9 Lives Orphanage Animal rescue based in Manurewa, South Auckland. Please be aware that we are all volunteers, we do not get paid for the rescue work we do.

9 Lives Orphanage was founded in 2014 and is a registered non-profit cat and kitten rescue, run by a small team of passionate volunteers. Our aim is to help eradicate homeless cats and kittens by de-sexing and re-homing as many Auckland cats and kittens as we can. What first started the homes of 3 dedicated people, is now one of the largest rescues in Auckland and we are so proud. We all have full

time jobs, families, children and our own pets that we need to look after as well so please be patient and kind when messaging us.

Meet Dahlia

This cute little lady came to us with 3 siblings and are now ready to find their new home.
Dahlia was the first to warm up to people, though is shy of new people to start.
But once she gets to know you she will run around and play and rub up against your legs.
Food is her love language (she gets that from her foster mumma)

She is unsure of noisy kids but will be okay with older cat savvy ones.

Dahlia would like a home that understands she may take a moment to come out of her shell, but once she does she is a little sweetheart

Finally got a good Pic of Lady Bumble!! She has turned into such a super smooch, that she never sits still long enough to get a good photo. She is approx 8 months old. She is tiny. And when I say tiny, I mean she's probably no bigger than a 12 week old kitten. She wouldn't be suited in a home with small kids. She is still a bit skitty if something makes a loud noise. Xaden you handsome boy! Playful and adventurous, this sweet kitten is ready to find his forever family.

He’s friendly and confident then when he gets tired, he likes to look for a lap to sleep on and purrs to his heart's content.

Used to kids, other cats and dogs so would fit into any home easily. Approx 12 weeks old and located in Massey.

Meet Dijon

This cute little floofy man is getting ready to find his new home.

Dijon needs a quiet and patient home who is familar with handing a timid kitten.

He is a shy kind of guy who will hiss when approached but is all talk and will then let you pat him and pick him up for some loving .
He tries his best to be a brave boy!!

He loves to play with his siblings, and run around. But coming from the streets, he hasnt quite learnt to trust people as fast as his siblings have.

He would prefer a home without children.

Dijon would like a home that understands he may take a some time to come out of his shell as the world is a scary place.

This gorgeous dark tabby boy is Fresno and he is full of mischief and mayhem so would be a perfect fit for any family. Approx 10 weeks old, he loves to play, chase and climb and when he's done he will climb on your lap for a quick cuddle and nap. Did I mention that he absolutely adores his food so can happily be won over with little effort. Possibly shy on meeting new people but generally very outgoing once confident with his new surroundings and people.

Eden is just lounging around, waiting for someone to take her in their arms to a new home.
Eden is approximately 2 (possibly younger) and is extremely friendly and smoochy, and still enjoys playing with balls, toys and wands. She gets on fine with other cats and the foster's little dog. She just can't understand why no-one wants her. She will follow you around, give little chirrups and purrs and loves being patted and stroked.

Seko is still on the hunt for his furver family...

He has very recently arrived into our shelter. He is understandably confused and a bit unsure of himself as a result. Though he allows gentle head and body pats, and may even reward you with a purr.

This handsome, tuxedo-wearing boy is searching for the right human/s to cherish him endlessly.

He is curious and good-natured, as well as loves the outdoors and exploring. and enjoys soaking up the sun in the daytime. He will be your loyal playmate in the evenings, and will cuddle up by your side for a cozy nap.

Will be fine with older, cat-savvy kiddos. Not the biggest fan of other cats, so would prefer a home where he rules the roost... at least for now!

Seko needs a patient and understanding home, as moving can be pretty tough and scary for a kitty cat! He'd like somewhere nice and quiet to feel safe.

Raggedy Ann only wants your loving attention - just look at that face!
Approximately 2-3 years old, and with her litter of kittens having grown up now, she would love to be the sole cat in a home with owners who have lots of time to devote to stroking and loving her. She is very friendly and adores adults and cat-savvy children, she would just prefer to be the only cat of importance in your life. She rewards you with lovely chirps and purrs.

Beautiful Sabrina, affectionately called Sabby, has sacrificed everything to raise her babies on the street.

She came into our care painfully skinny with a dull coat and no energy - every ounce of her focus went into making sure that her babies were taken care of.

Now her babies are safe and independent, this little sweetheart deserves the very best home of her own, preferably one with snacks aplenty!

She rewards attention with massive headbutts, smooches and purrs and she’s relaxing into learning how to play now she has the leisure and equipment to do so.

Sweet little Bumble! We've been trying so hard to get a good pic of her, but she's too smoochy!! For those who havnt met Bumble yet, she came to us a few weeks ago with 1 newborn kitten who she wanted nothing to do with. We got her in for an urgent ultrasound to check she didn't have anymore kittens as it's unusual for cats to just have 1. Given the all clear, we booked her in for desex. She was petrified of everyone and everything. Now, she's little love bug! She deserves a wonderful home. She likes other cats. Wouldn't be suited for small children. She is probably no more than 8 months old. Located Manurewa.

Update on Bumble. She is like a totally different cat! Well, for 5 minutes anyway 🤣 Gave her a squeezy treat and then I could hear her calling from the other room. Went back in and she's turned into a smooch!! We are back to growling today but with squeezy treat magic, we get purrs and pats eventually. She is going to be such a smoochy cat by the time she is ready for her new home! #Bumble #adoptdontshop #9livesorphanage

Last week, we got asked to take these two gorgeous babies who were left at a vet clinic up in Warkworth. As you can see, there is something not quite right. They both have Cerebellar Hypoplasia, which is a condition where the brain has failed to develop properly. Usually caused by a virus being passed on when the mum was pregnant. We will keep you up to date with their progress, but cats with this condition can live long and happy lives. We have our fingers crossed that their tremors will lessen over time as they adapt and learn. They will need to be indoor cats for their safety. We won't be taking expressions of interest at this stage. Please desex your pets!!

Our Story

9 Lives Orphanage was founded in 2014 and is a registered non-profit cat and kitten rescue, run by a small team of passionate volunteers. Our aim is to help eradicate homeless cats and kittens by de-sexing and re-homing as many Auckland cats and kittens as we can! A small community effort that first started in our homes has now expanded to an almost completed new cattery which we continuously need volunteers to help us clean and tidy, and of course, spend time petting the shelter cats.
