Dog Poo - What makes sense to you?
Does it make sense to you that a biodegradable dog poo should be bagged in plastic and sent to the landfill to sit there for a very long time? It doesn’t make sense to us either! We do appreciate that standing in dog poo is yuk and also the bacteria from dog faeces is a source of E-coli when it ends up in our waterways. Remember you can also be fined for not picking up your dog poo. We like the saying of “pack it in and pack it out”.
If you bury your dog poo in a trench at home in your backyard it will break down in the soil.
After the Canterbury earthquakes back in 2011, people told us one of their worst experiences was the smell of rotting dog poo in plastic when their rubbish wasn’t been collected. We thought their has to be a better way to handle poo that you pick up in the park when out and about. That’s when we found the biodegradable cornstarch doggie doo bags. We heard the World Animal Protection Agency were encouraging people to prepare dog disaster kits and we supported this and started offering packs (20 bags) of biodegradable doggy doo bags to go into this kit when at our local markets.
We’re constantly looking for ways to better handle our dog waste. If you have a great way of dealing with it, let us know.
