into this world and left them in a shelter. Responsible breeders aren't the ones bringing these dogs to animal shelters either.
It's my home, my life and my choice what kind of dog I want to bring in. Maybe I need a working dog, sport dog, show dog or just a companion dog of a certain breed that suits me best.
Whatever reason I choose to support a reputable breeder, it will not send an animal protection dog to death.
A breeder who does health tests, temperament tests and titling of their dogs does not contribute to the number of stray dogs.
The number of stray dogs in the world is a problem, but it's not a problem made worse by reputable breeders or those who buy from them.
Your neighbor who gets a "purebred" dog without papers because they're cheap is contributing to the problem.
Your friend who spontaneously bought a puppy from Petland is contributing to the problem.
The person scrambling to pump out the hottest designer mix ASAP is contributing to the problem.
Your relatives who have to get their dog covered once, "so she can experience what it's like to be a mother" or because "she's such a good/cute/sweet girl" are contributing to the problem.
Your old school mate who bought a working dog with lots of energy without taking the time to research its needs and character who ultimately sees it doesn't fit his lifestyle is the problem.
A reputable breeder offers lifetime support. A serious breeder would never allow their dogs to end up in a shelter from the start.
It's understandable to be angry about the number of homeless dogs in the world, but if you look closer, you'll find that your anger is misplaced.

The prep that goes into a healthy, well bred litter is imense.
It’s way more, and requires far more planning and organising that I ever thought it would.
But when the meticulous planning starts to take shape, they excitement is palpable and the horrors and stress and sleepless nights of the last litter start to dull……

Not wanting to sully Zenas introduction I chose to do this post seperatly.

To the halfwhit contractor who was hired to do roof repairs, that thought a disabled elderly man living in a government housing community was going to be able to manage this dog, you should loose your job!!

You are a piece of scum!

Praying on the elderly, the lonely, and the impaired.

This dogs owners almost lost his home because of your greed! Now he is heart broken because he had to accept that he was unable to provide for his dog.

You should be ashamed of yourself!

So this has happened…. This is Zena.
I have just collected her from her elderly owner who was not able to provide even close to her daily requirements.

She is absolutely beautiful and I’ll soon be looking for a new home for her after we’ve ironed out a few crinkles……
and made sure she is healthy.

Our first challenge is that she is completely unsocialised….. I’m talking nothing outside the the tiny apartment and may 20sqm yard she’s lived in.

She was born In December 2022 so still just a pup and needs to know what it is to be loved and respected.

If you would like to meet Zena to see if she’s the right fit for your family or if you’d like to donate to Zenas journey please get in touch.

Such an easy way to alert others from a distance.
Take note people
Be aware of your dog
Be aware of others dogs.

Remember that NZ dogs law requires that you have you dog under control at all times, “under control” means even off leash, your dog can be called and will return immediately to you.
If you don’t have that control, your dog should not be off leash as it is not “under control”

If you see a dog with a YELLOW ribbon, bandana or similar on the leash or on the dog, this is a dog which needs some space. Please do not approach this dog or its people with your dog. They are indicating that their dog cannot be close to other dogs.

I’ve spoken with a couple of people this week, clients as well as strangers in the park who have asked about these things.

Don’t keep struggling.
If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always had.

Take the step, make the change you want to see in your dog.

Just a reminder of our 🔺TERRITORIAL BARKING & BEHAVIOURS WEBINAR TONIGHT AT 7PM🔺(all webinars are recorded for you to watch at your leisure or use as a reference).
If you’ve got a dog that barks at sounds, passers by or visitors. If you’ve got a dog that displays aggression towards people coming in to your home. Or perhaps your dog is intolerant of dogs passing by or coming in your house. Find out what drives these behaviours, how they can start and evolve and some solutions to reduce their rehearsal and prevent things escalating to an unbearable or unsafe point.

Who can tell me the difference between socialising and socialisation? Bonus points for those who know why its important.

What does socialising look like for you dog now and what socialisation skill did you teach your dog to get to where you are now?

29/04/2023

I haven’t posted in a while, but I feel I will definitely be back with some advice around the importance of proper and adequate for breed socialising…..

But in the mean time here is a really cool thing that o think is such a cool thing.

A long one but worth the watch.
A lot can be learnt from a mumma teaching her babies.
She’s is never mean, she is stern and fair, they are no longer being fed by her, and she is almost dry but they keep trying, this is the beginning of learning “no, means NO!”

