It’s a black canvas, rather than a blank canvas.

While this doesn’t look like much at the moment, in a few months time I intend to turn this former lawn into a thriving veggie garden that will produce for our family and for our products. 🍏

The black tarp is there to suppress weeds while I create the design for the area. Then, I’ll work section by section to remove the tarp (I will re-use this in other parts of the property, so it will not go into landfill) and create “no dig” beds with layers of natural materials (cardboard, mulch, wool, manure, compost, pea straw).

Building a “no dig” garden is suppose to keep the weeds at bay and be a less intensive process. It also means, I will be able to avoid using herbicides and pesticides in the garden.

Treat your furry best friend to an easy homemade Frozen Pupsicle using only 3 ingredients.

These treats are not just tasty, but packed with goodness too.

Here's what you'll need:

Thrive Dog Kitchen's Original Blend or Winter Blend
Plain yogurt (dog-friendly, of course!)
Edible rabbit ears (available at your pet supply store)
Instructions:

Welcome to Thrive Dog Kitchen, where we’re making it easy to feed fresh foods to dogs. As the proud founder of Thrive Dog Kitchen, I'm all about ensuring your dog lives their best life. My journey into canine nutrition began with a personal quest to improve Jessie’s health. I dove headfirst into studying canine nutrition, earning Canine Nutrition qualifications from the Companion Animal Sciences Institute and the Feed Real Institute ().

These credentials have empowered me to create products that truly benefit dogs as well as offer nutritional guidance to fellow dog parents. My goal is simple: to create whole food products that are easy & convenient to feed that will promote your dog's longevity and to educate and support dog parents about nutrition in a way that's easy to digest (pun intended!).

The Winter Blend, might be my most favourite supplement of our product range.

It’s a limited edition whole food supplement packed full of winter vegetables and fruit that is then mixed with a very special bone broth.

We formulated this recipe to include seasonal ingredients that are not in our other blends because of the importance of feeding a variety of foods to you your dog.

Feeding your dog a fresh food diet will not make them aggressive.

Rather, studies have shown that chewing raw meaty bones releases dopamine, which helps produce serotonin. This in turn helps regulate your dog’s mood, sleep and appetite.

Eating a fresh food diet that supports the gut microbiome has shown to lessen aggression and anxiety as 90% of serotonin is produced in the gut.

When there is a sudden onset of aggression a vet should examine the dog along with a list of possible of causes. A change in diet may be on the list, but for raw food to be the single culprit is unlikely.

If you’re worried that your dog may start chasing after your family cat let me ease that concern. While dog’s have a natural instinct to chase and capture prey, it doesn’t apply to fresh fed dogs as the dog is presented their meal the same way as kibble.

Because, even though vegetables and fruits are to compose a small portion of your dog’s diet, they are important for your dog’s overall health and well-being. In addition to providing fibre, fruits and vegetables provide nutrients, like polyphenols and flavonoids, that are not found in meat based foods.

Mushrooms have properties for both preventative and proactive care. They are known to support existing health conditions.

🤫Confession time.... ....when I was a kid I once tried my dog's kibble. 🤢Gross??? Yes! It was very gross and I get a bit squeamish even thinking about it now. Dear Jessie, Today you turn 10 years young. Happy birthday sweet girl!!! You are still full of energy, always up for a walk, ready to eat at any time, happy to hunt for a bone in the backyard, snuggle up on the couch or bed and the protector of your family even when it's not your job. I still remember the day you arrived into our family. Within 12 hours you gave me my first lesson in what it's like to be a dog guardian to a Chesapeake Bay Retriever. You have taught me so much about what it means to be a dog and a dog guardian. You have challenged me in so many ways through the years. Thank you for those challenges because if you were an "easy" dog I would not have learned how to respect you as dog. You have made me laugh, cry, frustrated, proud, happy and pretty much every feeling in between. You have me wrapped around your paw, probably all four paws. We are very lucky you are part of our family. We can only hope that we have many more years to spend with you. You make our family complete.
