Even the smallest donation goes so far for a rescue 🩵 Auckland Cavy Care needs help so they can continue doing an amazing job taking in little critters in need, including chinchillas 🧡

We need help to enable us to carry on, I feel like I am failing on so many fronts.

I, Raylene, personally feel I have dropped the ball on fundraising and now we find ourselves with 24 cents left in our account. We have had a huge amount going on in our lives over the last 6 months that has taken a toll on my ability to fully focus on the rescue.
This is not an excuse but just the way it is.

This week alone, we have paid just over $1200 in vet costs, but we can not continue to do this. We know life is very hard out there, with the cost-of-living sky rocketing, as a family we are feeling too. I would normally just top things up but simply can not do that personally any longer.

We currently have 114 animals under the rescues care, either here or at foster homes. Sadly, we have had to say “no” more times over the last few months than you would believe, which is not something we like to do but our ability to help is limited by the support we get.
2 guineas we took in last week who we are pretty sure have ovarian issues going on, so they need to be spayed as soon as we can get them in next week. It seems every animal that comes in has something going on these days, I don’t know if it is the level of care they are getting is lacking or the back yard breeding but there is always something going on.

For us to continue to help we need your help now more than ever, every donation makes a difference. If everyone that follows our page even gave $2 we would be in such a different place.

Thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts, we want to keep doing what we do, but we can’t do it on our own.

I am working very hard to have all current orders out by Tuesday, but I am no longer able to 100% guarantee delivery before Christmas.
I am still hopeful 🤞 Overnight courier services will still be operating - so I will still be sending out orders all week - but their workload may affect their overnight service. I will certainly be doing my very best to get orders out in time to make the deadline 🥰

Our very own Premium Chinchilla Bathing Dust is BACK!! (And we won't run out of stock ever again!)

Last night was a very special night for our Little Hoo (Houdini). She has been living in a small, separated area of the main cage (ferret nation), with mum and dad below her. Unfortunately, Hoo got bumblefoot, so we had to make sure every little speck of her cage was 100% clean 100% of the time, to ensure a speedy recovery. Sadly, after she recovered, when we tried to open up the rest of the cage for her to reunite with her parents, Betty (mum) decided she didn't want her back and was extremely aggressive towards Hoo. We attempted re-bonding multiple times but came to the conclusion that she would be safer on her own. But she still has fun at play time with her dad, Boo. So Hoo finally has her very own cage, and after the initial confusion about where she was, she was much like a child in a candy shop. She got more and more braver throughout the night until she was whizzing around and clearly excited about her new stuff. She finally passed out at 9am this morning and is still asleep in her tunnel.

The Beginning...

I have had a passion for all animals for as long as I can remember. I longed for a cat so desperately, but we were a ‘dog’ family. As soon as I had the opportunity to overthrow the dog rules, I got Stanley, a big tabby who I adored. Sadly, one day he never came home, and it broke my heart. My passion for animals continued to grow, and I completed my Certificate in Veterinary Nursing, the foundation of my knowledge of animals. Animal behaviour fascinates me, and chinchillas are so unique and intelligent, so I have always been drawn into the fluffbutts.

I was fortunate to finally have the opportunity to become a chin mum, to Boo and Betty, which well and truly tipped the scale of pet versus human in our home. The cats weren’t impressed, to say the least.

Now we have Hoo (Houdini), who will celebrate her first birthday tomorrow. Unlike her mum, she is super friendly and loving, and doesn’t mind belly scritches and hugs, just like her dad. I can’t wait to see her taste her very first hawthorn berry and a pinch of bee pollen tomorrow.
