It has been one year since we relaunched LostPet and it has been great to see communities use the platform to continue to support each other when an animal is missing or found! LostPet (lostpet.co.nz) is a free service where you can create listings for both lost and found companion animals.

Here are some stats from the year:

👉Total lost listing is 9,397 in the last year (currently there are more than 1,000 animals marked as lost on the platform).
👉Total found listings of 16,190 in the last year (currently 322 found listings) .
👉Cats are 9x more likely to be listed as missing than dogs!

Some important points to remember:

👉All SPCA ‘found’ animals are listed on LostPet which makes up just under 15,000 animals in the last year - so if your animal is missing, be sure to check on Lostpet first and foremost!
👉You can list unmicrochipped animals, but from our data we know that the longer an animal is missing, the more likely they’ll make it home if they are microchipped.
👉You can list all species of companion too! We have everything from horses, to birds to turtles listed.
👉Only your contact phone number will be visible to others when posting, along with any information you choose to include in your listing text. You are able to 'preview' your listing prior to publishing so that you can ensure information is showing correctly and as you expect.

Thank you for being a part of the LostPet community! Together, we can keep making a difference for lost and found animals. Keep listing, sharing, and supporting – every effort brings a pet closer to home!

Our Story

LostPet.co.nz is the free mega portal for lost and found pets and pets for adoption in New Zealand used by SPCA and the public. List any lost or found pet for free at www.lostpet.co.nz and it will crosspost automatically to Neighbourly. Plus you’ll find lots of lots of advice to help with a lost (or found) pet. Previously known as Petsonthenet which merged into LostPet.co.nz on 21 November 2017, after 15 years of service and thousands of successful reunions and adoptions. Petsonthenet Founder, Kim Buchanan continues to run this page and write blogs for LostPet.co.nz. Our facebook community complements the website database but does not replace it. So it's really important that all lost and found and pets for adoption be listed at www.lostpet.co.nz. This page loves being a POSITIVE, HELPFUL and UPLIFTING community of pet lovers . We love to help pets and people :-) Mean or nasty comments are not acceptable, nor any post/comment which solicits or advertises any business, service or products without our permission. In other words, just keep it positive and sharing the love as you lovely people always do! Thanks and purrs ♥ Kim
