I was lucky enough to get the chance to start and bring on this guy, Thunder, at the end of the summer holidays. I don't often get time to ride him but every time I do he remembers what he's been learning and happily takes on new challenges. Yesterday he had his first outing in a show atmosphere at Abderry and also his first jump while there!
What a sane and willing pony he is!
He also had his first set of shoes on this week and was perfectly behaved.
He will be looking for a home at some stage as this is my last season on ponies.
3yo Northland bred. Around 14hh at the moment and definitely will stay pony
Honey coping with distractions and beginning to use her back a little better. She had found our place quite terrifying at first with calves in the stable right off the arena, Hugo the donkey who likes to throw his feed bin at her as she goes past, Buddy who tries to play chicken with the horse's front feet and then my brothers who pop out of nowhere now and then. She's feeling much more relaxed and is maintaining canter longer in our little arena which means she's having to also work on a circle most of the way
Honey having a a fun outing at the Abderry splash of colour show today
I'm very lucky to have been trusted with schooling the pretty "Honey" for the school holidays. She did very well in the blustery conditions to come in by herself and work next to the calves and donkey in stables which can make for scary noises.
My new project out for the first time at a show today thanks to the teachers striking. He was taken under the wing of Fly, who is on his spell so doing weird stuff with his tongue to keep him amused 🤷♀️ This guy is no fuss, no drama and trying so hard. 3yo by Thunder Down Under
Last dance with Ninja today at Woodhill Sands for the Anzac Derby. We won our round and had the fastest winning round of the day too. We never go too "fast" but this little man can do the best lines and angles to make his round very economical. Ninja has most probably sold to a wonderful new family and so this was a very special day. The course was amazing. So much work had gone into the planning, thank you Strides Equestrian and organisers for the beautiful fillers and variety.
Fly also won his class. He is also progressing nicely and the challenges of this course made him both think and enjoy his time.
Thank you so much Cheski Brown for your time and work to get Ninja and me so happy and successful together. The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary!
I went and gave lil Moss a bit of a tune up tonight. He's been going very well and his little rider has improved so much since I last saw her! But it's always good for these cheeky little guys to have their buttons and gears checked over while their little riders are learning how to drive them 💖
Fly getting the hang of this XC thing. Great lesson with Beth Wilson yesterday. We barely even noticed the rain
Ninja winning his Accumulator round today. Coolest pony ever. The turn to 1 to 2 seemed effortless for him yet was super tight. Joker fence no problem
Fly also won his accumulator round but my camera lady had her hands full so didn't catch him sailing over 1.15m joker fence like a stag
Mr Mr (Blue Breeze) first time in a show ring Pongarosa Equestrian Centre. Perfect relaxed atmosphere which set us up to have lots of fun together
Mr Mr had a spin in Lake Cutfield today
Michaela learnt about the joys of bareback riding and splashing around on horseback with her unicorn, Moss, too. Fly LOVES the water. He's been playing in the puddle in his paddock almost non stop
This is why we can't bring ourselves to sell Ninja. Hunter/Eventing pony one day, outboard motor the next. Cheers for the rain Auckland weather
Moss has sold to a great family. Today we took his new rider, Michaela, to the forrest on him. So cute to hear her chatting the whole way with excitement. She even had her first little canter on the beach! 🦄🥰
Shyla 60cm round in the rain tonight
Moss having a little whiz around 50cm tonight. So cute
When Shyla first came to us 5 or so weeks ago, she was quite the fire breathing diva. Today we tested her in a busy urban environment with no less than 65 children (no pic of kids for privacy) next to a busy road and shopping center AND an off leash dog park
Moss came too. Yes he coped absolutely fine , as expected
But Shyla was the star. Nothing fazed her at all
5 weeks ago I'd never have even contemplated it
Now she is in the pony club mode that was her desired job description
She's ready to start working with her own rider now and that's satisfying
With 3 schoolers to work and Mr's tendency to toss his shoes over the fence he hasn't been worked for a few weeks. Farrier has just been and it was cool to be able to get on and pick up where we left off with him walking on the buckle while his friend screams at him from the paddock (in pretty strong wind too!)
Shyla being a beginner's pony today and helping her rider win a games challenge
Shyla comparison between Week 1 and 4. She's feeling like a different horse (Don't mind me telling my camera lady to stop telling me what to do 🤣)
