Our current state of play 😂 Van has died with 15 dogs wanting to go home for dinner after their pack walk. Sitting so quietly and patiently waiting for another van to arrive to take them all home. They are all doing really well as it’s been an hour so far…. At this rate, it looks like the DBB van will be out of action tomorrow. Update on my @doggybushbreak chickens that I hatched from eggs 🥚 🐣 All 16 are now seven weeks old and fit and healthy. I have a couple of roosters as to be expected so if anyone is looking for some heritage breed boys, let me know! They are really cute, Taffy just loves watching them and is quite attached to them. All living outside now and have the best life. Just need to set up their coop in the chicken paddock and they will be happy as! Two great packs to start the week with excellent listening skills. A good walk round the rocks with lots of swims. Sweet Lola has settled in beautifully and is starting to play with others. Septimus stayed attached to me today. As he’s not treat driven, I have to work hard to get him attached and focussed on me. Soooo….. an old snowboarding injury has produced this in my wrist. A ganglion which if left untreated will result in the tendon snapping ultimately losing the use of my thumb. Tomorrow I’m having an operation to get it sorted out. Having to go private as the accident happened in Japan. Doing the good old kiwi girl ‘she’ll be right’ attitude by doing it local to save a bit of money. 💰 Being opened up, the tendon shifted, ganglion ground down, everything aligned back again and stitched back up. What a drizzly day today 🌧️ No one really wanted to go out in this weather apart from gorgeous girl Bonnie who joined us round the rocks to our favourite spot. I misjudged the waves and got my boots soaked. 🤦🏼♀️ So it was a change of shoes when I picked up Echo for more socialising. They didn’t last long as I misjudged the waves again! Four little rascals ended up on the leash for a bit for not listening. But I did have a couple of comments about how well behaved they all were when passers by walked past. Firstly, I would like to thank the community in their overwhelming support I have received since I printed the truth about what happened to the kiwi I found in Omaha. The Department of Conservation have released a statement today confirming its injuries. As the owner and operator of Doggy Bush Break, it was a huge decision to put my name and business on the line to stand up to the lies being told in the Mahurangi Matters on the 28th August, especially when I knew the truth. I was very concerned about the repercussions I could receive so I sat on my dilemma for a few days after the article was printed. But I soon realised that I could not continue to let a lie be believed. What kind of person would I be if I didn’t defend the dogs I work with every day? I am very experienced in handling dogs and know all too well know the force, strength and pressure of a dog bite and the damage it can inflict on another animal or human. This kiwi was NEVER in a dog’s mouth. That I can attest to. No matter how Mahurangi Matters tries to spin the lies to save face, the truth has prevailed. The evidence proves it.
Comments I have received over the last couple of days from members of the public, clients and dog owners are that I need to follow this up and not let Mahurangi Matters get away with their lies. Your community is talking Mahurangi Matters, you claim to be a community paper so now is your time to listen. Your community are watching and waiting. You need to put things right in order to regain the credibility you’ve lost

Today was all about the wildlife. A sea lion pup 🦭 Oh so cute! 🥰 Some jellyfish 🪼 And an algae on the rocks which is super, super slippery. The coast is always changing and it’s always a different day with new adventures. The morning pack were not on their best behaviour until I gave them all a good talking to and then they were perfect little angels 😇 I picked up Echo for another socialisation session with the afternoon pack. He is a little nervous meeting the dogs, but today was a great improvement with no snarls or snaps. I would like to address the lies perpetrated by a lazy and incompetent reporter for the Mahurangi Matters on August 28th regarding the kiwi I found at Omaha on the 15th August. I talked with the Warkworth vet today who took care of the kiwi on the first night and he confirmed there were no injuries to the bird consistent with ANY animal attack. When I told the vet that the Mahurangi Matters were claiming a dog attacked it, his first words were; I don’t know where they’re getting that information from. There were no external injuries. The kiwi was paralysed, did have some feeling, but went downhill a couple of days after being found and it was decided it was in its best interest to euthanise it. The Auckland zoo did an x-ray and could not see a fracture. The vet told me the kiwi most likely had a deep spinal injury consistent with falling down a cliff. IT WAS NOT ATTACKED BY A DOG.
When the reporter contacted me to ask if she could use my photo to use for her article, I was happy to do so until she told me what the article was detailing. I told her she was wrong, that’s not correct, but she did not want to listen to me, the person who found the kiwi and someone who is very experienced in handling dogs. I examined the kiwi when I first found it to check for injuries as well. If you look at the photo I took, you can see that not one feather is out of place. Those who have seen a chicken that has been attacked by a dog know that feathers are everywhere, there are wet patches on the bird where it’s been in a dog’s mouth and it’s not a pretty sight. I refused to let the reporter use my photo if she was not going to print the truth.
If the reporter had done a proper investigation, contacting the vet who took care of it, the Department of Conversation who I handed the kiwi to, and the Auckland Zoo, she would have the facts. Instead, she chose to listen to ‘a source’ who obviously had no association with the kiwi and had no
