I am taking expressions of interest for an equine stomach endoscopy (gastroscope) day to be held on Tuesday 9th of July at my premises in Whakamarama. If there is enough interest in the event it will go ahead.

Randlab are generously providing their extra long scope so we can examine the stomach which is not something we can routinely do without the correct equipment.

Gastric ulcers in horses often go undiagnosed and can account for behavioural, performance and body condition issues.

Foaling time. Ensure you have a kit ready for the little ones arrival. Call me to discuss what you might need. Also a mare & foal vet exam post foaling helps ensure they are both doing well and we can check the foal IGg to ensure they have received adequate immunity if their immune system is challenged in the early days. Had to add in this cutie seen this morning.

What have we got here?
Well done guys this is an ultrasound picture of a mares uterus 15 days post breeding. The black approx 1.5cm circle is a pregnancy so happy owner !
We will scan her again at 28days to check for a heart beat and then approx 42days.

Please call me if your horse or pony has excessive tearing, a squinty eye or discharge from the eye. They may have something still in the eye e.g grass seed, sand. This can be very painful . When I stain the eye as below the damage to the cornea is more visible. The quicker the intervention the quicker the resolution

Head wound down to the bone back in November. Stitches, staples, antibiotics, Tetanus antitoxin and some anti-inflammatories.
Last picture is now. Head wounds can heal very well thanks to a great blood supply. Wounds with exposed bone can lead to sequestrum(dead bone) formation if not treated appropriately. Think we lined up the blaze quite well!

Some nasty photos so don’t look if your sqeamish. Oops this pony went around the gate post too fast and caught its shoulder. But how quickly body wounds heel on ponies. Last photo is approx day 15. Night time call out muscles were sutured, a drain was placed and the skin stapled together.
