Vetora Waikato Vetora Waikato is made up of 7 clinics: Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Hamilton, Otorohanga, Putaruru, Tokoroa and Whakamaru. What is Vetora? But what does "ora" mean?
(31)

For their individual hours and addresses, head to our website: https://www.vetora.co.nz/clinics Vetora Waikato covers a range of clinics: Cambridge, Hamilton, Otorohanga, Te Awamutu, and Putaruru. Well, we all know what "Vet" means. In Latin, "ora" means land. And in Te Reo, "ora" means health and well-being. So at its core, Vetora means "vets of the land" AND the "vet of health and well-being". And we're quite happy to be known as both!

🎶I brush my teeth, I brush my teeth, morning noon and night. I brush them, floss them, rinse them clean; I keep them nice and white.

I brush them once, I brush them twice; I brush them till they shine. I always brush them round and round; those precious teeth of mine.

A newborn calf is the most vulnerable animal on your farm, so to give them the best chance of good health early on, we recommend giving them a dose of Multimin at birth, and again at weaning.

The trace elements that Multimin contains are:
🐮 Copper,
🐮 Selenium,
🐮 Zinc and
🐮 Manganese for immune support.

In trials, farmers injected calves on the first day they arrived in the shed, which easily fitted into their daily routine. MULTIMIN is administered as a subcutaneous injection at 1 ml/50 kg in calves and has nil meat and milk withholding periods.

In July and August, we have 10% off Multimin.

On Tuesday 2 June, our Large Animal vets got together for their annual hui to share information on interesting cases, research and learnings they’ve had throughout the year.

This was held at our Te Awamutu Clinic and is always an entertaining time.

Every week (when they aren't competing in Agility Shows) Nikki, our Head Nurse in Hamilton and her mates Bowie and Ozzie visit a local rest home to offer support and comfort to the residents by way of Canine Pet Therapy. The residents love it and Bowie didn't need to be asked twice when he was invited to sit on the bed!

If you've got some super well trained pets, why not reach out to your local rest home and see if they would like some visitors? Rumour has it, there is miniature donkey or two making similar visits so if you don't have a dog, maybe you have another compact creature? 🫏

Have you checked your herd vaccination status lately?

With Spring calving approaching fast and cows now dry, it’s a good time to check your herd vaccination status and catch up on these if needed.

In the below article Christian Davies-Colley, BVSc, briefly outlines the options and rationalises for available herd vaccinations. Have a read then talk to your vet about what is best for your herd and farm, depending on your individual risks.

With Spring calving approaching fast and most cows now dry, it is a good time to check your herd vaccination status and catch up on these if needed.

Hi, I'm Zoe – a 1-year-old female tabby cat. I was abandoned at Vetora Te Awamutu along with my seven little kittens. I was a very good mama to them, and now that they’ve all grown up and found their own homes, it's my turn to find a forever family.

I absolutely love being around people and am generous with my smooches and cuddles. I'm happy to be picked up for a snuggle whenever you need one. My only quirk is that I can get a bit feisty around other cats, so I might do best as your one and only feline friend.

I've been spayed, started my vaccinations, had flea and worm treatments, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, and received a clean bill of health from my vet!

If you’d like to meet me, please contact Te Awamutu clinic. I’m living out back with my vet family and would love to find my forever home soon.

This Autumn, resident Vet Paula O’Brien unfortunately had to investigate why three R1 heifers were found dead on a grazing property within 48hrs of one another. The provisional diagnosis - Clostridial Enterotoxaemia

Read more in our latest article on why this highlights the importance of fully vaccinating calves and on affected farms, considering annual clostridial vaccination of heifers and the herd.

This autumn I was called out to a heifer grazing property where three R1 heifers had been found dead within the last 48 hours.

Meet Gary!

Gary was brought into the clinic as a stray cat that people in the neighbourhood were feeding because his owner left him behind when they moved.

He wasn’t desexed so we have sorted that out and he is ready to find his purrfect family.

We have aged Gary at approximately 2yrs. He is super affectionate, loves talking to us and wants to cuddle 24/7! Gary deserves to find a family that adores him as much as we do.

We have tested him for FIV & FeLV which are both negative and he’s in great health.

If you believe you can give Gary a wonderful home, please reach out to the Vetora Cambridge team for a meet-and-greet.

UPDATE!!! We have found a great home for this beautiful wee boy ❤️❤️

This gorgeous little boy was dropped off at our clinic with his mum and 6 siblings. They were fostered by some of our vets and have been hanging out with our team during the week. Fortunately, his siblings have all found homes, but this little boy is still searching! He is a gentle soul and loves a snuggle.

He is approximately 7 weeks old and has recently had his first vaccination, alongside vet check and flea/worm treatment.

His adoption fee is $100 to cover the above costs.

Please phone Hayley at Vetora Te Awamutu if you are interested or would like to meet him!

The temperature is dropping, and winter has us in its grasp. When we feel the cold, so do our family pets.

Our Te Awamutu Vet Michaela Walmsley (BVSc) has shared some top tips to help your pet get through the coldest season

1️⃣ A warm well-fitted coat, is not just a fashion accessory, it can help your pet stay snuggly, but be careful not to let them get too hot.

2️⃣ A warm bed, placed in a warm place, or with an extra blanket or layer for those cold nights. The bed should be elevated off cold, hard surfaces.

3️⃣ Keep up the exercise, it’s great for your pet’s enrichment, to keep them healthy and active which will help warm them up. Grab a toy or ball for some indoor play, or grab a coat and head out for a walk.

We have loved having Chloe as part of our Hamilton team and are excited to hopefully see her when she returns for placement as a Vet Nurse Student 👩‍🎓 Best of luck Chloe.

🐄 GATEWAY PLACEMENT 🐄

She has observed many operations and dental procedures, gaining a deeper understanding of the intricacies of the Vetora team's work.

Many thanks to the Vetora Waikato team for their kindness and support in providing this fantastic learning opportunity, which has led Chloe to decide to pursue a career in Veterinary Nursing.

Do you have room in your heart and home for this little gem? Pip is approx 12 weeks old and been fostered by one of our team in Te Awamutu. She needs a home where she can be loved and have plenty of attention. She is a quick learner and already knows a few tricks! She loves to run around and have fun but also enjoys a good snuggle on the couch. Great with other dogs. Pip is ready to settle down into a forever home with a new family. Please contact Jayme at our Te Awamutu Clinic 07 8720004.
