***Update: My farmer decided he couldn't say goodbye!

"Hi, I’m Sarge. I’m a 10-year-old huntaway – of the hairier variety - living with my farmer, in Omarama.
I also live with my best mate, Don, who you’ll find here.
I can come across “quite staunch” my farmer says, but he knows the truth – that I’m “a big softy underneath it all.” 🥰
It’s true. My farmer is a kind man. He knows me well. I’ve been here since I was a pup, and I’ve been his mainstay, you see.
I’ll nudge him for attention, and I LOVE a good pat, but I try to be cool and calm about it.
I’m an independent guy. Not the type that needs smothering. 😎
I like to be in your vicinity but I’m a man that’s happy chilling in my own space.
These days, I’ve been embracing a slower pace.
I still join my farmer each day, but I don’t do much.
He’ll let me run round behind a mob of sheep. Once I’ve got my barks out, phew, I’m ready to lay around and chill.
My favourite spot is at the back door, on the porch, warming in the sun. ☀
The other day, my farmer sat me down for a chat.
He worries about me, you see. The weather here is currently -10 and, even though Don and I have wool beds and lovely warm jackets, my farmer wants more for us.
He says I’m just a “big teddy bear” and he wants me to retire and discover the true luxuries of a PET home, in my golden years. 😍
I’m the type of guy, he says, that will become very strongly bonded to my human.
And, when it comes to the eight doggies I live with, I’m the natural leader of my pack.
I’d be happiest sharing my home with a female or living solo. I enjoy being top dog among the boys here. 👑
I’m a pretty low maintenance guy. A good walk each day, and a sunny spot to chillax in, and I’m set!
I’m happy enough cruising round my yard when I’m not working.
I currently live with three cats and I’m good with them, so it’s safe to say I’m fine with the felines. 😺
I haven’t met chickens yet, but my farmer thinks I may be inclined to chase my feathered friends.
He says I’d be best in a home with older dog savvy kids. I’m pretty good with children but I’m a big boy, so I might knock over the tiny ones. 👨👦👦
When strangers pull up at my farm, I’ll run over to the car, with my tail up high.
I just need to let them know they must introduce themselves first, before entering my home.
Once they get out of their car, my tail starts wagging, and they become a friend.
I enjoy swimming, which is great for my joints – maybe not in THESE temperatures though!
And, did I mention, I love my food?
You MUST be careful with me though. I don’t have an OFF switch, you see. I’ll just keep on eating and can easily get fat! 😋
It’s really a hard decision, for my farmer, to say goodbye to Don and I.
He will only let us go to the very BEST of homes. He appreciates us, loves and respects us for how hard we’ve worked over our lives.
He’d like to trial us, for a few weeks, to make sure you and I are the right fit.
Oh, and I must also mention, if you cannot decide which is more adorable, Don and I can go as a package. We’re good friends. 🥰
My farmer wanted me to let you know that I’m not neutered.
So, if you have a soft spot for a hairier oldie, that’s worked diligently through his life, and you’d like to make my golden years special, please send an email, introducing yourself, and describing the type of home you could offer me." [email protected]