They are learning
Manners
Respect
Personal space boundaries
And Self control, (just at a glance)

Never mean, firm and consistent, and inside 5 minutes they know what’s she’s saying. They will forget as soon as she leaves and she’ll come back and they’ll be excited and forget, but each time the time it takes to teach the lesson is shorter and soon they will stop asking and just enjoy each others company.

I hope everyone has got some boredom busters sorted….
Managing 5 rambunctious baby land sharks is a full time job!!
But nothing a Kmart ball pit won’t handle for a minute.
If you’ve forgotten or overlooked how impacted your pooch will be by this storm please take a minute to do a google search for quick home made boredom busters for your pooch, there are so so many and gaps made with simple everyday household stuff.

Something to consider while out and about with your pooch or pooches.
Don’t be afraid to tell someone your not comfortable with the way their dog is behaving, or that your dog is displaying signs of distress trying to evade your dog.
But also be conscious of your own dog…… don’t be that guy with “that” dog that every avoids……. always be in control.

If you can see a game getting a little too much, maybe there is a subtle change in body language, a little less play bow, a little more heckles….. be a responsible owner, put the leash back on and remove your dog from the situation.

Don’t let play go too far, intervene before your dog is not having a good time anymore.

Advocate for your dog.

A stack of bear cubs………

Who’s heard of E.N.S?

It’s short for Early Neurological Stimulation

This is something I’ve been doing with these little cubs since they were 4 days old.

And I think it’s having a great effect , they are so alert and content they all come rushing over every time they see me, waggy tails a squeaky barks!!
So much love!!

Hoping I’ll be able to fit in a couple of sessions next week, so if you’ve been waiting, get in touch and I’ll try fit you in.

I’ve copied these words from another page and am sharing because it’s well written and I wish more people would talk to vets or trainers BEFORE they choose a puppy.
———————————————————
So many true points made here. Get out in public and educate people. *********

Posted by a preservation breeder who is ALSO a Vet!! Here's the real deal, people:

Watching the Westminster coverage, I was struck by many things, but this remained the most prominent:
So many of these amazing breeds have critically low registrations. Just 600 Sussex Spaniels, to name one. Many of these are breeds that make amazing companion dogs, and the public knows nothing about them.
As a veterinarian, I average seeing about 3 "new puppies" per day (these can be existing or new clients, but new puppies to them), sometimes more, sometimes less. I would guess that about 3-4 of these each MONTH is a purebred dog. And maybe ONE is from a preservation breeder. The others are merle or off color "purebreds" or from mills.
The rest? Every sort of doodle you can imagine, or other mixes such as husky/gsd (no idea who is doing this, but please stop), pomsky, shipoo, havapoo, shichon, cavachon, the list goes on and on.
The sad part is that many of these owners are educated, smart people, who just truly don't know. They don't know about the amazing purebred dogs who would fit so much better in their home. They don't know that buying a purebred dog is buying predictability. They don't know about health testing or breed typical traits or breed typical health concerns. They know they want a puppy and they can go online and order one, and be fooled by photos and words. Some even say "when I got there I knew it was a mill, but I couldn't say no at that point."
We need to do better. We need to promote and educate and...go ahead and crucify me for this...breed more dogs. Stop vilifying breeders who actually breed. Because pretty soon, we are all going to be extinct and all that will be left is designer dogs.
When I can talk to someone BEFORE they get their puppy, I can make a difference. I can educate about breeds that may work for them, about health issues, and about finding the right breeder. But as the veterinarian, all I can do is sigh when I see yet another "cockadoodledont" on my schedule and educate after the fact about pet insurance and training and the things we can do to try to help that particular puppy.
I don't have the solution, but I do know that we have to do better.

(And sadly so many doodles. So many.)

————————————-

I am a preservation breeder, I take pride in my breed and show off my dog every chance I get, I have spent countless thousands of dollars on health testing and countless more on importing healthy semen from the states to be sure I am doing absolutely everything I can to help my breed be the healthiest it can possibly be.

Be the change you want to see in the world.

Understand why, this new puppy, is nothing like the puppy they met in the park 6 weeks ago….

If your unsure about breed or breed lines, get in touch with a trainer and talk about what your looking for.

It’s much easier to start the right way with the right dog.
