Hey beautiful people and your precious pups, we are in urgent need of a foster home, or even better a forever home for this young boy, he is likely a sharpei × dobie, between 1 and 2 years old, very loving, his owners got him from the pound and have had him for about 4 months, he was good with their dog to start with but now that he is settling in is not doing very well with him.
His foster home must be well versed to handle him if they have another dog. The owners are not sure what he's like with cats or livestock but he is up to date with vaccinations, fixed and microchipped.
They have tried to work through it but they're not feeling safe and would like him out of the house sooner rather than later but they don't want to send him back to the pound❤ ease bear in mind that I have not met this dog but the owner sounds very genuine, they're really upset it's not working with their other dog.
If you think you could be an ideal foster home for him please get in touch asap❤🐾xx

**edited to add that he is in the north island and the family are willing to travel as they want the best for him❤🐾xx

Hello beautiful people and your precious pups.
A little introduction into who we are and what we do; we are New Zealand Dobermann Rescue, Rehabilitation and Rehoming. We take in and care for Dobermann and Dobermann crosses (some exceptions, we are suckers for the animals... but specialise in Dobermanns) we are a charitable organization that operates on a foster care basis. This means no dogs go to kennels or pounds, they go straight in to a foster home and are cared for and loved as they should be until they are ready for their forever homes. This can include anything from a short stay with a loving foster while their forever home is found or may be as extensive as vaccinations, surgeries, training, rehabilitation and anything the dobies in our care may need, as you all likely know the dobies can have an ailment of health and skin issues that can arise all of which do need to be treated for the dogs to live their best lives. This does mean that we rely a lot on donations and fundraising as it is not cheap even with amazing discounts from our incredible vets
We are still growing as a rescue and still getting our name out there but every success story helps show our wonderful hard work!
If you are able to donate anything, it is truly appreciated from contributions to vet bills to food these can be made to 12-3091-0177445-52

Please use the dogs name that you would like the donation to go to as the reference or put general if you are happy for the donation to go to our most urgent patient
If you are able to assist in food please get in touch for an address to send this to, it may need to be sent directly to a foster home.
Any bedding, coats, warmth, toys etc please also get in touch for an address to send these to. Most dogs when adopted do go with their blankie, some food, a familiar toy and if moving to a colder area a coat, also any medications they may be on and their documentation from their time with us, all of which cost money but assists so much in settling the dogs to their new homes

Any and all contributions are always appreciated and your positivity helps keep us in high spirits despite some of the awful circumstances the dogs can come from, thankyou always, we wouldn't be where we are today without you all❤

It has come time to find darling Freya her own forever home❤
She came to us in January this year with very little info about her other than that the owner had had her since she was 9wks old till surrendered her at 9yrs and was no good with dogs or cats.

She is 9yrs old turning 10 this year and very healthy❤She deserves her own forever home to live out the rest of her years❤
I have found Freya is good with other dogs although does prefer her own space being an older lady (her own bed, crate etc where other dogs are not allowed)❤ She is not good with cats.
Her perfect new home will have someone that is able to spend lots of time with her and take her for car rides, adventures (she loves going in the car, out for walks and has good leash manners)
Will have a couch/bed inside for her to sleep😴
Will not have cats and preferably no dogs because she deserves all the love and attention (but if the perfect home has another dog this is possible)
She is crate trained and can travel crated in the car too🚗🐾

Freya is very playful and very cuddly, she loves to ride in the car, prefers the front seat so she can ask for pets on the drive💕

She LOVES to play, she is still learning to play with toys but enjoys running around with them when playing🥰
She is a foodie depending what the food is... she knows what's good🍔😂

I could talk all day about this gorgeous girl, she is wonderful and truly deserves the best💖🌺💕xx

Please pm if you think you'd be able to provide her with the above❤xx

Please, please don't spend fortunes on untested dogs and 'designer' bred dogs. It encourages backyard breeders and is detrimental to the health of ALL future dogs!

Hey beautiful people and your precious pups, just want to raise a bit of awareness around the subject of backyard breeding/untested breeding to aim to avoid preventable/unnecessary heartache from losing our wonderful babies so young.

Please always do your research before buying a puppy no matter what breed (or rescue, research and be prepared!)!!

Are the parent dogs healthy? Ask to meet them.
Ask your breeders if the parents and/or pups have had an embark test or equivalent (a full DNA test) and a recent vet health check. This will tell you if the parents or pups are carriers or have one of the many conditions pur gorgeous breed can have. If the pup has them, I'm not saying don't get the pup, more a case of don't pay a fortune for the pup itself as you will likely be paying a lot in vet bills down the line and the money wluld be better spent there than initially getting the pup.

It is also good to be aware that reds and other dilute colored dogs (fawn, blue etc) are at a much higher risk of early hair loss and more prone to skin conditions as they age, if you're purchasing a red, your breeder should know and tell you how to go about handling it (more indoor time, less direct sunlight etc. than the black and tans which can in turn assist in preventing these from setting in earlier).

