Introducing Michelle! Amber has left us and Michelle has taken her place, we are all so excited to have an experienced, local veterinarian to fill Ambers big boots.

Michelle qualified from Massey University in 1999. For the next 9 years, she worked in mixed animal practice between Tauranga and Kaitaia, she then had a stint working for MPI for a few years, before returning to companion animal practice in Kaitaia.
Michelle and her husband breed Hereford cattle and Wiltshire sheep and have recently started a small Charolais beef stud. She loves farming, horse riding, boating and game fishing. They share their farm with 6 working dogs, 3 horses, 2 cats, 8 chickens, 10 golden pheasants and Lexie their very spoilt foxie/chihuahua cross dog.
Michelle grew up Kerikeri and went to Kerikeri high school, her mum and family are all still living in Kerikeri and she is feeling excited and privileged to return home to be part of the team at Phoenix Vets. Michelle is looking forward to meeting you and your animal family at the clinic.
Welcome to Team Phoenix Michelle!

🐶🚨 Parvo Alert - Cases across Napier & Hastings!🚨🐶

Canine parvovirus, commonly called ‘Parvo’, is a highly infectious and often lethal disease that affects puppies and dogs. It effects their stomach and small intestine and symptoms can include; vomiting, diarrhoea (often with traces of blood), a lack of appetite, dehydration and rapid condition loss.

Parvo is extremely contagious and can survive in places like parks for YEARS.

We have been seeing an increased number of parvovirus cases in both our Hastings and Napier clinics. Please make sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date! 🐾💉

If you have a puppy, it’s recommended to avoid public spaces and dog parks until they've completed their vaccination series (usually by around 16 weeks with the 3rd or 4th shot).

🚨PARVO WARNING!🚨

Beach Vets has seen a few cases of Parvo lately and we are wanting to let our community know.

Please please please check your dogs vaccination records to check if they are up to date.
🚨 Older dogs that are not up to date however had vaccines as a puppy have also been affected
🚨 If you have a new puppy please ensure that they are fully vaccinated before being in any public place and interacting with other dogs that are not up to date with vaccines. If you have a new puppy and have an existing older dog, please make sure both animals are up to date.
Parvo vaccines ideally need to be done at 8 weeks, 12 weeks, 16 weeks, 1 year and then every 2-3 years for the rest of the dogs life.
If your dog is showing ANY of the following symptoms please call us.
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Lethargic
All owners with dogs presenting with any of these symptoms will be asked to stay in their cars with their dog until we have done a test.
Please share this with people you know that have dogs to spread awareness.

Thank you from the Team at Beach Vets 🩵

Earlier this week, Steph and Billie had the opportunity to head over to Dogwatch Sanctuary Trust for a special training session.

They provided valuable training on safe dog restraint techniques for veterinary visits and medical procedures. The focus was on making the experience as stress-free as possible for the dogs by offering the dog handling team some different tools and approaches.

By creating fear-free veterinary visits for the dogs, we're kickstarting their veterinary journey in a safe, trusting and positive way.

Big thanks to Dogwatch - and Doogie! - for welcoming us and allowing us to share our knowledge with their wonderful team.
We’re always looking for ways to improve the well-being of the dogs in our care!
