REHOMED!

Deauville aka Kahu
2012 – Bay Gelding – 16.1hh
Standardbred Pacer
Sire: Love You
Dam: Donegal Flat

Kahu initially completed the Stable to Stirrup programme for retraining and rehoming off the track standardbreds as ridden horses back in 2021. In the programme the horses are trained for an average of 8 weeks, where they are taught arena work and are hacked out. We aim to expose the horses to as many different situations as possible.

Kahu has come back to us for rehoming through no fault of his own, and over the last few years he has been a farm hack.

Kahu is a lovely boy, good natured. He has done arena work but would be best suited as a happy hacker, trekker or station/farm hack. He is a big solid boy with a beautiful thick winter coat!

Stands quietly for mounting/dismounting, happily hacks out on a loose rein, either alone or in company and isn’t fazed by traffic. Happy to trot over poles and small jumps.

Easy to have around, good to handle, worm, float, and for the farrier.

Dental, farrier, and worming up to date.

Maddison John aka Stacey
2021 - Brown Mare - 16hh
Standardbred Pacer
Sire: Captain Crunch
Dam: Stacey John

Stacey has started the Stable to Stirrup programme for retraining and rehoming off the track standardbreds as ridden horses. In the programme the horses are trained for an average of 8 weeks, where they are taught arena work and are hacked out. We aim to expose the horses to as many different situations as possible.

Stacey is a young mare, rising 3. She would benefit from being given time to grow before continuing her ridden career. Stacey is available for rehoming to someone who has the time to put into her and is looking for a future project to bring on. Stacey has no brand but is microchipped and DNA verified as a standardbred.

Stacey has been started under saddle to get an idea of how she would transition as a ridden horse before rehoming and she is delightful to work with. She happily stands for mounting and has done some basic arena work in walk, and some small amounts of trot.

Stacey has gone on a road ride with company, is great with traffic and took it all in her stride. She happily walks on a loose rein and is also good to lead off another horse.

Easy to have around, easy to handle, worm, float, and for the farrier. Stacey is good with new surroundings, good with other horses and doesn’t mind dogs. She is very interested in new things.

All horses that are trained through the Stable to Stirrup programme are green and inexperienced and require a confident rider who can continue their education.

Farrier and worming up to date. Teeth are due to be done.

Rakero Major aka Major
2020 – Bay Gelding – 15.1hh
Standardbred Pacer
Sire – Art Major
Dam – Gotta Go Jet Away

Major has started the Stable to Stirrup programme for retraining and rehoming off the track standardbreds as ridden horses. In the programme the horses are trained for an average of 8 weeks, where they are taught arena work and are hacked out. We aim to expose the horses to as many different situations as possible.

Major is available now for rehoming and would be best suited to a hacking home for a confident, quiet rider who can continue his education under saddle. Major will continue to progress through the training programme at Stable to Stirrup and his price will increase with more training.

Major was very relaxed to start under saddle. Walk and trot achieved, has been hacked out alone and in company. When out in company Major likes to follow rather than lead and takes everything in his stride when hacking out alone.

Easy to have around, easy to handle, worm, float, and for the farrier. Major can be cautious of new surroundings but once he gets to know you and settles, he is fine.

All horses that are trained through the Stable to Stirrup programme are green and inexperienced and require a confident rider who can continue their education.

Teeth, farrier, and worming are all up to date.

Dam – Crown Defender

Bob has started the Stable to Stirrup programme for retraining and rehoming off the track standardbreds as ridden horses. In the programme the horses are trained for an average of 8 weeks, where they are taught arena work and are hacked out. We aim to expose the horses to as many different situations as possible.

Bob is available now for a confident rider who can continue his education under saddle. Bob will progress through the training programme at Stable to Stirrup and his price will increase with more training.

Bob is a level-headed horse who takes everything in his stride. Walk and trot achieved under saddle - he has a big forward trot!

Bob has been on road rides alone and in company and has done some arena work. He happily hacks out, likes to look at things and take his time, but is pretty laid back.

Bob would be suited to a hacking home, CTR, or farm work. He would make a great partner’s horse with some more mileage.

Easy to have around and good to handle, worm, and for the farrier. He floats well – when loading he can get a bit worried that his 16.2hh frame isn’t going to fit, but once on he is fine.

All horses that are trained through the Stable to Stirrup programme are green and inexperienced and require a confident rider who can continue their education.

Teeth, farrier, and worming are all up to date.

Nyra has recently started the Stable to Stirrup programme for retraining and rehoming off the track standardbreds as ridden horses. Nyra has had several rides under saddle and is available for rehoming now.

Nyra is a sweet horse, who loves being around people and having cuddles. She is a sensible horse that likes life in the slow lane but is happy to give things a go.

She would be best suited to a happy hacker home with a kind and confident rider, someone looking for their next project to bring on. Nyra will continue the STS programme and her price will increase with more training.

Walk and trot established under saddle, stands quietly for mounting/dismounting. She has been on hacks alone and in company, prefers to follow. Does like to look at things but isn’t spooky.

Storm has recently started the Stable to Stirrup programme for retraining and rehoming off the track standardbreds as ridden horses. He has had several rides under saddle and is available for rehoming now.

Storm is forward moving and would suit someone looking for a project who wants to get out and do different things.

Walk and trot established under saddle, stands quietly for mounting and dismounting. Has been on road rides in company and has done some arena work, has popped over a jump and shows promise. Storm can sometimes be a little fidgety and impatient, particularly when he is alone, but he is getting better with this every day. He will continue the STS programme and his price will increase with more training.

Super easy to have around and loves to be part of it all. He is good to handle, catch, float, and for the farrier. Teeth, worming and hoof trimming all up to date.

Standardbred Stable to Stirrup Charitable Trust:

Every year over 100 retired standardbred racehorses are taken in for training and rehoming by a group of volunteers in Canterbury. Horses need hay, rugs, pasture, as well as a farrier and veterinary care during this time.

Often horses have to undergo rehabilitation before they can enter into a retraining program. Hundreds of standardbred horses do not have a chance to be rehomed due to a lack of resources. It is a sad reality for these beautiful horses, but we are committed to change it.

In the future, we want to create a quality rehoming facility that more horses can be taken in, but today the most urgent need is to raise funds for primary horse care. Donate and give ex-racehorses a new life!

SRRCC Trust is established to rehabilitate and rehome retired standardbred racehorses, educate the public on ex-racehorse welfare, and raise funds for various groups of volunteers involved in rehoming standardbred racehorses.