What are the puppies grandparents like? Do the parents have recessive genes that have been passed down to the puppy? All questions to ponder before purchasing.

Ask to see the puppies, see what environment they've grown up in. If people are charging $3,000+ for a puppy the puppies should be raised in a great environment. If not, it is pretty clear that the breeder is in it for money, we really do not want to endorse this!

Obviously all puppies need a home but in my personal opinion (Kimberly Williams) people should not be having to pay that sort of money for a dog that may cost a fortune in health bills and/or absolute heartbreak possibly just a few years down the line, most of which can be avoided/prevented (freaks of nature happen and that is unavoidable but consistent testing and bettering of the breed is the way forward) by doing your research and making sure the puppy you're getting comes from good heritage and has had a good upbringing for it's first 8-12 weeks (most breeders will not separate the puppies completely from their mum any younger than that).

I understand people don't want to go on a long waiting list for a healthy pup but please aim to not endorse the backyard breeders. Ask them to lower the price if the dogs have no testing, a poor upbringing or both.

If the breeder is not comfortable answering the above, or letting you meet the parent dogs and seeing where the puppy is raised are they good breeders? Do they truly care about their dogs? Is it really a good idea to get a puppy from them? Keeping in mind that if they sell all the puppies without testing for the asking price they will simply do it again. It is breeding for greed, not for need nor to better the breed. Please, please do not encourage this!

I hope this helps enlighten a bit and please feel free to ask any questions, raise any additional points or anything always here for our beautiful babies and thankyou for taking the time to read this❤🌺🐾xx

Welcoming the newest member to the NZ Dobie Rescue team... Queen Freya 👑💕

We were contacted by the Whanganui Pound regarding an elderly Dobie (9yrs old) asking if we could assist. How could we say no?!❤

We were informed she was surrendered early this year by her owner who had had her since she was just 9wks old. We were told she is aggressive to female dogs and can tolerate male dogs when she has put them in their place. She loves to chase cats and stock and the owner didn't provide any further info to the pound.

Travelled to Whanganui to meet the lovely lady that got in touch with us and collect Freya❤

She has truly made herself at home and we are so grateful to the Whanganui pound for getting in touch to give her the best retirement possible🥰🌺💕xx

Just as a reminder when your vet or Animates is trying to sell you high end grain free crap - don't buy it. Most of these brands are sold in NZ especially in bold a few are not but I will leave them all in for you.

Remember Dobermanns are already genetically prone to DCM so this will be the tipping point:
In July 2018, the FDA first alerted the public about an investigation that found a possible link between dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and dogs eating certain types of pet food.

Canine DCM is described as the disease of a dog’s heart muscle, can often result in congestive heart failure.
Breeds that are typically affected are large and giant breed dogs, according to the FDA. However, many of the cases of DCM reported to the FDA have included smaller breeds of dogs, suggesting a lack of a genetic connection.

In many cases, food linked to DCM was in dry form and grain free or contained ingredients including peas, lentils, potatoes, and sweet potatoes.
The following dog food brands were named the most in reported DCM cases, according to the FDA:

Acana: 67
Zignature: 64
Taste of the Wild: 53
4Health: 32
Earthborn Holistic: 32
Blue Buffalo: 31
Nature’s Domain: 29
Fromm: 24
Merrick: 16
California Natural: 15
Natural Balance: 15
Orijen: 12
Nature’s Variety: 11
NutriSource: 10
Nutro: 10
Rachael Ray Nutrish: 10

A statement released by the Director of General Medicine and Internal Medicine at Angell Animal Medical Center in Boston reads in part, If your pet is regularly consuming any of the diets implicated in this latest FDA release, or a limited ingredient or exotic ingredient diet in general, please contact your veterinarian to discuss a diet transition for your pet and to determine whether any medical screening is recommended.”

*me again with a bit more info as i have studied grain free/all dog foods extensively; the reason for this is that the ingredients (different for each brand) they use in place of the grain block taurine absorbtion which is crucial for heart health. To those with cats please be aware that cats don't produce their own taurine supply so they need to get it in their food which can't happen if they're being fed foods that block the taurine absorption to their hearts.*

Good to be aware❤xx

On 18 June one of our incredible team was contacted by a rescue organisation and asked if she could to help find a foster home for a little Dobie puppy who had been left in a box outside a Church in Henderson. She immediately phoned a friend who had previously owned Dobies and was hoping to get another one perfect foster for this little boy. Two days later we travelled to Auckland Animal Shelter to pick up a very undernourished Dobie puppy with rickets, bite marks and a dull lifeless coat with possible eye issues. This is Winston's story and this is him 3 months later total foster fail living with his doting human parents living the dream. Winston was one of the docked tailed dumped puppies. Thankfully we now have Dobermann Rescue up and running and we can save our Dobies and give them the loving homes they deserve if they end in sad abusive situations or dumped like Winston

Very helpful read, especially for me puppy owners❤🌺🐾xx

Very helpful read, especially for me puppy owners❤🌺🐾xx

When you get your 8 week old puppies, please keep these images in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

When you're letting your puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.
