DID YOU KNOW

➡️ Excess sugars can overload into the hind gut producing secondary lacitic acid. This is non absorbable acid and unable to be metabolised and begins accumulating in the animals hind gut digestive mass lowering pH, suppressing normal fermentation and unbalancing the hind gut environment.
➡️ Toxin produced by dying bacteria may reach the bloodstream and eventually cause circulation problems which affect the hoof structure.
➡ High bulk, poorly digested fibre in predominantly hay based diets may increase digestive stress on the hindgut. This can cause enlargement (‘hay belly’) and wall distention, causing contact with the right abdominal wall during exercise.
➡ Horses with duodenal ulcers might spend long periods lying down, propped up on the chest.
➡ Horses with colonic ulcers often lie on their left side to take weight off the right side colon area.

A FEW THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR
- Long periods lying down, propped up on the chest.
- Lying on left side to take weight off the right side colon area.
- Discomfort when rubbed or brushed around under flank belly area on the right side.
- ‘Girthy’ behaviour when pressed over rear of chest sternum area.

STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSES MOUTH
- If i have lost my appetite or am in pain, please call a vet for me.
- The NSAID medication prescribed for me may not be suitable for sensitive horses, so discuss alternative pain management with vet.
